Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Edith Ford Cemetery with Mike Heatwole, former minister of the Canadian Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors in Pampa. Mr. Arnold was born in Lepanto, Ark. He lived in Canadian for about 20 years, then in Canute, Okla., for about 20 years before moving to Pampa two years ago. He worked in the oil fields most of his life, retiring from H&P Drilling Co. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Canute. He married Margaret Oliver in 1938 at Okemah, Okla. They later divorced. He married Elaine Harrell McCraw in 1961 at Canadian. Survivors include his wife; a son, Duane Arnold of Kerrville; a daughter, Annette Arnold Walser of Canadian; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Abraham Memorial Home, 803 Birch St., Canadian, TX 79014. Visitation in Canadian will be from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Stickley-Hill Funeral Home. PLAINVIEW - Roy Glen Cook, 67, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Bartley-Silva Memorial Chapel with the Rev. A.C. Hamilton officiating. Cremation has taken place. Mr. Cook was born in Vernon. He had lived in Plainview since 1955, moving from Stephenville. He was a paint contractor and flew radio controlled airplanes. He married Doris Johnson in 1967 at Juarez, Mexico. Survivors include his wife; a son, Brian Cook of Plainview; a daughter, Toya Presley of Italy; a brother, Morris Tom Cook of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. HOBBS, N.M. - Dennis Charles Owen, 51, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Gililland-Watson Funeral Home, Rose Chapel in Hereford with the Rev. Gerald T. Jenkins, pastor of First Christian Church of Hobbs, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery of Hereford. Mr. Owen was born in Hereford. He was a farmer and a member of the First Christian Church of Hobbs. Survivors include two brothers, David Owen of Ninilchik, Alaska, and Stanford Owen of Houston. Amarillo Daily News, Aug. 24, 2000 MULESHOE - Imogene Tiller Cole, 77, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Stacy Conner, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Cole was born in Alma, Ark. She had lived in Muleshoe since 1949, moving from Clovis, N.M. A registered nurse, she was school nurse at Muleshoe Independent School District and director of nurses for Green Hospital in Muleshoe. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She married Gordon Tiller in 1948 at Alma. He died in 1969. She married Homer Cole in 1984 at Muleshoe. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kay Swint Caraway of Muleshoe and Brenda Dirks of San Antonio; a sister, Maxine Parrish of Tulsa; a brother, Charles Tabor of Alma; and five grandchildren. He retired from Burlington-Northern Railroad after 55 years. Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Rice of Texline; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. DIMMITT - Andrew "Andy" Schumacher, 81, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Friday in Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Fern Couture, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Schumacher was born in Muenster. He served in the Army from 1944 to 1946. He was a self-employed custom farmer and a member of the Catholic church. He married Oleda Helman in 1940 at Hereford. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Charlotte Rentfro of Purcell, Okla., Yvonne Wilcox of Mineral Wells and Nan Davis of Tulia; two sons, Glenn Schumacher of Plainview and Randy Schumacher of Amarillo; two sisters, Marie Loerwald and Adeline Loerwald, both of Hereford; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Diabetes Association; or Hospice Cares, 213 W. Etter St., Dimmitt, TX 79027. PLAINVIEW - John F. Smith, 93, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Phillip Jones, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Smith was born and raised in Canton, where he attended school. He farmed in Canton until moving to Plainview in 1946, where he farmed until his retirement in 1971. He moved to Chandler and lived there until returning to Plainview in 1993. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He married Billie Irene Landrum in 1928 at Canton. She died in 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Rozlyn Cookston of Plainview; a son, Troy E. Smith of Chandler; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. PANHANDLE - Ira Elmer Padget, 93, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kathryn Boren, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Mintonƒ/ƒChatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Padget was born in a dugout in Oklahoma Territory and had lived in Panhandle since 1926. He earned his bachelors degree from West Texas State Teachers College, and taught chemistry. He also taught school in Petrolia, Anton and Panhandle, where he was the girls basketball coach. