Arturo officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel, 15th Avenue and Martin Road. Miss Watson was born and raised in Amarillo. She graduated from Bowie Middle School and was a sophomore at Caprock High School, where she was in the Careers 2000 program. She worked at the Sonic Drive-In on Washington Street. She was a member of St. Laurence Cathedral. Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Cindy Watson and Braulio Cardova of Amarillo; two sisters, April Hernandez of Amarillo and Lorrie Cardova of the home; four brothers, Jeff Watson, Charles Watson, Victor Cardova, all of the home, and Steven Watson of Amarillo; grandparents, Margarita Hernandez of Amarillo, Miguel Hernandez of Dallas and Gladys Watson of LaGrange, Ga.; and great-grandmothers, Luz Garza and Simnoa DeLarosa, both of Corpus Christi. Franks Delmar J. Franks, 79, of Amarillo, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Field, pastor of Southeast Baptist Church, officiating. Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 26 will render military honors. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Franks was born in Amarillo. He served in the Navy during World War II. He worked as a civilian master electrician at the Amarillo Air Force Base until it closed. He then worked at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio before returning to Amarillo to work for Bell Helicopter until his retirement. He was a Methodist. Mr. Franks married Opal B. Brown in 1950 at Clovis, N.M. She died on Sept. 20. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Opal Marie Evans, in 1987. Survivors include two grandchildren, Walter W. Evans and Rebecca Evans-Anton, both of Houston. Amarillo Daily News, Sept. 28, 2000 Glenda S. McAlister Glenda S. McAlister, 65, of Amarillo, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000. Osage St. Mrs. McAlister was born in Clarendon and moved to Amarillo in 1966. She worked at Mesa Verde Elementary School in food service. She married Paul McAlister in 1953. He died in 1980. She also was preceded in death by a son, Paul Dwayne McAlister, in 1956. Survivors include two daughters, Susan McPherson of Amarillo and LaDonna Cameron of Amarillo; two sons, W. Glenn McAlister and Tony McAlister, both of Amarillo; four sisters, Peggy Harrill of Ballinger, Charlene Reynolds of Amarillo, Annell Stokes of Pampa and Patricia McAnear of Clarendon; a brother, Jack Owens of Clarendon; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mr. Ramirez was born in Salamanca, Mexico. He had lived in Canadian for 60 years and moved to Amarillo five years ago. he was a chef for the railroad. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canadian. He was preceded in death by his wife, Apolonia Esquivel, in 1998. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Knight, in 1985. Survivors include a daughter, Annie Ortega of Amarillo; a son, Ray Ramirez of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; 22 greatgrandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. He married Pascuala Garcia Delgado in 1971. Amarillo Daily News, Sept. 28, 2000 Oklahoma Samuel Sheldon Matter HOOKER, Okla. - Samuel Sheldon "Sammie" Matter, 87, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, in Edmond. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kim Domnick and the Rev. Ed Cook officiating. Arrangements are by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Matter was born northwest of Hooker and was a longtime area resident. He was valedictorian of Hooker High School, graduating in 1931. He also attended Panhandle A&M College at Goodwell. He was a farmer, a 32nd Degree Mason, a past master of the lodge in Hooker and Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member and assisted in the construction of the United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Texas County Committee of the Farmer's Home Administration and the Hooker Lions Club. Mr. Matter married Helen Ann Duncan in 1933 at Guymon. Survivors include his wife; a son, Billy Joe Matter; two daughters, Peggy Ann Johnson and Lois June Vostral; a sister, Ivy; nine grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren. Services are pending at Rose Hills Memorial Park Mortuary at Whittier. Arrangements are by Ullrey Memorial Chapel Inc. Mrs. Jagger was born in Arcadia, Neb. She had lived in Yuba City for the past five years. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Church in Downey, where she also taught Sunday school. