Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Rose Chapel at Gililland-Watson Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Dean McNamara, chaplain of Vista Care Hospice, officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. in Littlefield Cemetery at Littlefield. Mrs. Lewis was born in Union, Miss., and moved to Texas in 1920. In 1994, she moved to Hereford from Carlsbad, N.M., where she was a member of Carlsbad Bible Church. She worked as a nurse in Lubbock hospitals. She married James Lewis in 1959 at Carlsbad. He died in 1992. Survivors include her sister, Maggie Sue Thweatt of Bootleg. The family suggests memorials be to Vista Care Hospice; or a favorite charity. DUMAS - Faris E. Rice, 96, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, in Borger. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Morrison Funeral Directors Chapel with Mr. Art Lynch, minister of First Street Church of Christ, officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery at McLean. Mr. Rice was born in Springer, Okla. Before moving to Dumas in 1969, he was a longtime resident of Blackwell, Okla. After retiring in 1969 from Arkla Natural Gas at Blackwell, he worked for Dumas Independent School District. He married Quanah Osman in 1927 at Oklahoma. She died in 1981. His daughter, Donna Hardin, died in 1964. Survivors include a son, Don Rice of Borger; two grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The family will be at 1022 N. Hedgecoke in Borger and suggests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice, 1000 S. Jefferson, Amarillo, TX 79101. CHILDRESS - Rebecca Grantham, 75, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, in Arlington. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Wilbarger Memorial Park at Vernon with Mr. Larry Evans officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home. Mrs. Grantham was born in Hopkins County. A homemaker, she was a member of Parkview Baptist Church. Her husband, Hubert Henry Grantham, preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Hubert "Jerry" Gerald Grantham of Wichita Falls and James Henry Grantham of Grand Prairie; two daughters, Alice Faye Machett of Jacksboro and Lois Kay Chism of Amarillo; three brothers, Delvin Fitzgerald of Sulfur Springs, Doyle Fitzgerald of Quitman and Tildon Fitzgerald of Dallas; a sister, Mary Edna Whiteker of Dallas; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. MEMPHIS - Ginoveva Garcia, 72, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Travis Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Hatch officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Memphis Funeral Home. Mrs. Garcia was born in Beeville and had lived in Memphis for 30 years. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. She married Pedro Garcia in 1956. He died in 1987. Survivors include three sons, Adam Martinez and Ricky Garcia, both of Memphis, and Fernando Garcia of Childress; three daughters, Sylvia Edwards and Cynthia Maldonado, both of Memphis, and Janie Edwards of Austin; two brothers, Alfredo Chavarria of Beeville and Adam Chavarria of Abilene; a sister, Elida Fernandez of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Lakeview Baptist Church. PAMPA - Sam Edward Devers, 86, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Randy White, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Devers was born in Wichita Falls and had lived in Pampa for more than 40 years. He retired as a mechanic from Tom Rose Motor Co. Survivors include three sons, Sam D. Devers of Pampa, and James Devers and Gene Devers, both of Greenville; two stepdaughters, Cynthia Smith of Killeen and Cathy Carruth of Anchorage, Alaska; five sisters, Margaret Fuller and Dorthy Ritch, both of Austin, Genevie Robinson of Wallis, Mary Driscoll of Weatherford, and Lora Sanders of Wichita Falls; a brother, Leo Devers of Houston; and grandchildren. FRITCH - Kemett "Slim" Messenger Sr., 76, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, in Amarillo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Trinity Lutheran Church at Borger with Pastor Robert Kuhlmann officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Messenger was born in Elsey, Mo., and had lived in the Fritch area for 35 years. He worked as a maintenance foreman for Phillips Petroleum Co., at the Philtex Plant, retiring in 1985. During World War II, he served with the Army Air Corps. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served as a trustee. He married Dorothea Brinkman in 1944. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kemett C. Messenger Jr. of Ulysses, Kan., and Lance R. Messenger of Borger; two daughters, Gayla Jean Smith of Yukon, Okla., and Patricia Ann Demand of Katy; four sisters, Willie McVey of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Mary McDaniel of Naperville, Ill., Gynith Sossamon of Owasso, Okla., and Marjorie Pettit of Springfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 8008 Slide Road, #12 A, Lubbock, TX 79424. Dwight H. Denmead, 85, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Scott Greer officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Denmead was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, and moved to Amarillo in 1927. After graduating from Amarillo High School in 1933 and attending Amarillo College, he worked for the Bureau of Mines Helium Operations at the Amarillo plant. He assisted in the initial startup of the Excell plant, the Otis and Cunningham plants in Kansas, and the Navajo plant in Shiprock, N.M. In 1974, he retired as superintendent of the Amarillo plant. He married Ann Faith in 1971 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Don Denmead of the Philippines and Randy Jones of Amarillo; and a daughter, Debbie Barron of Amarillo. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be to a favorite charity. Robert "Bob" Wadley, 83, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with Dr. James E. Garrett, pastor of Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Wadley was born in Dallas and moved to Amarillo in 1930. He retired from farming and ranching operations in Randall County. He graduated from Oklahoma State University, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha. A 12-year veteran of the Air Force, he served in the Pacific Theatre, was a B-29 commander and a pilot for Syngman Rhee in Korea. Mr. Wadley was a Baptist and a member of Tascosa Country Club. He married Lou Ann Burson in 1952 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jan Peck of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren. Vidal O. Barba, 88, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Rosindo Herrera of Saint Laurence Cathedral officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Barba was born in Arandas, Jalisco, Mexico. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He married Victoria Rodriguez in 1940 in Mexico. She died in 1988. Survivors include three daughters, Rosa Mares, Manuela Beltran, and Adela Lucero, all of Amarillo; a son, Alpolonio Barba of Fort Worth; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. LARNED, Kan. - Lyndon "Cowboy" Beard, 52, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Morell Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Savage officiating. Burial will be in Larned Cemetery. Mr. Beard was born in Littlefield, Texas, and moved to Larned in 1989. He worked in oil fields and was a farmer. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Larned. He married Lavera E. Lawrence in 1992 at Larned. Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Randy Lawrence of Belpre; a stepdaughter, Marletta Shelton of Larned; his mother, Nova Beard of Amarillo, Texas; three sisters, Elmeta Beard of Saginaw, Texas, Lynda Jones of Oklahoma City, and Patricia Singleton of Amarillo; and five grandchildren. Box 124, Larned, KS 67550-0124. BEAVER, Okla. - Betty Lou Raven, 78, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, in Oklahoma City. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Beaver United Methodist Church with John Breon officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery by Clark Funeral Service. Mrs. Raven was born in Fredrick, Kan., and had lived in Beaver since 1963. After graduating from high school, she attended business college and worked as a bank teller. She married Vernon J. Raven in 1944 at Salina, Kan. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Jon Raven of San Jose, Calif., Glenn Raven of Beaver, and Charles Raven of Garden City, Kan.; a daughter, Janell Riggs of Beaver; a sister, Jean Mullenix of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
