"Al" Newberry Jr., 82, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Goodnight Cemetery at Goodnight with the Rev. Truman Ledbetter, pastor of First Baptist Church in Clarendon, officiating. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. of Clarendon. Mr. Newberry was born in Tulia. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Hardin-Simmons University and then attended the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas Medical School. He lived near Premont for 28 years, where he owned a record shop, a furniture and appliance business and a model dairy. He was a member of the Lions Club, the Dairy Improvement Association, the Premont Chamber of Commerce, the Jim Wells County Red Cross and the Costal Area Computer Club. Mr. Newberry had served in the Premont and Corpus Christ Baptist churches. He was a psychologist and personnel officer for Goodwill Industries at Corpus Christi. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi. Survivors include cousins. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery at Petersburg by White Funeral Home. Mrs. Rodriguez was born in Weslaco. She attended school in Petersburg, where she lived until 1958. She married Domingo Rodriguez and they moved to Plainview. In 1976, she returned to Petersburg and worked for Caprock Home Care. She married Jose Sanchez in 1995 and the moved to Idalou. Mrs. Rodriguez was a member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church of Idalou. "Ogie" Evers, 88, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Resthaven Funeral Home, Abbey Chapel. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park. Mr. Evers was born in Brandon and moved to Floyd County in 1915. He graduated from Floydada High School and from Wayland Baptist College at Plainview. He earned his master's degree at West Texas State Teachers College. He taught school in Lakeview and Kress. In 1941 he went to work for the Texas Employment Commission, retiring as administrator in 1976. Mr. Evers was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church. He married Winnie McPhillips in 1941 at Lubbock. He was preceded in death by a son, Earnie Joe Evers in 1950. Survivors include his wife; and a sister, Myra Nell Culp of Happy. He worked with Santa Fe Railway and for IRI International until retiring in 1984. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Pyle married Earma Tignor in 1950 at Sayre, Okla. He was preceded in death by a son, Lynn L. Pyle, in 1996. He was preceded in death by three sons, Teddy Leon, Garth Nath and Marcus McCormick. She moved from Lockney to Rattan, Okla., in 1992. She was a homemaker and a farmer. She was a member of the Methodist church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin "Fate" Traylor. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 26, 2000 Clyde Newton Brown MCLEAN - Clyde Newton Brown, 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thacker Haynes and the Rev. James Martindale officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery by Lamb Funeral Home. Mr. Brown was born in Denton. In 1916, he moved to Canadian, and in 1925 to Shamrock. He married May Belle Grogan in 1937. They bought a farm south of McLean in 1943 and lived there for 56 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at McLean. Mr. Brown served on the boards of Production Credit and the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service farm program. He also served on the McLean School board and the McLean Country Club board of directors. He was foreman for Gray County Precinct No. 4. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Alan Brown. Survivors include his wife; a son, Clyde Richard Brown of McLean; a brother, Emory David Brown of McLean; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He moved to Plainview in 1951 from Ballinger. He worked at Excel Meat Co. and retired in 1981. He married Juanita Torres in 1943 at Ballinger. He was preceded in death by two sons and one daughter. Marvin James, minister of family life, and Chester O'Brien, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Elkins was born in Miami. He served as chief of an oil exploration crew. He moved to Pampa and went into the insurance business. He was active with youth programs in Pampa and had served as a Boy Scout master. In 1960, he moved to Amarillo, where he continued working in insurance and became involved in the rental of real estate property. Mr. Elkins moved to Albuquerque in April. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Downtown Lions Club. He married Cleo Laverne Benton in 1937 at Pampa. She died in January. Survivors include a son, Richard G. "Dick" Elkins of Albuquerque; foster children, Kenneth Elkins of Houston and Jeanette Grisham of Amarillo; three sisters, a brother; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He volunteered at High Plains Baptist Hospital Auxiliary and the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association including the Volunteer Income Tax Assistants. Mr. Wagner was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church and the Heritage Choir. He married Marjorie Hall in 1948 at Fort Logan, Colo. Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Philomena Lebsock of Lincoln, Neb., and Gertrude Herbst of Hastings; and two brothers, Carl Wagner and Harold Wagner, both of Hastings. She earned her bachelor's degree at Oklahoma State University in 1934 and her master's degree at the University of Michigan in 1948. She was a musician, a piano teacher and a published composer. She taught at West Texas State University. Mrs. Wheeler was a member of the Polk Street United Methodist Church and the Amarillo Music Teachers Association. She married Harry Wheeler in 1935 at Stillwater, Okla. He died in 1997. Survivors include two sons, Mike Wheeler of Amarillo and John Wheeler of Dallas; two daughters, Judy Kingsberry of Denver and Carolyn Jeanne Roy of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Pritchard was born in Walters. She attended school in Mountain View and graduated in 1940. She was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church. She moved to Guymon in 1946 from Elk City. She was a homemaker and had been involved in retail businesses. She married Herschell Pritchard in 1940 at Hobart. He died in 1956. She married G. R. "Bob" Goldsberry in 1958. He died in 1993. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Janeth Kay Pritchard.