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. Jagger. Survivors include a son, Will Jagger of Browns Valley; two daughters, Betty Kraft of South Gate and Blanche Goodman of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-greatgrandchildren. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. McClary was born in Dumas and was a lifelong resident of Moore County. He retired in 1996 as field operator for Phillips Petroleum. He was a member of the Sixth and Meredith Church of Christ. He married Nancy Berry in 1952 at Clayton, N.M. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janice West and Stephanie Christie, both of Dumas; a son, John McClary of Dumas; a brother, David McClary of Portales, N.M.; three sisters, Billie Dora Young of Dumas, Mary Margaret Sharman of Amarillo and Jackie Brewster of Granbury; and three grandchildren. Todd Dyess, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Kivlehen was born in Miami. He graduated from Miami High School and attended college in New Mexico. He was an air traffic controller for the Army Air Corps. He was an accountant at Phillips Petroleum in the 1940s. He had been office manager for Culberson Stowers and an accountant at Panhandle Equipment, retiring in 1978. Mr. Kivlehen was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge in Miami and the Texas Panhandlers RV Club. He married Leona Taylor in 1969 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael Kivlehen of Houston and Melvin Romine of The Woodlands; three daughters, Katherine Miller of Littleton, Colo., Mary Ellen Coomer of Amarillo and Martha Sue Madison of Gunnison, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She had owned a grocery store and a school store and had also worked in the dry cleaning business. She moved to Amarillo in 1978 from Escondido, Calif., and then to Claude in 1990. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She married George W. Flowers in 1929. He died in 1932. She married Alva Hall in 1952. He died in 1992. She also was preceded in death by a son, James B. Flowers, in 1982. Survivors include two daughters, Frankie Davis of Claude and Imogene Dodd of Selma, Calif.; three sisters, Cecil Psuik of San Francisco, Lillian Norton of Hemet, Calif., and Ruby Strickland of Mustang, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-greatgrandchildren. She graduated from Randolph High School. She was a homemaker and past owner of Merle Norman Studio in Dimmitt. She was a member and former Sunday school teacher of the First Baptist Church. She married C.A. "Shorty" Hance in 1930 at Durant, Okla. He died in 1989. She also was preceded in death by a son, Harry Hance. Survivors include two daughters, Saundra Honea of Plano and Martha Rhynes of Sherman; three sisters, Phoebe Claborn of Dimmitt, Dacy Webster of Mabank and Dale Madison of Savoy; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Tobias was born in Electra. She had served as Cottle County Judge and Cottle County Clerk. She had lived in Cee Vee for 20 years, moving to Paducah and then to Childress in 1987. She was a member of the Childress Church of Christ. She married Edgar Tobias in 1962 at Vernon. He died in 1998. She also was preceded by a daughter, Joy Denise Tobias. Survivors include two daughters, Jill Chapman of Andrews Air Force Base, Md., and Brenda Ward of Amarillo; a son, Ray Tobias of Midland; two sisters, Jeanene Johnston and Charlene Smith, both of Childress; a brother, Troy Riddell of Cee Vee; and six grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Sept. 28, 2000 Bacilio Contreras TULIA - Bacilio Contreras, 77, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, in Amarillo. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Calvary Baptist Church with Alejander Vasquez, deacon of La Primera Mision Bautista, and the Rev. Don Hill, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home. Mr. Contreras was born in San Benito. He was a longtime resident of Tulia. He was a farmer and rancher. He later worked in the construction of and for Excel at Plainview. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He married Jovita Rodriguez in 1946 at Carrizo Springs. She died in 1992. He also was preceded in death by his second wife, Juanita Garcia, in March;and by a son, Bacilio Contreras Jr., in 1967. Survivors include three daughters, Paula Hall and Anna Garibay, both of Amarillo and Helen Vallier of Tulia; a son, David Contreras of Amarillo; three brothers, Juan Contreras and Jose Contreras, both of Tulia and Margarito Contreras of Illinois; a sister, Felicita Rodriguez of Carrizo Springs; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Desta Dr., Midland, TX 79705. The family will be at 511 N. Collins.
