Mrs. Ransom was born in Vernon and moved to Amarillo from Colorado Springs, Colo. An artist and retired businesswoman, she was owner and operator of the Patio Shop and the Trolley Car Shop. She was a member of Dayspring Ministries. She married Jarrett J. Ransom in 1936 at Amarillo. He died in 1998. Survivors include a daughter, Sue Ellen Sanders of Amarillo; four sons, Bruce Ransom of Amarillo, Ed Ransom of New Braunfels, Bill Ransom of Tucson, Ariz., and Tim Ransom of Phoenix; a sister, Greta Louise Osborne of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Dec. 28, 2000 George T. Schmitz George T. Schmitz, 86, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in Hereford. Private services will be by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Schmitz was born in Canyon. After receiving a bachelor of science degree in 1951 and a master of science in business administration in 1952 from West Texas State College, he worked at Pantex as an engineer until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of Toastmasters International and American Ordinance Association. During World War II he served with the Army Air Corps. Survivors include a sister, Anna Ruth Erwin of Amarillo. Entombment will be by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Davis was born in White Deer and graduated from White Deer High School. She married Donald V. Davis in 1947 at Panhandle. They moved to Amarillo in 1943. She was a homemaker and a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Gail Henson and Janice Frigo, both of Amarillo; three sisters, Jean Baker of Amarillo, Vivian Haiduk of Panhandle and Netha Garrett of Paris, Texas; a brother, Dale Heath of Texas City; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Mrs. Huckaby was born in Oakland, Calif., and lived most of her life in Amarillo. She graduated from Tascosa High School in 1981. In 1985 she moved to Portland, Ore., where she had worked as a data entry clerk in the computer industry for 15 years. Survivors include a son, Andrew Casey Huckaby of Portland; her mother, Lana Case of Amarillo; her stepmother, Patricia Huckaby of Amarillo; a brother, William Huckaby of Mesa, Ariz.; and two stepsisters, Kim Barrow and Anna Slaughter, both of Amarillo. She moved from Wichita Falls to Amarillo in 1944 and retired from Sears in 1978. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church and the Sears Retired Employees Association. She married Howard Bacon in 1936 at Wichita Falls. He died in 1993. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Elaine Bacon, in 1943. Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Pittman and Robbie Gamblin, both of Amarillo; a son, Howard Bacon of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2:20 p.m. Friday in Dreamland Cemetery at Canyon by Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas. Mrs. Downing was born in Wildorado and was a longtime resident of Canyon before moving to Dumas two years ago. A homemaker, she was co-owner and operator of a dairy farm from 1948 until 1973. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Canyon. She married Neil Downing in 1935 at Borger. He died in 1988. Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Locke of Midland, Elaine Winters of Amarillo, Nancy Stone of Dumas and Linda Johnson of Houston; two sons, Allen Downing and Mike Downing, both of Big Spring; a sister, Billie Todd of Gainesville; two brothers, Truman Price of Alvin and Pat Price of Gainesville; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She graduated from Clayton High School in 1942. She worked at Star Lumber Co. from 1968 to 1980 and was a member of First United Methodist Church. She married Fayne J. Wilkes in 1945. He died in 1967. She married J.B. Edwards in 1982. He died in 1989. She also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Candace Jane Wilkes, in 1946. Mr. Hand was born in Tuscumbia, Ala., and moved to Spearman a year ago from Batesville, Ark. A recipient of the Bronze Star, he served with the Army during World War II and the Korean War. An Army veteran of World War II, he retired as a refinery operator from Phillips Petroleum. He was a member of the Methodist Church, where he served as head usher and on the finance committee. He married Margaret Lavon "Mardy" Sherman in 1951 at Perryton. She died in 1991. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Viewing will be at the funeral home. Mrs. Morrow was born in Wellington and lived in the McLean area 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Morrow; and by a daughter, Margie Lee Shannon. He married Nora Frances Richerson in 1930 at Altus, Okla. She died in 1993. James McLeod, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Young was born in Hollis, Okla. She attended school in Junction. In 1941 she moved to the Loco community, where she was post mistress for six years and a member of Loco Home Demonstration Club. She was a 1950 census numerator in Collingsworth County and worked 15 years as a bookkeeper for Steve Owens. She married Tiffin Young in 1927 at Paducah. They farmed and owned Jay's Cafe in Wellington. He died in 1995. Mrs. Young was a former member of the Drove of Does in Childress and a member of the Business & Professional Women's Club and First Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Helen Crowder of Fort Worth and Treva Fike of Amarillo; two sons, W.T. Young and Glen Young, both of Corpus Christi; a sister, Myrtle Hough of Lubbock; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Mr. Hebert was born in Independence, La. He was a lifetime resident of Louisiana until moving to Shamrock in September. He was a construction worker and a Catholic. Billy Holland of First Christian Church of Stinnett officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Serenity at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Mayes was born in Dover, Okla. He was a carpenter's mate third class of the Navy during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign 76th Construction Battalion. He moved to Borger in 1950 and retired after 35 years as a shift superintendent from Phillips Copolymer Plant. Mr. Mayes was a member of First Christian Church and Adobe Walls Masonic Lodge No. 1355. A 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, he also was a member of Borger York Rite Bodies and the Khiva Shrine. He was past president of the Borger Shrine Club and the Tri-City Scottish Rite Association and Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 811. He married Billie Thompson in 1947 at Enid, Okla. Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary Mayes of Austin; two daughters, Cathy Argo and Renee McKinney, both of Austin; two brothers, Louis Mayes of Norfolk, Neb., and Donald Mayes of Kingfisher, Okla.; three sisters, Nona Tatom of Post Falls, Idaho, Vera Bean of Athens, Ohio and Neva Varner of Tulsa, Okla.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Blackwell was born in Wood County and had lived in Borger since 1946. She was a member of Gardner Street Chruch of Christ and a housekeeper for Dr. Shadid. She married Roy Elmer Blackwell in 1925 at Anson. He died in 1967. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Sims of Borger; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