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1943. He was a weatherman. He had served as president of the Federal Land Bank in Panhandle since 1946, retiring in 1972. Mr. Padgett was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Lions Club. He married Nanette M. McGowen in 1936 at Anton. She preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by a son, David Lester Padget. Survivors include a brother, Oral Padget of California; and two sisters, Jessie Stephens of Amarillo and Velma Williams of California. TURKEY - Irene Wynn, 71, of Estelline, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin Clinton and Harvey Wellman officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Myers-Long Funeral Directors. Mrs. Wynn was born in Winnsboro. She was a homemaker. She married Doyle E. Wynn in 1947 at Amarillo. He worked for "Oilwell," a division of the United States Steel Corp., retiring in 1980. He was a Baptist. He married Mildred E. Martin in 1947 at Pampa. She died in 1987. He married Henrietta M. Heuston in 1988 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Rhonda J. Biard; two stepdaughters, Karen G. He was an Army Air Corps veteran, serving during World War II. He owned and operated Carter Construction. He moved to Amarillo several years ago. Survivors include two sons, Robert Carter and Lloyd Henry Carter, both of Amarillo; two daughters, Susan Rasor of Kilgore and Rosemary Harper of Ranger; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Tom Black officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Dennison was born in Danville, Ark. She moved to Amarillo in 1945. She graduated from high school in Denver and earned a bachelor of arts degree from West Texas State University. She taught high school in Del Rio. She volunteered at the Amarillo Nursing Center, was a homemaker and a member of the Summitt Baptist Church. She married Brax Dennison in 1970 at Amarillo. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Susan Carol Patterson of Little Rock, Ark., Judy Kay Patterson-King of Savannah, Tenn., and Barbara Dennison of Coleman; three sons, Robert Earl Patterson of Little Rock; Edward Lee Patterson of Olive Branch, Miss., and Hugh Braxton Dennison III of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Billie Sapp of Corpus Christi and Betty Nichols of Amarillo; a brother, Carl Hall of El Paso; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Georgia St. Mrs. Cochran was born in Denison. She graduated from St. Xavier's Academy in Denison. She moved to Amarillo in 1946 and was a manager of several ladies ready-to-wear shops on Polk Street in the late 1940s. In 1951, she became the managerƒ/ƒbuyer of ladies clothing for Hub Clothier'sƒ/ƒHoward M. Smith Co. She retired in 1979. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Rosary Altar Society. She also was a member of St. Anthony's Hospital Auxiliary, the Amarillo Garden Club, Zonta International and the American Business Women's Association. She married Leslie Cochran in 1933 at Wichita Falls. He died in 1979. Survivors include a daughter, Carole Eck of Amarillo; three granddaughters; and two great-grandsons. TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Harold Ferguson, 72, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Murray, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home. Mr. Ferguson was born in Elkhart, Texas, and had lived in Tucumcari since 1947. He worked for the railroad and was manager of the Tucumcari Bottling Co. He was owner and operator of Dickinson Implement Co. and the Tucumcari Abstract Co., and had been the Quay County Tax Assessor. He was a member of the Tucumcari Elks Lodge No. 1172 and the Tucumcari Crime Stoppers, where he served as treasurer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Ferguson, in 1994. Survivors include three daughters, Billie Jo Burlbaw and Ellen White, both of Tucumcari and Margaret Johnson of Albuquerque; two sons, Wayne Ferguson of Tucumcari and Richard Ferguson of Portales; a brother, Donald Ferguson of Beaumont, Texas; and 11 grandchildren. Gayle Bowen, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery at McLean. Mrs. Kunkel was born in Annona, Red River County, Texas. She worked as a receptionist for Dr. Price in Dumas. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Dumas. She moved to Canyon four years ago. She married B.L. Kunkel in 1939 at Shamrock. He died in 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Bernice Lawley of Canyon; a son, Burl Kunkel of Victorville, Calif.; two sisters, Juanita Kunkel of Amarillo and Mazie Vogt of Missouri City; a brother, David Miller of Katy; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Shirley Ann Powell, 57, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Powell was born in Fort Sumner and had lived in Tucumcari for the past 10 years. She worked as a waitress. She was a homemaker and attended First Christian Church. Survivors include her husband, Gailand Powell; and three brothers, Bob Martin of Clovis, Burrell Martin of Artesia and Noel Martin of Fort Sumner. Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The body will not be available for viewing. Haley Marie Ortiz, six weeks, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel, 15th Avenue and Martin Road. The family will be at 3108 S. Monroe St. SPUR - Brode Milton Puckett, 90, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Burton officiating. Burial will be in Espuela Cemetery by Campbell Funeral Home. Mr. Puckett was born in Dean. He moved to Dickens County in 1919 from Hopkins County. In 1930, he graduated from Spur High School, where he played football and was captain of the team that set a state record. He also played football for Texas Tech, graduating in 1942. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as sergeant. He moved to Wichita Falls in 1952. He was an insurance agent at CIT Financial in Lubbock and Wichita Falls. In 1960, he went to work for Metropolitan Life and retired in 1975. He married Winona Chaney in 1942 at Childress. She died in 1960. He married Adren Morgan Karr in 1977 at Spur. They moved to Dickens County the same year. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Judy Puckett of Arlington and Sandy Stafford of Spur; a sister, Lorene McCrary of Amarillo; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to The Red Raider Club, General Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 456, Lubbock, TX 79408. SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - Lilyan R. Haslet, 90, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Fairmount Cemetery at Denver with the Rev. Ted Klingsmith officiating. Arrangements are by Jolliffe Funeral Home. Mrs. Haslet was born in Indianapolis. She graduated with honors as a Phi Beta Kappa from Butler University in 1932. She was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She moved to Scottsbluff in 1949 and worked for the Chamber of Commerce. She moved to Colorado in 1960 and lived there until 1998, when she returned to Scottsbluff. She married William Haslet in 1933. He preceded her in death. Survivors include three daughters, Susan Fertig of Scottsbluff and Sandra Dale and Ruthanne Uhrich, both of Amarillo; a brother, Donald Brafford of Monroeville, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Georgetown. Arrangements also are by Sheffield Funeral Home of Temple. Mr. Cree was born in Tulsa, Okla. He had lived most of his life in Pampa, where he attended school. He also attended New Mexico Military Institute at Roswell, N.M.; University of Texas at Austin; and Harvard School of Business Management at the University of Hawaii. He had lived in Roatan Island, Honduras and Georgetown. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as a B-24 pilot in the Pacific Theater for the 13th Air Force. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a partner and president of the Cree Drilling Company; Cree Oil Inc.; and the Cree Companies of Pampa. He also was involved in ranching, banking and the electronics industry. Mr. Cree was past president of civic and industry organizations including the Panhandle Producers and Royalty Owners Association; Pampa Chamber of Commerce; Pampa Fine Arts Association; Pampa Industrial Foundation; and Pampa Community Hotel Association. He was former board member of the United Way and the Salvation Army. He served on the Texas governor's conference on Fine Arts and the advisory committee for the American Petroleum Institute. He was active in the Republican Party at local and national levels and was a member of the national electoral college in 1972. He married Frances Thetford Cree in 1943 at Quartzsite, Ariz. Survivors include his wife; three sons, George Cree of Amarillo, Richard Cree of Dallas and Harold Cree of Pampa; a brother, William R. Cree of Abilene; a sister, Bettye Reid of Pampa; and five grandchildren. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers be to The Worship Place in care of Charles Kirsch, 109 Aster Circle, Georgetown, TX 78628; or a favorite charity. GUYMON, Okla. - Vernon Raye Wirtz, 86, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, in Spearman, Texas. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Elmhurst Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Jacobson, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mrs. Wirtz was born in Goldbusk and moved to Brownfield. She married Malcolm Wirtz in 1930 at Brownfield. They were ranchers in Colorado. Her husband preceded her in death. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Guymon and was involved in clubs and civic functions. Survivors include two sons, Joe Wirtz of Washington, Maine, and Douglass Wirtz of Guymon; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Texas County YMCA. Memorials will be accepted at the funeral home.
