Winslett WELLINGTON - Jack M. Winslett, 71, died Monday, March 20, 2000. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. James McLeod, pastor, officiating. Cremation and other arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Winslett was born in Atlanta and graduated from high school there. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1945 and served 31/2 years in Guam. He then returned to Thornton, Colo., where he was a firefighter and paramedic for 15 years. He helped form the first underwater rescue team in the Denver area. In 1962 Mr. Winslett moved to Shamrock where he worked at Barth's Body Shop, managed Whitehouse Lumber Co. and was a long-haul trucker. He moved to Amarillo in 1985 to manage apartments and moved to Wellington in 1991. Mr. Winslett was a member of First Baptist Church and was junior vice commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post. He was preceded in death by a son, Danny Harrison, in 1996. Survivors include his wife, Betty Winslett of Wellington; two sons, Fred Winslett of Seattle and Skipper Harrison of Amarillo; two daughters, Karen Walker of Belton and Sandy Fowler of Amarillo; a sister, Laura Bailey of Roswell, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials be to Sean Delaney Scholarship Fund; Collingsworth General Hospital; or Wellington Cemetery Association. Amarillo Daily News, March 22, 2000 Virginia Crandall PLAINVIEW - Virginia Lorine Crandall, 83, died Saturday, March 18, 2000. Graveside memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Plainview Memorial Park with Don Robertson of College Heights Baptist Church officiating. Inurnment and arrangements are by Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mrs. Crandall was born in Erin, Tenn., and moved to Plainview in 1990. She was a dental assistant for 35 years in Fairfax, Va., and had been active in the Dental Association. She was a Baptist. She married Robert A. Crandall in 1944 at Henderson, Miss. He died in 1990. Survivors include three sisters-in-law, Ruby Nichols of Plainview, Mary Crandall of Vermont and Dorthy Crandall of Boston; two brothers-in-law, Paul Crandall of California and Walter Crandall of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. Amarillo Daily News, March 22, 2000 Ellis Mayberry DIMMITT - Ellis Mayberry, 73, died Monday, March 20, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fourth and Bedford Church of Christ with his son, Robert Mayberry, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home. Mr. Mayberry was born in Gonzales. He grew up in Hillsboro and graduated from Peabody High School in Hillsboro. He attended West Texas State College for 11/2 years and Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. He farmed in the Dimmitt area and worked at First State Bank of Dimmitt for 10 years. He started preaching at Seventh Street Church of Christ, and then pastored Northside Church of Christ in Levelland for 14 years and Weidel Church of Christ in Littlefield for 10 years. He retired in 1998. Mr. Mayberry married Centrie Allen in 1951 at Oklahoma City. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Zenitha Ann Rosales of Amarillo; four sons, James Mayberry and Herman Mayberry, both of Fort Worth, Robert Mayberry of Dallas and Thompson Mayberry of Canyon; four sisters, Georgie A. Mayberry of Dallas, Aquilla Dawson of Houston, Jesse Mae Ransom of Hillsboro and Marjorie Mayberry of Fort Worth; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, March 22, 2000 Billie Jean Ray HEREFORD - Billie Jean Ray, 72, died Monday, March 20, 2000. Services were at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Rix Funeral Directors Chapel with Elder Randy Dickson officiating. Burial of cremains will be scheduled later. Mrs. Ray was born in Grand Saline and attended school in Hereford and Amarillo. She returned to Hereford in June. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Belen, N.M. Her first marriage was to Verne E. Riggall. She later married William Ray who died in 1998. Survivors include a daughter, Katherine Hall of Veguita, N.M.; four sons, Verne Riggall of Venice, Fla., David Riggall of Belen, and Joseph Riggall and Billy Riggall, both of Hereford; a stepdaughter, Shella Ennis of El Paso; a stepson, Donnie Ray of Dallas; two sisters, Joyce Riddle of Hereford and Peggy Drummond of Thornton, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Paducah with Bill Gilluly officiating. Arrangements are by Seigler Funeral Home of Paducah. Mr. Goodgame was born in Paducah. In 1952 he graduated from Paducah High School then attended the University of Texas. He was a surveyor in the petroleum industry and a member of the Baptist Church. He married Sue Belcher in 1995 at Jackson Hole, Wyo. Survivors include his wife; a son, James A. "Buddy" Goodgame of Houston; two daughters, Beth Dennis of Ponca City, Okla., and Cynthia Nickson of Canyon; a brother, Tom Goodgame of Grapevine; four grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild. She was a member of the Rebekahs where she served as a nobel grand. In 1990 she moved to Petersburg and was a member of the Methodist Church. She married J.B. Williams in 1958 at Merkel. He died in 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Eva Martin of Petersburg; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home of Muleshoe. Mrs. Elliott was born in Elida, N.M., and moved to Muleshoe from Portales, N.M. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Muleshoe, Ladies Golf Association of the Muleshoe Country Club, High Plains Golf Association and the Muleshoe Eastern Star. She married Howard Elliott in 1937 at Lubbock. He died in 1978. Survivors include two daughters, Quineil Roark of Clovis and Roberta Braswell of Reading, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum with Brother Bob Parker, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery East by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Howard was born in Floydada and grew up in Panhandle. He graduated from Panhandle High School and the University of Texas at Arlington. He was in the Army three years before joining the Navy where he served in Vietnam. He served in the Navy 10 years. He drove a truck for more than 17 years. Survivors include three brothers, Bill Howard, Jim Howard and Everett Howard, all of Amarillo. The family will be at 4807 Farmers Lane and suggests memorials be to Alcoholics Anonymous. The body will not be available for viewing. Amarillo Daily News, March 22, 2000 Gloria Park Pyeatt Gloria Park Pyeatt, 70, of Lake Tanglewood, died Monday, March 20, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Lake Tanglewood Community Church with the Rev. Roger Hubbard officiating. Cremation will be by Memory Gardens Crematory with other arrangements by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Pyeatt was born in Fort Cobb, Okla., and lived in League City before moving to Amarillo in 1961. She retired in 1991 as office manager for GreinerMadison Insurance Agency. She was a member of Lake Tanglewood Community Church and Lake Tanglewood Golf Association. Mrs. Pyeatt was a member of the Lake Tanglewood board of directors. For the past 15 years she and her husband hosted a day of the annual muscular dystrophy summer camp. In 1983 she married Billy D. Pyeatt. Her first marriage was in 1961 to James Park who died in 1977. Survivors include her husband; a son, Don Atwood of League City; two stepsons, Keith Pyeatt of Vermont and Brady Park of Roswell, N.M.; three stepdaughters, Terry Evans of Homer, Alaska, Carol White of Amarillo and Elaine Miller of Missouri; a sister, Dorothy Ann Holsey of League City; and 11 grandchildren. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Humphrey was born in Sallisaw, Okla., and moved to Amarillo in 1952 from Delta County. In 1980 he retired after 17 years with Amarillo Iron Works. He was a registered member of the Cherokee Tribe at Tahlequah, Okla., and a Baptist. He married Clara Larkin in 1939 at Atlas. She died in 1989. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Frances Tomlinson and June Richardson, both of Amarillo, and Eula Smith of Bullard; a son, Robert M. Humphrey of Springdale, Ark.; two sisters, Ada Hubbard of Arlington and Lorraine Wyatt of Dallas; eight grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, March 22, 2000 Ira J. Young Ira J. Young, 76, of Amarillo, died Monday, March 20, 2000. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Claude Cemetery with Glen Walton, Church of Christ minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Young was born in Hollis, Okla., and moved to Amarillo in 1988 from Gould, Okla. In 1973 he retired as vice president of the Lubbock-Amarillo Armored Car Service. He was a volunteer for the Texas Department of Human Services where he received a 100-hour volunteer service plaque. He married Louise Gillenwater in 1942 at Wheeler. He was preceded in death by a son, Ira Wayne Young, in 1990. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Daphne Fox and Beverly Daniels, both of Amarillo, and "Kitten" Kotara of Lubbock; a son, Melvin Glen Young of Amarillo; two sisters, Leona Parker of Selma, Calif., and Zennia Gaines of Pampa; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be this morning in San Isidro Catholic Church with Patrick Duffy officiating. Burial will be at Gonzales Ranch by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mrs. Valdez was born at Gonzales Ranch and lived in Clovis since 1956. She was a homemaker and member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Brannan of Clovis; a brother, Joe Madrid of Leyba; and four granddaughters. Amarillo Daily News, March 22, 2000 Josephine Pippin CLOVIS, N.M. - Josephine "Jo" Pippin, 72, died Sunday, March 19, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Hiller officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories. Mrs. Pippin was born in Clovis. She graduated from Clovis High School in 1945 and attended Eastern New Mexico University. She was a homemaker and an Avon representative. She attended cooking schools and took Bible correspondence courses. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday school in the 1940s. Mrs. Pippin was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Pippin, in 1971. Survivors include a son, J. Rex Pippin of Kamuela, Hawaii; a daughter, Susan Osterberg of Clovis; two brothers, Rex Davis of Clovis and Jim Davis of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Hass Funeral Home of Clayton with J.A. Winfield of Vandervoort, Ark., officiating. Burial will be in the Kenton Cemetery in Kenton, Okla. Mrs. McLain graduated from Pascal High School in Fort Worth, Texas in 1944, later completing nursing school. She was a licensed vocational nurse. She lived in Boise City, Okla., before moving to Clayton in 1989. In 1999 she moved to Roanoke, Texas. She married Harold Milburn McLain in 1947 at Wickes, Ark. He died in 1996. Survivors include a son, Harold Wayne McLain of Abilene, Texas; a daughter, Melinda Sue "Susie" Thornton of Roanoke; two brothers, Jack Paslay of Arlington, Texas and Jay Paslay of Crowley, Texas; two sisters, Flora Jane Matthews of Rye, Texas and Elizabeth Malicote of Burleson, Texas; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
