Services will be at 3 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Max Browning, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mr. Sherman was born in Cisco and had lived in Plainview since 1929. He graduated from Plainview High School. He owned Sherman's Plainview Plumbing Co. from 1945 to 1990. He was past president of the Plainview Plumbers Association. He was a member of Plainview Noon Lion's Club and First United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and served on the Board of Stewards. He also was active with Girlstown USA. Mr. Sherman married Mary True in 1939 at Plainview. He was preceded in death by a son, Bill Elkins Sherman. Survivors include his wife; a son, Joe Sherman of Plainview; a sister, Charlsey Chisum of Plano; two granddaughters; and five grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Vista Care Family Hospice; First United Methodist Church; or the Parkinson's Foundation. BORGER - Thomas Wesley "Rusty" James, 81, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Sunray Cemetery at Sunray. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors. Mr. James was born in Tupelo, Okla., and had lived in Borger for 20 years. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a pipe fitter and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn James, in 1988. Survivors include two sons, Johnny L. James of Amarillo and Wenfred James of Burkburnett; and a grandchild. PAMPA - Margaret Rath Randall, 68, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Todd Dyess, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Randall was born in Florence, Kan., and had lived in Pampa since 1939. She worked for Furr's Cafeteria as head cashier for 21 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Lynn Dalrymple and LeAnn Marie Griffin, both of Pampa; two sons, Steven Ray Randall and Kelley Wayne Randall, both of Pampa; two sisters, Nancy Ann McAnally of Richland and Donna Lynn Bybee of Lubbock; a brother, George Richard Rath of Tulsa, Okla.; and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Callahan was born in Tioga and had lived in Borger for the past 45 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Callahan, in 1984. Survivors include a daughter, Doris Lee Callahan Sewell of Borger; two grandsons; and one great-grandson. PERRYTON - Ted J. Livingston, 64, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in Rowlett. Mr. Livingston was born in Guymon. He was reared in Keyes and graduated from Keyes High School in 1955. He married Peggy Sue Eyestone in 1956. He served in the Air Force and had worked for Southwestern Public Services Co. for 11 years. He married Kay French in Cuchara, Colo. In 1974 he moved to Perryton and retired from the Texas-New Mexico Power Co. in 1994. Mr. Livingston was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He married Martha Arenas in 1988 at Amarillo. Suzanne Simmons Grooms, a founder of the Amarillo College Suzuki string program, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in Columbia, Tenn. She was 55. Private graveside services in Llano Cemetery will precede a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday in Polk Street United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. All former Suzuki students are invited to bring their instruments to the service and join in playing the final Suzuki variations. Mrs. Grooms was born in New Orleans and grew up in Knoxville, Tenn. She earned a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Tennessee and a master's degree in string pedagogy from Southern Illinois University. In 1967, she was among the first American teachers to travel to Japan to study with Shinichi Suzuki, founder of the Suzuki method. Mrs. Grooms taught music at public schools in St. Louis and Nashville, Tenn. She also gave private lessons and taught in several institutions including a Suzuki Institute at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, Wis. She married Dr. Barton Grooms in 1972 and they moved to Amarillo. She played in the Amarillo Symphony and was co-founder of the Amarillo Youth Symphony. She served on the board of the Greater Southwest Music Festival. Mrs. Grooms was a member of Art Force, the Potter-Randall County Medical Alliance and Symphony Guild. She was a past member of the Junior League of Amarillo. