Burial will be in the Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Rhyne was born in Carbon, Eastland County, and had lived in Dumas almost 50 years. He served in the Army during World War II. He retired in 1982 as a supervisor for Phillips Petroleum. He was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church. He married Gladys Marie Stacy in 1943 at Carbon. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Darlene Rhyne of Dumas; a son, Zandie Rhyne of Dumas; a brother, Dale Rhyne of Borger; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters. Mr. Stevens was born in Fort Worth and had lived in Shamrock for eight years. He was an electronics technician and a member of First Christian Church. Amarillo Sunday News-Globe May 21, 2000 Homer Wylie Tucker MEMPHIS - Homer Wylie Tucker, 80, died Thursday, May 18, 2000. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Neely Landrum officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery by Memphis Funeral Home. Mr. Tucker was born in Clarendon and had lived in Memphis since 1940. He served in the Pacific Theater with the Navy during World War II and afterward was a partner in the Chevrolet car business with Tomie Potts. He also was involved with the building of Deville Motel at Memphis in 1970. He lived in Austin while employed by the Texas Industrial Commission and returned to Memphis in 1980. Mr. Tucker served as mayor of Memphis for four terms and was past president of the Memphis Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club and the Lions Club. He had been a member of the Memphis School Board and the First Methodist Church, where he also had served as steward. He was a Mason and a member of the Khiva Shrine Temple. He married Tomie Ruth Potts. She died in 1972. He also was preceded in death by a son, Tomie Michael Tucker, in 1976. He married Joyce Read in 1972 at Austin. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lucheryl Tucker Speed of Memphis; a stepdaughter, Connie Childress Lingamfelter of League City; a sister, Louise Carter of Bloomington, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Walls was born in Shamrock and moved to Pampa in 1929. During World War II, she worked as a welder. She had worked at Woodrow Wilson School and was a bookkeeper for Walls Weed Control. She was a homemaker and member of the Central Baptist Church and the Rebekah Lodge. She married Orval Walls in 1932. He died in 1985. She also was preceded in death by a son, Freddie Samuel Walls, in 1933. She had lived in Hansford County and Gruver for 71 years, moving from Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and a member of the Community Bible Church. She married Price Miller in 1929 at Comanche, Okla. He died in 1989. Survivors include four nephews, Fred Miller of Gruver, J.C. Mrs. Brock was born in Indian territory. She moved to Floyd County at an early age and attended Sand Hills Schools. In 1954, she moved to the Plainview area, where she worked as a cook at Nichols Hospital and at Methodist Hospital. She was a member of the Garland Street Church of Christ. She married Thomas E. Brock in 1925 at Floyd County. He died in 1977. She also was preceded in death by a son, John Henry Brock. Burial will be in Newport by Lunn Colonial Funeral Home of Wichita Falls. Mr. Godgion was born in Trickham. He was a sheetmetal worker and owned an air conditioning company. During World War II, he served with the Navy. Until 1963, he lived in Lawton, Okla., serving in Tipton, Okla., as Dean of Boys and Director of the Chorus at the Tipton Children's Home. In 1969, he moved to Wichita Falls, where he served as an elder at Faith Village Church of Christ. He moved to Plainview in 1996. He married Mary Elmore in 1929 at Ryan, Okla. Survivors include his wife, Mary Godgion; a daughter, Beverly McDonald of Hale Center; a son, Max Godgion of Manassas, Va.; two sisters, Myrtle Faye Ratliff of Bowie and Jewel Dean Anderson of Gentry, Ark.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Crain was born in Matador. She received a degree in home economics from West Texas State College at Canyon. She taught in Childress County schools. After her marriage to J. Cristler Crain and living in Dalhart for two years, they moved south of Canyon, where they farmed and ranched. Her husband died in 1996. Mrs. Crain was a member of First Baptist Church in Canyon, where she taught Sunday school, served as church librarian, and was director of Media Services. She was a member of Pleasant View Home Demonstration Club, American Association of University Women, and the Woman's Missionary Union. In 1995, the Palo Duro Soil and Water Conservation District named her Randall County Conservation Homemaker of the year. Active in the Genealogical Society, she was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. Amarillo Sunday News-Globe May 21, 2000 Amarillo Bill Cox Bill Cox, 73, of Amarillo, died Friday, May 19, 2000, in Houston. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Paramount Baptist Church with Dr. Gil Lain, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Cox was born in Plainview and grew up in Amarillo. He worked as a school columnist before dropping out of high school at age 16 to take a job as a Times reporter. After the Times publishers bought the Globe and News, he worked on the combined papers before becoming news director for several Amarillo radio stations and editor of an Amarillo weekly, the Citizen. He also worked on the News-Herald in Borger and on papers in Odessa and Lamesa. He was managing editor of The West Texas Register, official publication of the Catholic diocese of Amarillo. Mr. Cox returned to the Globe-News editorial staff in the mid 1970s and became city editor in 1981. He also wrote a regular column. He retired in 1991 and devoted himself to the free-lance career he had begun in the 1960s. He wrote for a variety of trade publications before selling his first book, "Born Bad," a paperback original published in 1996. He eventually wrote four true-crime books. During his newspaper career, Mr. Cox won awards from the Associated Press Managing Editors Association, the Texas United Press International Editors Association and the National Catholic Press. He also was honored by the State Bar Association of Texas, the Texas Panhandle Mental Health Association and the Amarillo Police Department. Mr. Cox was inducted into the Panhandle Press Hall of Fame in 1998. Survivors include his wife, Nina; two sons, Mike Cox of Austin and Jerry Laney of Colbert, Okla.; three daughters, Raquel Garrett of Amarillo, Colleen Smith of Bethany, Okla., and Judy Bybee of Port Lavaca; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-greatgrandchild. Mrs. Hampton was born in Arapahoe, Okla. She lived in Amarillo in the early 1960s and operated the Morning Sun Laundry. She later worked as a real estate agent for Century 21. She moved to Howardwick in the early 1980s and served as a city councilwoman. She married Norman Hampton in 1954 at Roswell, N.M. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Stewart. Mr. Quintana was born in Tucumcari, N.M., and had lived in Amarillo for the past 18 years. He worked for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway and was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 730 in Canyon. Mr. Quintana married Sara in 1969 at Canyon. Mrs. Chandler was born in Wichita Falls and was longtime resident of Amarillo. She was a jewelry store clerk. She married Arlo Chandler in 1939 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1999. Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Vasquez of Canyon; a son, Robert M. Chandler of Canyon; a sister, JoAnn Cain of Mansfield; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Anderson The Rev. A.T. Anderson, 80, of Amarillo, died Thursday, May 18, 2000. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Pentecostal Church of God in Christ with Elder E.B. Demerson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery at Childress by WarfordWalker Mortuary Inc., 509 N. Hughes St. The Rev. Anderson was born in Ravenna and had lived in Amarillo for more than 40 years. He worked for Texas and Pacific Railroad and Burlington Northern Railroad. In 1965, he began pastoring at the Holy Sanctuary Church of God in Christ, where he remained for 15 years. He then pastored in Amarillo for the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, serving as junior pastor. From 1981 until 1989, he was at the Open Door Church of God in Christ. He served as treasurer of the United States Auxiliary Convention and was an officer for the Trustee Board Executive Committee Jurisdiction. He was chairman of Amarillo District No. 1, president of Borger District Evangelist, and the financial secretary of Amarillo District No. 2. Survivors include his wife, J.O. Wiley-Anderson; a daughter, Oreava Vadjl of Plainview; and a sister, Mrs. Eddie M. Laster of Wichita Falls. The family will be at 1300 N.W. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in McKneely Funeral Home at Amite, La., with Morgan Lasseigne officiating. Burial will be in Jim Lea Cemetery at Wilmer, La. Mrs. Frerichs was born in Clinton, Okla., and graduated from Brooks-Scanlon High School at Tangipahoa, La., and Southern Baptist Hospital Nursing School at New Orleans. A retired registered nurse, she had worked at Lallie Kemp Hospital in Independence, La., and other medical facilities in Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alfred Lea; and a daughter, Irma Lea. Survivors include her husband, Henry Frerichs; a daughter, Loretta Turner of Loranger, La.; three sons, Don L. Lea of Amite, Kenneth R. Lea of Kentwood, La., and Roger L. Lea of Irving; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
