Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with Jeff Quinlan officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Bridges was born in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1930. He owned and operated Amarillo Meat Company, Cut-Rite Meat Co. and Bridges Market until his retirement in 1983. A Baptist, he was a 32nd degree Mason and served as Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge in Amarillo. He was a member of the Khiva Shrine. He married Lottie Mae Hillen in 1935 at Amarillo. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia Bridges Ahearn and Deborah Bridges Terry; and two sons, Richard Dean Bridges and David Lee Bridges. Survivors include two sons, Robert A. "Perch" Bridges of Canyon and Raymond Bridges of Amarillo; two daughters, Phyllis Bridges of Denton and Molly Bridges Phillips of Canyon; three sisters, Katherine Bridges and Clarine Bridges Hardman, both of Amarillo, and Joan Bridges Hudson of Arlington; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be from noon until 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be to any Masonic charity. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with Bill Gehm, pastor of Grace Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Hand was born and reared in Canyon. After working as warehouse manager at John Deere, he worked for R.J. Reynolds as a sales merchandiser. A veteran of the Army, he was a member of Southwest Baptist Church. He married Edith Clements in 1990 at Lake Tahoe, Nev. Survivors include his wife; a son, Billy Morin of Amarillo; six stepsons, Chris Crouch, Bret Crouch, David Morin and Pat Foster, all of Amarillo, Jay D. Crouch of Austin and Eddie Morin of Arlington; two daughters, Zelma Johnson of Amarillo and Paula Harrison of Plano; two brothers, George Hand of Amarillo and Junior Hand of Lubbock; four sisters, Frances McCuistion of Amarillo, Dorothy Adam of Kansas, Jean Raef of Pasadena and Diane Middleton of Colorado; and grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 23, 2000 Marian Bebe Nichols Marian Bebe Nichols, 90, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Nichols was born in Kansas City, Mo., and moved to Amarillo in 1915. After graduating from Amarillo High School in 1927, she worked as a legal secretary and served as secretary for the Rotary Club of Amarillo. She owned Nichols Stenographic Co., and was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and the St. Andrew's Altar Guild. Her husband, John H. Nichols Sr., died in 1984. Survivors include a son, John H. Nichols Jr. of Lake City, Colo.; a sister, Dorothy Allen of Fort Worth; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 23, 2000 New Mexico June Bennett LOGAN, N.M. - June Bennett, 82, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Logan First Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Kulback of the church and Cathie Rolf of White Oak, Texas, officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in Logan Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home in Tucumcari. Mrs. Bennett was born in Clarendon, Texas, and was a longtime resident of Quay County. She worked as a bookkeeper. Survivors include her husband, Ronald Bennett; three daughters, Betty Barber of Justin, Texas, Shirley Hoadley of Logan and Delane Morgan of Cookville, Texas; a son, Wayne Bennett of Aurora, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Additional viewing will be from noon until service time Tuesday at the church. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 23, 2000 Elsewhere Pauline Hopkins Castleberry LUFKIN - Anna Pauline Richardson Hopkins Castleberry, 91, a former resident of Amarillo, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Sparkman-Hillcrest at Dallas with the Rev. Woody Strodle officiating. Arrangements are by Gipson-Hunter-Metcalf Funeral Directors. Mrs. Castleberry was born in Medora, Ill., and moved to Dallas in 1916. After graduating from Oak Cliff High School in 1926, she attended Texas Christian University. She married R.H. "Hal" Hopkins Sr. in 1929. In Dallas, she was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Dallas Athletic Club and a charter member of Trippers Club and Cipango Club. After her husband died in 1954, she worked with Lorene Allison Interiors and managed the gift shop at the Grand Imperial Hotel in Silverton, Colo. In 1957, she married Archie Castleberry. While living in Amarillo, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Symphony Guild, Amarillo Garden Club, Amarillo Art Center, Amarillo Country Club, TCU Century Club and Chi Omega. In 1985, she moved to Lufkin, where she was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Her second husband died in 1988. Survivors include two sons, Robert H. Hopkins Jr. and E. Morten Hopkins, both of Dallas; a daughter, Nancy Reily of Lufkin; eight grandchildren; and 14 greatgrandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 23, 2000 Maurene Theisen KERMIT - Maurene Theisen, 85, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, in Midland. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Kermit Cemetery with the Rev. Beth Harrington officiating. Arrangements are by Cooper Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Theisen was born in Quanah and had lived in Kermit for 60 years. