Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Eleventh Street Baptist Church with the Rev. David Williams, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Daves was born in Collingsworth County. She lived in Arkansas until 1979, when she moved back to Shamrock. She was a homemaker and a member of Eleventh Street Baptist Church. She married Argus Andrew Daves in 1935 at Wellington. He died in 1986. Mrs. Davis is survived by a son, Mark Allen Daves of Orange. Amarillo Daily News, May 27, 2000 Olen G. Elkins TULIA - Olen G. Elkins, 72, died Thursday, May 25, 2000. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ernie McGaughey, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home. Mr. Elkins was born and grew up in Tulia. He attended schools at Elkins and graduated from Tulia High School in 1944. In 1949, he graduated from Texas Tech University. He served in the military during the Korean War from 1951-52 and was a farmer and rancher. Mr. Elkins married Evelyn "Mickey" Omega in 1963. She died in 1966. Survivors include three daughters, Cheetah Wiebusch of Singapore, Joey Robertson of Allen and Janie Thompson of Tulia; one son, Jimmy Elkins of East Haddam, Conn.; two sisters, Oleta Richardson of Marble Falls and Doris Dixon of Lubbock; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Amarillo Daily News, May 27, 2000 Gracie Othel Banks CHILDRESS - Gracie Othel Banks, 84, died Thursday, May 25, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mrs. Banks was born in Krum and moved with her family to Childress in 1924. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church. She married A.J. Banks in 1929. He died in 1940. She married Rufus Banks in 1941. He died in 1976. She also was preceded in death by a son, J.R. Banks, in 1977. Survivors include three sons, Eugene Banks of Liverpool, Larry Banks of Austin and Roy Lee Banks of Childress; two daughters, Luella Davis of Childress and Goldie Potts of Lubbock; and 18 grandchildren. Survivors include a daughter, Billie Harris of Fritch; a son, Clint Mayes of Fritch; her mother, Billie Wilson of Fritch; a sister, Elaine Weir of Amarillo; two brothers, Jim Trout of Camarillo, Calif., and Wes Trout of Westminster, Colo.; and one grandchild. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Morrison Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Roger Orr, missions minister of First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery. Mr. Spivey was born in Nocona. During World War II, he served in the Navy. He was an instrument technician for Phillips Petroleum, retiring in 1975. Mr. Spivey married Ida Sleeker in 1940 at Waurika, Okla. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Thompson of Amarillo; two sons, Dale Spivey of Austin and John Spivey of Amarillo; a sister, Florence Wantland of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, May 27, 2000 Ruth Waller PLAINVIEW - Ruth Waller, 91, died Thursday, May 25, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jack McClung, chaplain of Prairie House Living Center, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park. Mrs. Waller was born in Red River County and grew up in Clarksville. In 1952, she moved to Plainview and worked for the Hilton Hotel as a waitress, cook and head of housekeeping. She was a Jehovah's Witness. She married Mike Waller in 1922. He died in 1975. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Ward, in 1978; and a son, Hershel Lee Waller, in 1988. Survivors include three daughters, Pat King and Ellen Sally Curtis, both of Plainview and Loren Brown of Texarkana; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Osage St., with Windell Taylor, chaplain for the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System, officiating. Mr. Clark was born in Oklahoma City. He served in the National Guard in Los Angeles and later joined the Air Force. He moved to Amarillo in 1970 from the Los Angeles area. He worked for Taylor Petroleum. Mr. Clark is survived by a brother, Charles Clark of Amarillo. The family suggests memorials be to the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System. Georgia St. Mrs. Martinez was born in Clayton, N.M. She was a member of the Christian Life Center, where she was a secretary. She married Rex Martinez in 1996 at Amarillo. