Rhoten FRITCH - Rex T. Rhoten, 79, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, in Amarillo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Southern Baptist Church with the Rev. John Lindsey officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery at Amarillo. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Rhoten was born in Strong City, Okla. He had lived in the Borger area for 53 years and in Fritch for 19 years. During World War II, he served in the Army. He retired from Phillips Petroleum Co. He was a member of the AFL-CIO Local No. 351 and the First Southern Baptist Church. Mr. Rhoten married Emily Little in 1967 at Borger. Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Gary Temple of Reno, Nev.; a daughter, Carol Petty of Borger; a stepdaughter, Vicki Gray of Fort Worth; a brother, C.G. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Quanah First Baptist Church with the Rev. Don McFarland, minister of Parkview Baptist Church in Childress, officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park by Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Crabtree was born in Eldorado, Okla., and was a longtime resident of Quanah. In 1986, she retired as Hardeman County deputy clerk. She was bookkeeper and the owner and operator of several restaurants. She was a homemaker and a member of the Parkview Baptist Church in Childress and the Ladies Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She married Gene Crabtree in 1979 at Oklahoma City. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Billy Dan Tigert of Arcadia, Okla., and Randal Lee Tigert of Missouri City; four daughters, Jeannie Parrish of Elk City, Okla., Linda Evans and Tina Edwards, both of Quanah and Janet Dunn of Gonzales, La.; two brothers, Jerry Bruce Daniel and Clovis Cary Daniel Jr., both of Quanah; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Thomas was born in Altus, Okla. She had lived in Clarendon for 20 years before moving to Denver five years ago. She was a nurse's aide at the Plainview Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and a member of the Childress Church of Christ. She married William Lloyd Thomas in 1940 at Plainview. He died in 1992. Survivors include two sons, Jerry L. Thomas of Bloomfield, N.M., and Ralph L. Thomas of Denver; a sister, Florence Pillow of Seagraves; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker. She married Pete Georgantones in 1933 at Fort Worth. He died in 1962. She married George Angelos in 1963 at Amarillo. He died in 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Helene Botsonis of Amarillo; a son, Jimmy Georgantones of Los Angeles; two brothers, Gus George of Irving and Jimmie George of Weatherford; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She owned Geneva's Westhaven Barber Shop and provided free haircuts at Faith City Mission. She was a member of the San Jacinto Baptist Church, where she was a volunteer. She also did two years of mission work in Russia. Mrs. Dowlen was born in La Junta, Colo. She was a longtime resident of Clayton and graduated from Clayton High School in 1932. She was a registered nurse and a businesswoman. She was a member of Chapter W of the Professional Educators Organization, the American Legion Auxiliary and the First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse J. Swagerty II, in 1952; and by her second husband, Toney Wade Dowlen, in 1994. Survivors include a son, Jesse J. Swagerty III of Arlington, Texas; a stepdaughter, Candace Vice of Houston; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. Mr. Wilbanks was born in Tyler. He had lived in Big Spring more than 50 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He worked at Safeway until opening Ultra Video, which he managed until retiring in 1995. Survivors include a son, Rod Wilbanks of Lubbock; a sister, Bettye Smith of Jacksonville; and his stepmother, Mary Robinson of Odessa. Mr. Hutcheson was born in Farmersville and grew up in Hereford. He lived in Beeville from 1967 to 1989. He moved from Aransas Pass to Big Spring in 1993. He was an Army veteran and a member of Baptist Temple Church. He married Violet Cox in 1960 at Memphis, Tenn. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lacy Hall of Bedford; three sisters, Marchetta Hutcheson and Carolyn Hutcheson, both of Hereford and Kathy Davis of Dimmitt. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 27, 2000 Raymond Lawson Shidler WICHITA, Kan. - Raymond Lawson "Ray" Shidler, 85, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in Riverview, Fla. Graveside services were at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Hooker Cemetery at Hooker, Okla. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Celebration Baptist Church in Wichita. Arrangements are by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home of Hooker. Mr. Shidler was born in Brison, Colo. He attended school at Midian, Moline, Winfield and Valley Center. He attended June Frisby Music Academy at Wichita. In 1933, he joined a repertoire company that performed in Wichita. He played tenor banjo, touring with musical groups throughout Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas and Nebraska. He returned to Wichita in 1940 and worked for Beech Aircraft Co. He formed the Wichita Banjo Band in 1978. Mr. Shidler married Johanna Ebisch in 1938 at Guymon, Okla. She died in 1982. He married Kathleen Cook in 1984. Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Dennis Cook of Wichita and Dean Cook of Riverview; two brothers, Carlyle Shidler of Salem, Ore., and Lloyd Shidler of Wichita; two sisters, Maxine Wendel and Phyllis Brothers, both of Winfield; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 27, 2000 Jack R. McCarrell ELKHART, Kan. - Jack R. McCarrell, 58, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Church of God with the Rev. Ron Crosley officiating. Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery by Harrell Funeral Home. Mr. McCarrell was born in Paris, Texas, and had lived in Elkhart since 1972. He was a field tech for Panhandle Gas Co. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Elkhart. Mr. McCarrell married Karen I. Fields in 1962 at Tacoma, Wash. She died in 1998. Survivors include a son, Dennis R. McCarrell; a sister, Mary Ella Dixon of Amarillo; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be to the American Heart Association; or Transplant Games in care of the funeral home. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 27, 2000 R.T. Newton LEVELLAND - R.T. "Bob" Newton, 75, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, in Lubbock. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jesse Hodge, pastor, and the Rev. Dan Carter, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Morton, officiating. Masonic graveside rites will be rendered by Levelland Lodge No. 1236 AF&AM. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park by George C. Price Funeral Directors. Mr. Newton was born in Grapevine and attended schools in Crosby and Gaines counties. He served in the Marines during World War II and the Korean War. He was general manager of Farmers Co-op Gin of Enochs, retiring in 1992 and moving to Levelland, where he was sales consultant for Kimbell Gin Machinery of Lubbock. Mr. Newton was past president of the Texas Cotton Ginners Association and the Plains Ginners Association. He also served as director of Texas Agricultural Cooperative Council, the Bula School Board, Bailey County Livestock Board and Bailey County Appraisal Board. He was named Ginner of the Year and Cooperative Ginner of the Year. He was a Master Mason and member of the Levelland Lodge No. 1236 AF&AM. He also was a member, Worshipful Master and secretary of the Antelope Lodge No. 1245 of Morton. In 1986 he served as District Deputy Grand Master for the 94th Masonic District. He received the Golden Trowel Award in 1999. Mr. Newton served as Master of Kadosh Lubbock Consistory, Commander of Lubbock Council of Kadosh, Wise Master of Lubbock Chapter of Rose Croix and Venerable Master of Lubbock Lodge of Perfection. In 1997, he was honored with the Knight Commander County of Honor. He was a member of the Khiva Shrine Temple, the Levelland Chapter No. 797, the Shallowater Chapter No. 1134, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Newton served on the Methodist church board of trustees in Enochs and Morton. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Levelland. He married Louise Fred in 1948 at Levelland. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dennis Newton of Hereford, Tom Newton of Morton and Steve Newton of Ralls; two sisters, Joe Bray of Levelland and Pat Davis of Lubbock; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to West Texas Scottish Rite Learning Center, 602 Avenue Q, Lubbock, TX 79401; First United Methodist Church, 1011 Houston, Levelland, TX 79336; or a favorite charity.
