Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Jackson, pastor, the Rev. Danny Barker of Brewster, Kan., and the Rev. Dan Carter of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Morton Memorial Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Merritt was born in Flomot and moved to Morton in 1946. He attended West Texas State College at Canyon. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He and his father and brother had owned a Mobil Oil and Gas distributorship and the Red Horse Service Station in Morton. He began to farm full time in 1967 and was named one of the outstanding farmers of America in 1971. In 1977, he and his family were recognized as the farm family of the year in Cochran County. Mr. Merritt was a past member of the Morton City Council. He was a member of the Cochran County Farm Bureau, the American Quarter Horse Association and First United Methodist Church. He married Glynna Kennedy in 1951 at Morton. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Monty Merritt and Donnie Merritt, both of Morton; his mother, Amy Merritt of Martin; two brothers, J.D. "Dake" Merritt of Morton and Ervin Merritt of Granbury; and seven grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Cochran County Unit of the American Cancer Society; or First Baptist Church, 202 S.E. First, Morton, TX 79346. Amarillo Daily News, April 27, 2000 Robert Bryan Wolf WELLINGTON - Robert Bryan Wolf, 42, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Arlie Cemetery. Officiants are the Honorable David McCoy, 100th Judicial District Judge, Joe Stewart, Collingsworth County Chief Deputy Sheriff, Rusty Lee, Collingsworth County Sheriff, and Dale Tarver, King County Sheriff. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Wolf was born in Wellington and graduated from Wellington High School in 1975. He attended Clarendon College. He had been a radio disc jockey for KCTX in Childress and had worked at Turner Security Service. He had worked on a farm. He was the jail administrator and deputy sheriff. He had helped to write the jail standards manual used in the state of Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He married Tina Doshier in 1999 at Pioneer Park in Collingsworth County. Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Wolfe and Henry Wolf, both of Strawn; his mother and stepfather, Bethine and J.C. Mitchell of Amarillo and Albert Mitchell of Dallas. Amarillo Daily News, April 27, 2000 Weldon Windfield Teague CHILDRESS - Weldon Windfield Teague, 81, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Johnny Robertson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Teague was born in Alvord and moved to Childress in 1921. He entered military service in 1940 and received battlefield commission in North Africa in 1943. He had received 17 military recognitions. In 1967, he was awarded the Military Cross of Honor for World War II and Korean service, bestowed by the United Daughters of the Confederacy. He retired in 1967 as lieutenant colonel. Mr. Teague had worked for the Texas Highway Department and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Red Cross, and the Reserve Officers Association. He had served as chairman of blood services and disaster services for a local Chapter of the American Red Cross; as past commander of the American Legion Post No. 65; and past board member of Teague Memorial Association. Survivors include his wife, Doris Teague of Childress; a daughter, Erin Wages of Childress; and a grandson. Amarillo Daily News, April 27, 2000 Thelma L. Hopkins PAMPA - Thelma L. Mrs. Hopkins was born in Bell County and was a long-time resident of Pampa. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She married Siler Hopkins at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1952. Survivors include a son, Jim Hopkins; a daughter Jeannie Cunningham of Panhandle; seven grandchildren; and 17 greatgrandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, April 27, 2000 Ashel Cross McDaniel SILVERTON - Ashel Cross McDaniel, 86, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, Tulia. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Rock Creek Church of Christ with J.D. Nance and Ted Kingery officiating. Burial will be in Silverton Cemetery by Myers-Long Funeral Directors. Mr. McDaniel was born in Rock Creek. He was a farmer and rancher and had operated the Texaco station in Silverton. He had worked at the funeral homes in Silverton, Quitaque and Turkey. Mr. McDaniel was a member of the Briscoe County Activities Association and was active in the Silverton Senior Citizens. He was a member and deacon of the Rock Creek Church of Christ. He married Mildred Martin in 1935 at Silverton. In 1994, they were named Briscoe County Pioneer Couple of the Year. She died in 1997. Survivors include two daughters, Nena Hunt of Clarendon and Elaine LaBaume of Floydada; a sister, Ruby McWaters of Silverton; four grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1993 and worked for the city of Amarillo until he retired in February. He married Shirley Green in 1955 at Panhandle. Survivors include his wife; a son, Billy Wagner of Amarillo; a daughter, Bobbie Wagner Brown of Amarillo; his mother, Pauline Alford of Hartshorne, Okla.; two sisters, Kellie Barone and Alice Jeffries, both of Hartshorne; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren. Mr. Solano was born in Amarillo and was a graduate of Caprock High School. He had worked as a chef at the Seville Estates and was a chef at the Ambassador Hotel. She was a member of the Narcissus-Whitman Club and a volunteer for the Medical Auxiliary of Northwest Texas Hospital. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She married Fritz Lancton in 1935 at Corsicana. He died in 1967. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann McKay of Lubbock; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was born in Tyler and had lived in Melrose from 1951 to 1998. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a resident of Fort Worth. She married Walt Smith in 1930. He died in 1977. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Cowgill and Kay Turrentine, both of Fort Worth; two brothers, Herbert Breitling of Amarillo and J.D. Breitling of Dalhart; two sisters, Alene Morris of Susanville, Calif., and Shirley Phillips of Hobbs; six grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church of Melrose. Amarillo Daily News, April 27, 2000 R.B. Ingram CLOVIS, N.M. - R.B. Ingram, 94, died Tuesday, February 29, 2000. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Bader officiating. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mr. Ingram was born in Maypearl. He moved to Clovis in 1937. He helped to open a Piggly Wiggly grocery store at Clovis and another at Portales. He had also helped to establish five stores in eastern New Mexico and west Texas. He was also involved in the building of Sears and Mountain Bell Telephone offices in Clovis. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Hunter Ingram, in 1986. Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis McDaniel of Clovis and Wilda Schlenker of Placitas; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers be to a favorite charity. Amarillo Daily News, April 27, 2000 Elsewhere Lois Marie Young FAIRMOUNT, Ill. - Lois Marie Cumrine Young, 73, formerly of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, in Amarillo. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Wolfe Funeral Home at Potomac. Burial will be in the Potomac Cemetery at Potomac. Mrs. Young was born in East St. Louis and grew up in Danville, where she attended Danville High School. She married Harold Eugene Young in 1946. They lived in Amarillo while he was in the Air Force. Between 1965 and 1985, they lived in Amarillo and traveled in a RV. They later lived in Lakewood, N.M. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Cynthia Lynn Young Rue of Amarillo; a son, Jerry Young of Austin; a brother, Ray Earl Cumrine of Valdosta, Ga.; and three grandsons. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