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery East by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Woods was born in Amarillo. She worked on horseback for Deaf Smith County Feed Yard and for Amarillo Public Schools. She was a volunteer for Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice Olivia's Angels and sang in area nursing homes. Mrs. Woods was involved with the ministry for truck drivers at Petro Truck Stop and she was active in the "Country Crossroads" program on radio station KDJW. She was a lifetime member of the Bethel Assembly Church. Survivors include four daughters, Shawn Shipman and Sharon Bewley, both of Amarillo, Penny Carrol-Tanner of Lubbock and Debbie Bewley of Lufkin; two sons, Steve Yale-Leonard of Amarillo and Allen Carrol-Tanner of Lubbock; her mother, Viola Yale of Amarillo; her father, Roy Linton of Amarillo; a sister, Camille Brown of Tennessee; 16 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. Rochelle Chambers, 37, of Amarillo, died Thursday, May 25, 2000. Memorial services will be Wednesday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Cremation and arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Chambers was born in Nacogdoches. She graduated from high school in Tulsa, Okla., and attended Tulsa Junior College at Tulsa. She had lived in Amarillo since 1982. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Chambers, in 1996. Survivors include a son, Eddie Wilson of Amarillo; her parents, James and Kathleen Bates of Amarillo; two brothers, David James Bates of Carrollton and Mike Bates of Amarillo. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers be to City Church. Amarillo Daily News, May 27, 2000 New Mexico Helen Jo Shaeffer CLOVIS, N.M. - Helen Jo Shaeffer, 93, died Thursday, May 25, 2000. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in First Presbyterian Church with N. Scott King and the Rev. Lance Clemmons officiating. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Crown Hill Memorial Cemetery at Denver. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Shaeffer was born in Denver. She married Earl Martin Shaeffer in 1925 at Denver. She attended Mesa College at Grand Junction, Colo., earned a bachelor's degree from Colorado State University at Greeley, Colo., in 1954, and earned a master's degree in education at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Colo., in 1960. She taught elementary school and also served as principal of several schools in Grand Junction. She pioneered ungraded primary block (first through third grades) throughout Colorado and Utah. Mrs. Shaeffer served as an associate professor at Western State College in Gunnison, Colo., and at California State University in Fresno, Calif. She also led workshops and made speeches on reading methods. She was named to the International Who's Who, Who's Who of American Women, and Personalities of the West and Midwest. In 1966, she received the Outstanding Alumni Award from Colorado State University. In Grand Junction, Mrs. Shaeffer was a member of the Crippled Children's board, Cerebral Palsy board, Goodwill board and the Child Welfare board. She was past president of the Federated Women's Club. After moving to Clovis in 1973, she was a volunteer literacy tutor at Cannon Air Force Base. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was ordained a ruling elder in 1984. She also was a member of Chapter G of the P.E.O. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a son, E. Martin Shaeffer Jr. of Clovis; a daughter, Bobbie Jo Irwin of Houston; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund. Amarillo Daily News, May 27, 2000 Bob M. Hash RATON, N.M. - Bob M. Hash, 63, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000. Private graveside services will be later in Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Amarillo. Arrangements by Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home. Mr. Hash was born in Poolville, Texas. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1955 and from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, in 1959. He then worked for the federal government and later was a self-employed custom harvester. Survivors include two sisters, Maxine Suttle of Raton and Joyce Martin of French Tract. Amarillo Daily News, May 27, 2000 Oklahoma Douglas Paul Salmon WOODWARD, Okla. - Douglas Paul Salmon, 59, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Stickley-Hill Funeral Home Chapel at Canadian, Texas, with Dr. Lewis Holland, pastor of First United Methodist Church at Canadian, officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Shady Grove Cemetery at Winnsboro, Texas. Mr. Salmon was born in Winnsboro. He graduated from high school in Lindsay. He lived in Laverne and Shattuck before moving to Woodward, where he worked in the oil and gas industry until retiring in the 1980s. He raised horses after his retirement. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, National Rifle Association, Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission, National Wild Turkey Federation and Alcoholics Anonymous. Mr. Salmon married Rita G. Loomis in 1987 at Woodward. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally Rhea Salmon, in 1994. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Terri Farabee of Wichita Falls, Texas, Topsy Wright of Shamrock and Bobbi Loomis of Woodward; his father, Woodrow Salmon of Shattuck; and six grandchildren.