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. She married Oscar Theisen in 1937 at Arnett, Okla. He died in 1988. Her son, Donnie Theisen, died in 1949. Survivors include a son, Mark Theisen of Midland; and a sister, Mildred Stafford of Amarillo. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 23, 2000 Area John Delbert Stewart DALHART - John Delbert Stewart, 90, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Taylor, minister of Central United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home. Mr. Stewart was born in Texline and graduated from Texline High School. After attending Clarendon Junior College and Texas Tech University, he farmed and ranched in the Perico area until retiring in 1968. He later owned and operated a real estate business. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. In 1929, he married Myrtle Trimble at Raton, N.M. His daughter, Leota Pearl Stewart Lloyd, died in 1973. His son, Charles William Stewart, died in 1998. Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Dee Stewart of Dalhart and Marion Arthur "Artie" Stewart of Hurst; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. The family will be at 1416 Sandhurst and suggests memorials be to Memorial Park Perpetual Care Cemetery Fund. Jim O'Banion officiating. Burial will be in Heart Cemetery by Good Samaritan Funeral Service. Mrs. McQuitty was born in Ulysses, Kan., and had lived in Booker for 43 years. She was a homemaker. She married Herman McQuitty in 1951. He preceded her in death. Survivors include seven sons, Dwane McQuitty of Odessa, Dudley McQuitty of Follett, Douglas McQuitty, Dean McQuitty and Devin McQuitty, all of Booker, Don E. McQuitty of New London and Darin McQuitty of Perryton; three daughters, Diane Shawn of Follett, Delaine Kurth of Owasso, Okla., and Deryenda Overton of Booker; a brother of Jetmore, Kan.; a sister of Hugoton, Kan.; 30 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Royce Riggin, grandson and youth minister of Community Church in Hereford, and Dean Thornhill, grandson, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by CarmichaelWhatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Thornhill was born in Sedan, Kan., and lived in Pampa from 1945 until moving to Amarillo in 1998. A member of First Baptist Church in Pampa, she was a homemaker and member of Rebekah Lodge, where she served as past noble grand. She was a former volunteer of the Highland General Hospital Auxiliary. She married Harold Thomas Thornhill in 1925 at Sedan. Her son, Harold Eugene Thornhill, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Patricia Riggin of Amarillo and Betty Fletcher of Odessa; a son, DeArlene L. Thornhill of Tyler; a brother, Dale Brewster of Wichita, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 23, 2000 Henry Herman Grotegut GRUVER - Henry Herman Grotegut, 68, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in Spearman. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Spearman. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church with the Rev. Scott Raef officiating. Burial will follow in Gruver Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon, Okla. Mr. Grotegut was born in Diestedde, Germany, and moved to Umbarger in 1951. After serving with the Army from 1953-55, he became a United States citizen. In 1965, he moved to the Gruver area to farm. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He married Rosalie Frische in 1957 at Umbarger. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Clara Grotegut Thompson of Frisco; two sons, David Grotegut and Mike Grotegut, both of Gruver; a sister, Matilda Witte of Bruhl, Germany; a brother, Klause Grotegut of Diestedde; and seven grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 23, 2000 William A. Griffin Jr. BORGER - Dr. William A. "Bill" Griffin Jr., 52, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Church of Christ. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors. Dr. Griffin was born in Memphis, Tenn., and had lived in Borger for five years. He was a member of the Church of Christ, where he preached and taught Bible classes. He was a member of the Lions Club. He served as president of Frank Phillips College for 41/2 years. He married Debra Figgins in 1972 at Caruthersville, Mo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Luke Griffin of Chicago; a brother, Norwood James of West Memphis, Ark.; two sisters, Edna Grace Finch of North Little Rock, Ark., and Carolyn Stevens of Monette, Ark.; and a grandchild. John Wagoner, pastor, officiating and the Rev. David Carrington, pastor of United Pentecostal Church, assisting. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Elliott was born in Tucumcari, N.M., and had lived in Dumas since 1985. A former resident of Clayton, N.M., he was a rancher and retired as a manager for Safeway stores. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. His first wife, Vera Elliott, died in 1995. He married Ann Houlette in 1997. Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Robert Houlette of Dumas; two stepdaughters, Lawana Moore of Amarillo and Joyce Houlette of Houston; a sister, Essie Daugherty of Roseburg, Ore.; a brother, Rex Elliott of Sacramento, Calif.; five step-grandchildren; and 10 step-greatgrandchildren. The family will be at 401 Bradley Lane and suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.
