He was director of The Meistersinger Chorus of Lubbock Christian University. He was minister of Music at Smithlawn Church of Christ in Lubbock. He was a resident of Amarillo and a member of the Amarillo South Church of Christ at the time he died. Mr. Cox married Sarah Bess Osborn in 1953 at Amarillo. Mrs. Bond was born in Thurber. She moved to Flomot with her family in a covered wagon in 1915. She served as postmistress. She was a member of the Flomot Baptist Church and was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She married Morris Gates in 1932. She married Clayton Bond in 1961 at Flomot. He died in 1997. Survivors include a son, Weldon Gates of Temecula, Calif.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Flomot Baptist Church. He married Nora Potter in 1949 at Borger. Amarillo Daily News, June 23, 2000 James Virgil Peeler MULESHOE - James Virgil "Jeff" Peeler, 88, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church. Mr. Peeler chose to donate his body to Texas Tech Medical Science Center in Lubbock. Mr. Peeler was born in Lamesa. He began his career in Littlefield in the ice department of Texas Utility Co., a predecessor of Southwestern Public Service Co. He later worked on the line crew and later served as a local manager in Silverton, Denver City and Dimmitt. He moved to Muleshoe in 1949 and retired in 1977 with SPS. He was president of the Muleshoe Lions Club, served on the Muleshoe school board and was past president of the Muleshoe Chamber of Commerce. He also volunteered for the March of Dimes, Boy Scouts, United Fund, Salvation Army and the American Red Cross. Mr. Peeler was a 50-year member of Muleshoe Masonic Lodge and was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Jewel Anita Glover in 1934 at Littlefield. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Rheata White of Muleshoe; a son, Buddy Peeler of Hereford; a brother, Paul "Mutt" Peeler of Overland Park, Kan.; three sisters, Dorothy Hilton of Lubbock, Mary Lou Fellows of Hammond, La., and Audrey Corn of Baird; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was a farmer and rancher. He moved to Quitaque in 1965, to Pampa in 1984 and to Tulia in 1999. He was a Catholic. He married Celia Salcido in 1946. She died in 1984. Mr. Maxwell was born in Gainesville. He attended school in Oklahoma and moved to Wellington in 1937 from Altus, Okla. During World War II, he served in the Army. He operated an auto and tractor repair shop and Jake's Cycle Shop. He was a farmer and a mechanic. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the First Baptist Church. He married Jane Carter in 1943 at Hollis, Okla. Mr. Forrester was preceded in death by his wife, Clema Bernice Forrester, in 1997; and by a daughter, Carolyn Sue Lemons, in 1980. Mr. Crites was born and raised in the Follett community. He attended schools in Follett and moved to Higgins in 1930. He retired in 1974, as a mechanic from Goettche Chevrolet in Higgins. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was deacon. He married Mary Ilene Brown in 1930 at Arnett, Okla. She died in 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Glenna J. Mrs. Parker was born in 1924 in Salem, Ill., and had lived in Beaver for 40 years. She was a nurse's aide and a member of the Baptist church. She had lived in Wynnewood, Okla., for the past two years. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Birt O. Speer, Lenville Sperling and Raymond Parker; and by a daughter, Sue Lynn Field. Mr. Veazey was born in Friona. He graduated from Friona High School in 1984, where he was active in athletics. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor's degree in telecommunications and in education. Mr. Veazey taught and coached at Littlefield Independent School District, at Midland Abel Junior High and at Whiteface Independent School District. He also had coached at Petersburg Independent School District. He was member of the Texas Coaches Association and the First Baptist Church of Petersburg. Mr. Veazey married Christine Jordan in 1992 at Lubbock. Survivors include his wife; a son, Colin Veazey of Petersburg; his mother, Joyce Veazey of Friona; a brother, Phillip Veazey of Clinton, Okla.; and two sisters, Pam Veazey of England and Myra Fithen of Amarillo.
