Kaltwasser FARWELL - Walter A. Kaltwasser, 81, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. CDT today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy McGuire, the Rev. Rick Sullivan, the Rev. Richard Laverty and the Rev. J.L. Bass, minister emeritus, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Terrace by SteedTodd Funeral Home in Clovis, N.M. Mr. Kaltwasser was born in Lockett. He had lived in Farwell and Parmer County since 1932. During World War II, he served in the 8th Army Air Corps. He was a farmer and served as mayor of Farwell for nine years. He also served on the boards of Wayland Baptist University and Farwell schools. He directed the Farm Bureau and was a member of Texas Christian University Alumni Association and First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school. Mr. Kaltwasser married Gladys Grover in 1944 in London. Survivors include his wife; a son, Kevin John Kaltwasser of Farwell; two daughters, Patricia Anne Kaltwasser Madison of Arlington and Vicky Lynn Kaltwasser Lynn of Texico, N.M.; two brothers, Gilbert Kaltwasser of Farwell and Aurelius Kaltwasser of Fort Wayne, Ind.; six grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Brady was born in St. Louis. She lived in Perryton until 1992, when she moved to Amarillo. She was a nurse. She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Brady, in 1966. Mr. Powers was born in Williamsburg, Ky. He served in the European Theater during World War II. He worked as a farmer and later as a farm laborer, retiring in 1978. Survivors include his wife, Millie Powers; three daughters, Peggy Stewart of Wellington, Jeanie Stubbs of Dallas and Norma Saxon of Willow, Okla.; one son, Wayne Powers of New Mexico; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Darrell Trout and the Rev. D.C. Lindley officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Garden at Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Winkle was born in Waurika, Okla. She had been a resident of Borger since 1949. She worked at Phillips Petroleum from 1977 to 1999. Mrs. Winkle was a member of the Jane Phillips Society and had served as president, vice president and treasurer for the chapter. She also served on the grand council as national treasurer and was elected National Jane of the Year in 1988. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church. She married O.L. Winkle in 1949 at Pampa. She was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Gene Winkle, in 1998. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Danny Winkle and David Winkle, both of Borger; a brother, Marcus Owen Fimple of Waco; a sister, Juanita Maude Fimple of Borger; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Ms. Cates was born in Pampa. She had lived in Plainview for 12 years, then in Lubbock for two years before moving to Pampa one month ago. She had worked as an advocate for Mental Health and Mental Retardation. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Torri Brook Cates, in 1978. She had lived in Gruver for 70 years, moving from Spearman. She was a businesswoman and homemaker, retiring in 1977. She married David Autra Ward in 1930 at Guymon, Okla. They owned and operated Ward Supply at Gruver from 1930 to 1977. He died in 1977. Mrs. Ward was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, a past member of the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Retirement Center Board of Directors and a member of the Lutheran Women. She was preceded in death by a son, Leslie Ward, in 1993. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Ward of Anchorage, Alaska, and Glen Ward of Gruver; a sister, Johanah Steffey of Apple Valley, Calif.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Scarbrough was born in Snyder. She lived in Quanah for many years and was a nurse at the hospital. She moved to Amarillo in 1974. She married Olney Scarbrough in 1925 at Quanah. He died in 1973. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Scarbrough in 1969 and Edward Scarbrough in 1999. Survivors include five sons, James H. Scarbrough of Amarillo, O.L. Scarbrough Jr. of Arlington, Elmer Scarbrough of Livingston, Bobby Scarbrough of Dallas and Bruce Scarbrough of Houston; 27 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church and a volunteer for Northwest Texas Healthcare System. She married Don Bryant in 1965 at Pampa. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Martin moved from Floydada to Amarillo in 1946. She retired from Amarillo Independent School District as a teacher. Mrs. Martin was past president of Kappa Kappa Sorority and past secretary of the Amarillo Art Club, the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association and the 45 Uppers Club. She was active in oil painting and bridge club. She was a retired member of the Retired Teacher Association and an inactive member of the Heritage Club of the First Baptist Church. She married Verlin L. Martin in 1981 at Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her first husband, E. Shelby Cook, in 1976. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Janice Davidson of Amarillo, Judy York of Longview and Verlayne Shugard of Garland; two sons, Michael Cook of Longview and Larry Martin of Arlington; 10 grandchildren; and 14 greatgrandchildren. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. McKeown was born in Janesville, Wis. He moved to Clovis in 1969 when he was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base. He served in the Air Force and was stationed in Japan, Korea, Germany, France, Thailand and Vietnam. He retired as Master Sargeant. Mr. McKeown was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3280 at Clovis and the American Legion Post No. 77 at Ute Lake in Logan. Survivors include two sons, Jonathan Hartley of South Carolina and Leo Larkin McKeown II of Clovis; three daughters, Denise Romero of Clovis, Debbie Apgar of Deatsville, Ala., and Dee Tarr of Mountainair, N.M.; a sister, Jeanette Richter of Wisconsin; and eight grandchildren.
