Mr. Blake was born in Palmyra, Ill. During World War II he served in the Navy aboard the USS Mississippi as a pharmacist's mate first class. He received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal of Honor. He graduated from Brown's Business College in Illinois and worked as a division auditor for Southwestern Public Service Co. He married Jean Frances Greening in 1946 at Roswell, N.M. She died in 1982. Survivors include a son, Dr. Greg Blake of Knoxville, Tenn.; a daughter, Emily Pillsbury of Amarillo; and five grandchildren. Hughes St. Mr. Kemp was born in Amarillo and was a lifetime resident. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1983. While in school he played flute, served as drum major for the Horace Mann Junior High School band and was in orchestra and choir. He participated in speech competitions at district and state levels. He was active with Neil Hess School of Dance, Lone Star Ballet Co. and Amarillo Theatre Center. Mr. Kemp attended Continental Beauty College in Houston and became a hair designer and make-up artist. He worked for Rogers Beauty Salon and was a platform artist for Paul Mitchell and MasterPece Hair Corp. Mr. Pettigrew was born in Clovis and had been a lifetime resident of the Grady and Broadview areas. He graduated from Grady High School and attended South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. He was a farmer, raised horses and cattle and also welded metal sculptures. He was a member of Broadview Church of Christ. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson was born in Salt Lake City and moved to Clovis in 1969. He served in the Air Force from 1966 to 1970. He began working for the Clovis Police Department in the late 1970s as a corporal and left the department in 1994 as a detective. He was honored as Officer of the Quarter and was named Officer of the Year in 1990. He attended First Baptist Church. Amarillo Daily News, Sept. 26, 2000 Oklahoma Maude Goss ADAMS, Okla. - Maude Goss, 95, formerly of Adams, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, in Perryton, Texas. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Adams Baptist Church with her son, the Rev. John N. Goss Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery, near Adams. Arrangements are by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker. Mrs. Goss was born in Lake City, Iowa. She married the Rev. John N. Goss Sr. in 1928 at Edmond. They lived in Asher, Balko, Texhoma and Liberal, Kan., before serving 28 years in Ralls. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She and her husband retired to Estacado, Texas, moved to Adams in 1998 and then moved to Senior Village in Perryton. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999; and by a daughter, Ethel Marie Beckham. Survivors include a son, the Rev. John N. Goss Jr. of Adams; a half-brother, George McCaulley of Florida; a half-sister, Bernice; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Gideons International. Jim Ross Powell, 62, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, in Siloam Springs, Ark. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Bethel United Methodist Church at West Siloam Springs with the Rev. Delbert Watkins, the Rev. John Hauser and the Rev. Ken Pate officiating. Cremation and other arrangements are by Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs. The Rev. Powell was born in Armstrong County, Texas, and grew up in Amarillo. He graduated from Amarillo High School; earned a bachelor's degree at West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas; and earned a master's degree in divinity from Brites School of Theology. He attended Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky. At the time of his death he was pastor of Bethel United Methodist Church in West Siloam Springs; Watts United Methodist Church; and Westville United Methodist Church. He was a member of Kairos Prison Ministries and a board member of United Methodist Oklahoma Conference of Prison Ministries. He was a lay chaplain at J.H. Lilly Correctional Facility at Boley. He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Wesley Powell. Survivors include his wife, Paula Powell; a son, Randy Powell of the home; a brother, George Powell of South Fork, Colo.; and a sister, Doris Maxwell of Fort Worth, Texas. He graduated from Amarillo High School, Amarillo College, and Southern Methodist University School of Banking. He served in the Army at Okinawa. He worked in Amarillo for American National Bank and SIC. He served as senior vice president and trust officer for Brownfield State Bank and American State Bank of Brownfield and Lubbock before retiring in 1994. He was past president of Brownfield Optimist Club and a member of the Red Coats and the Masonic Lodge. He served on the boards of Brownfield Regional Medical Center Hospital and the X,Y,Z. Survivors include his wife, Katrinka; two sons, Kern Park of Kaufman and Donny Park of Austin; two daughters, Jeana Moore of Goose Creek, S.C., and Jamie Roney of Lubbock; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Mr. Raef was born in Amarillo. He worked at the Amarillo State Center, where he had been a resident since 1970. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger. She lived in Littlefield the past 16 months, moving from Friona, where she had lived since 1968. She was a dispatcher for Friona Police Department. She was a member of Union Congregational Church. She married Sam Richards in 1955 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1989. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Bentley, in 1995. Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Odell of Lubbock; a son, Randy Richards, of Wolfforth; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Mr. Clements was born in Crowley. He graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth. He moved to Moore County in 1957. He served on the board of directors for Rita Blanca Electric Co-op and as president of the Middlewell School board. He was a member of Moore County Farm Bureau and served on the committee of Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. He was a member of the Panhandle Economic Planning Committee, where he worked toward legislation allowing individual farmers access to natural gas for irrigation. He was a 4-H Club leader, was named Texas Farmer of the Year in 1972 and was listed in "Who's Who in America." He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharist minister. He married Evelyn Luke in 1945 at Hereford. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Annette Guidry, in 1984. Survivors include his wife; four sons, James F. Clements and Michael J. Clements, both of Dumas, Brice Patrick Clements of Colorado Springs, Colo., and L. Edward Clements of Keller; two daughters, Susan McDowell of Sunray and Michele Gibson of South Lake; two brothers, John Clements of Crowley and Steve Clements of Fort Worth; two sisters, Anne Sterling of Albuquerque, N.M., and Helen Smith of Big Spring; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Sept. 26, 2000 Bettye Burrow CLAUDE - Bettye Burrow, 84, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in United Methodist Church with Dr. Roy M. Rutherford, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 117 N. Trice, in Claude. Mrs. Burrow was born on the Craine Ranch in Armstrong County. A lifelong resident of the County, she worked at the bank and the co-op in Claude. She was bookkeeper at Burrow Brothers Chevrolet. She was a docent of the Art Center and was involved with the Unity Study Club and the Women's Business Club. She was a charter board member of Armstrong County Museum and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Methodist Church of Claude. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Burrow, in 1982. Survivors include two nephews, Donnie Smith of Amarillo and Doug Smith of Austin. The family suggests memorials be to Khiva Temple Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 328, Amarillo, TX 79105. The body will be available for viewing from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