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church, where she was in the Aldersgate class and sang in the choir. She was preceded in death by her husband; and by an infant son, Stephen Kendall Grooms. Survivors include two sons, David Barton Grooms of St. Louis and Michael Claude Grooms of Georgetown; her parents, Rachel and Claude Simmons of Amarillo; a brother, Dr. Stephen Simmons of Columbia; and her father-in-law, Dr. Jordan Grooms of Amarillo. Lillian Alma Cagle Tate, 81, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Caprock Christian Fellowship Church with the Rev. Max Beggs, pastor, and the Rev. Mrs. Tate was born in Foreman, Ark., and had lived in Amarillo since 1938. She retired from Potter County after 20 years. She was a member of the Senior Citizens, the Caprock Christian Fellowship and the Ladies Fellowship Group. She married Robert Marvin Cagle in 1938 at Amarillo. He died in 1964. She married Bill Tate in 1966 at Amarillo. He died in 1982. She also was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Cagle; and by a daughter, Joanne Hough. Survivors include four daughters, Sue Woolsey, Sharon Welch, Melissa Bible and Bonnie Bradshaw, all of Amarillo; two sons, Donnie Cagle of Lubbock and Dannie Cagle of Pampa; a sister, Jean Walton of Borger; three brothers, Ralph Henry of Indiahoma, Okla., Charles Henry of Fort Worth and J.A. Jones officiating. Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Mr. Thomas was born in Tioga Center, N.Y. He served in the Navy and also as a volunteer for a fire department in New Jersey. He moved to Clovis in 1988 from New Jersey. He was a farm manager and a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program in Clovis. He married Shirley Jean Farrington in 1952 at Owego, N.Y. She died in 1995. Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl Smith of Asbury, N.J., and Sharon Mazzocchi and Billie Swearingen, both of Clovis; a brother, George Thomas of Florida; six sisters, Beverly Vandevort, Grace Nau, Marie Walker, Ruth Harrison, Marian Clute and Patricia French, all of New York; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. CLOVIS, N.M. - Jesse A. May, 103, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Herbert Berstrom officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Mr. May was born in Nola, Miss. He moved to Clovis in 1924 and established May Brothers Jewelers, which he operated until retiring in 1962. He also farmed and ranched in Texas and New Mexico. He was active with the Gideons International and had served on the Clovis school board. He was a Rotarian and a member of the Central Baptist Church and the Clovis Masonic Lodge No. 40 AF&AM. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace May, in 1992. Survivors include two sons, Jesse May of Farmington and Charles May of Portales; two daughters, Jo Beth Pavia of Phoenix and Pat Sanderson of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Leslie May of Sontag, Miss.; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home. Mrs. Dixon was born in Guymon. She graduated from Guymon High School in 1941 and earned a degree in economics at McAlester College at St. Paul, Minn. She was a homemaker, a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church in Hough, Daughters of the American Revolution and ESA Sorority. She also attended Wednesday Morning Bible Study. She married Oral Dixon in 1946 at Liberal, Kan. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Nancy Childress of Guymon; a brother, Charles N. "Bud" Rainey of Amarillo; and three grandchildren. ERICK, Okla. - Roy Melvin Hiller, 60, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Texola Baptist Church at Texola with Charlie Floyd officiating. Burial will be in Erick Cemetery by Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home. Mr. Hiller was born in Erick. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Amarillo for 30 years. He attended Texola Baptist Church. He married Vernell Sanderson in 1959 at Shamrock. Survivors include his wife; a son, Tommy Hiller of Amarillo; two daughters. Tammy Ross of Owosso, Mich., and Sandy Leard of Amarillo; a sister, Faye Bagby of Lewisville; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. SHARON SPRINGS, Kan. - Nolan O. Maupin, 73, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. MDT Friday in Sharon Springs United Methodist Church with Paul McNall and Bob Winters, pastors, officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Springs Cemetery by Bateman Funeral Home. Mr. Maupin was born in Estelline, where he grew up and attended school. During World War II, he served in the Army for two years. He had lived and worked on several ranches in the Texas Panhandle, and in Mexico, Oklahoma and Kansas for 50 years. He retired and moved to Sharon Springs in 1993. Mr. Maupin married Pauline Herl in 1949 at Raton, N.M. He was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Maupin. Survivors include his wife; a son, Nolan Maupin of Spearman, Texas; a daughter, Paula Conradt of Keller, Texas; a brother, Pat Maupin of Hereford, Texas; two sisters, Sylvia Jackson of Henrietta, Texas and Linda Peters of Channing, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
