He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Amarillo Daily News Sept. 25, 2000 Winfred W. Wise Winfred W. Wise, 77, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Loran Harper, pastor of Comanche Trail Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Wise was born in Newlin and had lived in Amarillo since 1950. He served with the Army during World War II and worked until retiring for Multi-color Incorporated. He was a member of Comanche Trail Church of Christ and a former member of the American Legion and the Lions Club. He married Pauline Ellerd in 1944 at Plainview. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Larry Wise of Chesapeake, Va., Ronald Wise and Gary Wise, both of Amarillo, and Danny Wise of Round Rock; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News Sept. 25, 2000 Irene Coan Irene Coan, 88, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. today in First Christian Church with Dr. Alan Lobaugh, Senior Minister, Dr. John Andrews, Minister of Spiritual Life, and the Rev. Marvin James, Minister of Family Life, officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Coan was born in Hot Springs, Ark., and moved to Amarillo in 1934. She married Gene Coan in 1938 and they had an accounting firm where they worked together for almost 50 years. Her husband died in 1988. Mrs. Coan was a volunteer for the Amarillo chapters of Multiple SclerosisMuscular Dystrophy and the American Heart Association. The president of St. Anthony's Auxiliary, she was a life member of the High Plains Baptist Hospital and St. Anthony's Hospital. She was a longtime member of the Pilot Club, where she served many offices in both the local and Texas District. Through her work with foreign students at the Air Force Base in Amarillo, she was invited and traveled to visit President Ayub Khan in Pakistan. In 1982, she was named Beta Sigma Phi Woman of the Year. She was also named Volunteer of the Year by the Texas District Heart Association. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church. Survivors include a sister, Lillian Roth of Conroe. Amarillo Daily News Sept. 25, 2000 New Mexico J.B. Bryant ALAMOGORDO, N.M. - J.B. Bryant, 80, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery. Mr. Bryant was born in Grady. After graduating from Wheatland High School, he served with the Army during World War II. After 32 years, he retired as a supervisor from Mountain Bell Telephone Co., in 1978. A past president of Telephone Pioneers of Alamogordo, he also was active in the Rodeo Club of Alamogordo. Survivors include his wife, Nina Bryant; a son, Danny Bryant of Red Rock; two daughters, Donna Crandall of Capitan and Connie Richardson of Alamogordo; two sisters, Gladys Price of Logan and Marida Wright of Clovis; and five grandchildren. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Umbarger. Mr. Raef was born in Amarillo. He worked at the Amarillo State Center, where he had been a resident since 1970. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors and Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Viner was born in Amarillo. A retired truck driver, he moved to Sunray in 1984 from Fritch. He married Kristin Price in 1970 at Borger. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Misty Viner of Goodwell, Okla.; two sons, Brad Viner of Springfield, Colo., and Jeff Viner of Sunray; his mother, Ruby Viner of Fritch; a brother, Frank Viner of Fritch; a sister, Charlene Rawlins of Fritch; and a grandchild. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Balko, Okla., with the Rev. Carol Coulter officiating. Memorial services will follow at 4 p.m. at Waka Church of Brethren. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton. Mrs. Carter was born in Clarendon and had lived in the area since 1915. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service and was Postmistress at the Waka Post Office from 1963 until retiring in 1978. She was a member of Waka Church of Brethren. She married Howard Carter in 1934 at Stratford. From 1963 until 1969, she and her husband ran Waka Store. He died in 1994. Survivors include a son, Howard Carter of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Cleta Weemes of Hereford; a brother, Kenneth Kutch of St. Augustine, Fla.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Don Robertson, pastor of College Heights Baptist Church, assisting. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park. Mrs. Smith was born in Chillicothe and graduated from Plainview High School in 1939. She farmed in Providence Community and returned to Plainview in 1972. She was a member of Avion Travelcade Club and Calvary Baptist Church. She married Herbert Norman Smith in 1940 at Plainview. He died in 1991. Survivors include two daughters, Joan Rogers of Fort Worth and Donna Griffith of Lubbock; a son, Herbert Smith of Plainview; two brothers, Wayne Jackson of Plainview and Wylie Jackson of Lubbock; three sisters, Juel Slaughter of Huntington Beach, Calif., Minnie Faye George of Abilene, and Joyce Harrison of Fairfield, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Truman Ledbetter, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mr. Leathers was born in Lelia Lake and was a lifetime resident of Donley County. A longtime farmer and rancher, he had worked for Donley County before his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Joane Bullard in 1943 at Clarendon. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Beverly Hood of Plano; two sons, Robert Wayne Leathers of Pampa and Joe Lynn Leathers of Guthrie; two sisters, Mrs. Hugh Phelps and Mrs. J.L. Mrs. Bynum was born in Anson. She was a member of and pianist at First Missionary Baptist Church in Morton. She married Ike Calvin Bynum in 1927 at Brownfield. He died in 1983. Her son, Ira Chestly Bynum, also preceded her in death. A homemaker, she was a member of the Moore County Genealogy Society and First United Methodist Church. She married Bill Davis in 1929 at Mobeetie. He died in 1985. Survivors include a son, W.L. "Dub" Davis Jr. of Amarillo; two brothers, Paul Powers of White Deer and Lige Eddie Powers of Victoria; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
