Dodson Bobby C. Dodson, 59, of Amarillo, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Citizens Cemetery at Clarendon with Patrick Brown, minister, officiating. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Dodson was born in Clovis, N.M., and moved to Amarillo in 1948. After graduating from Amarillo High School in 1958 and from Texas A&M University in 1962, he attended graduate school at the University of North Carolina. He served with the Air Force from 1964 until 1966. From 1966 until 1972, he worked in advertising at the Philadelphia Inquirer. In 1972, he returned to Amarillo. He was a Baptist. Survivors include two sons, David Dodson of Washington D.C., and Scott Dodson of New York City; three brothers, Wilburn Dodson and Billy Dodson, both of Amarillo and Jimmy Douglas Dodson of Albuquerque, N.M. The family suggests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 30, 2000 Calvin Johnson Calvin Johnson, 74, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Stephen United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry Lowe, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery with military rites by D.A.V. Chapter No. 28. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Johnson was born in Crowell and had lived in Amarillo since 1966. A graduate of Abernathy High School, he served with the Navy during World War II. He was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church. He owned and operated a trucking business until his retirement. He was a former member of Woodmen of the World. He married LaRue Campbell in 1944 at San Diego. Survivors include his wife; a son, Bill Johnson of Amarillo; a daughter, Sandy Crawford of Amarillo; three brothers, Jerry Johnson of Fort Worth, Jack Johnson of La Grange and Don Johnson of Kemp; two sisters, Janelle Hobbins of Shiner and Janice McKinney of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. Georgia St. Mr. Henson was born in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1964. During the 1970s and 1980s, he worked with the Maverick Wrestling Club. A member of Quail Unlimited, he was president of the Amarillo Bird Dog Club and on the board of directors for the West Texas Region of National Shoot to Retrieve Association. He was a Mason, a member of the Mule Skinners in the Khiva Shrine Temple and a Baptist. He married Patty Farley in 1965 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Darrell Van Henson Jr. of Amarillo and H. Marc Henson of Wichita, Kan.; his mother, Mary Henson of Amarillo; a sister, Sharon Burney of Amarillo; a brother, Jim Henson of Farmersville; and two grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Southwest Baptist Church in Amarillo with the Rev. Gary Kellison, pastor of Bethel Assembly Church in Amarillo, the Rev. Mike Green of Wichita, Kan., and the Rev. Jerry Stewart, pastor of First Baptist Church in Stratford, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mr. Hobgood was born in Lubbock and graduated from Happy High School in 1991. He worked as a carpet layer and was a member of First Baptist Church in Happy. He married Christy Moore in 1999 at Amarillo. Lacy and Jacob were both born in Amarillo and were students at Rex Reeves Elementary School in Canyon. Mr. Hobgood is survived by his wife; his mother, Batty Hobgood of Happy; his father and stepmother, Charles and Dorothy Hobgood of Amarillo; his grandmother, Ruby Ready of Justin; two sisters, Gay Lynn Badde of Austin and Jorene Whorton of Bulverde; and three stepbrothers, Marc Bonds and Matt Bonds, both of Amarillo, and Mike Bonds of Canyon. Mr. Russ was born in Knox City. He earned an associates degree in applied science from at Amarillo College. A member of the Maverick Boys Club of Amarillo, he was a world class gymnast and was invited to the Pan-Am games in 1963 for the Olympic trials. He worked for Jon Lair Realtors. Mr. Russ married Sherry Cox in 1964 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Tonja Blevins of Canyon; a son, Thomas Shane Russ of Texas; two sisters, Patsy Wurster and Carol Hughes, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a granddaughter, Chaise Baker. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 30, 2000 Elsewhere Z.V. Reinhardt GARDEN VALLEY - Z.V. Reinhardt, 81, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, in Tyler. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Hillard Funeral Home Chapel in Van with the Rev. Reggie Day and Brother James Rutledge officiating. Burial will be in Garden Valley Cemetery. Mr. Reinhardt was born in Garden Valley, where he was a member of Garden Valley Baptist Church. In 1957, he retired from the Army. From 1936 until 1942, he served with the 7th Horse Cavalry. He then served in the European Theatre during World War II. He served during the Korean War and received a Silver Star with oak leaf cluster. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His first wife, Vivian Ayers, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Merlyn Inez Reinhardt; three sisters, Joyce Backs of Amarillo, Frances Ellison DuBose of Van and Narnie Buchanan of Mount Sylvan; two stepsons, Billie Dutton of Garden Valley and Jimmy Dutton of Arlington; seven step-grandchildren; and 21 step-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 30, 2000 Gladys L. Turner LUBBOCK - Gladys L. Turner, 87, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, in Borger. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Indiana Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Anderson, Dr. Tom Bagwell and the Rev. John Ballard officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park by Resthaven Funeral Home. Mrs. Turner was born in Azle and was a homemaker. From 1942 until 1991, she lived in Lubbock, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of First Baptist Church and a charter member of Indiana Avenue Baptist Church. In 1999, she moved to Borger, where she was a member of Keeler Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Bagwell of Austin and Patricia Anderson of Borger; three sons, Jim Turner of Houston and Wayne Turner and Roy Turner, both of Lubbock; a brother, Billy Joe Gregory of Taylor; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 30, 2000 Area Roy W. Eckles CANADIAN - Roy W. "Doc" Eckles, 94, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000. Services were at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Church of Christ with Mike Heatwole officiating. Burial was in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mr. Eckles was born in Cooke County and lived in Wheeler before moving to Hemphill County in 1924. A farmer, he worked for Canadian Grain Co-op and was a member of Church of Christ. He married Josephine Keeton in 1937 at Wheeler. She died in 1985. Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Bee Eckles of Denton and Bert Eckles of Canadian; three brothers-in-law, Glen Keeton of Plainview, J.P. Mr. Thompson was born in Mount Calm and moved to the Panhandle in 1944. After retiring from the Army in 1969, he returned to Dalhart. He was a member of Denver Avenue Church of Christ. He married Charlene Pearl Williamson in 1953 at Dalhart. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Danny Harold Thompson of Honey Grove, Alfred Benjamin Thompson of Ropesville and Robert Thompson and William Jacob Thompson, both of Dalhart; five daughters, Diana Marie Lynch and Christine Pearl Day, both of Austin, Peggy Jean McDonald of Fort Worth, Nancy Lynn Lackey of Brownwood and Judy Machille White of Lubbock; two brothers, Kenneth Thompson of Florida and Roy Gene Thompson of Dalhart; 25 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Freudiger was born in Childress. A homemaker, she lived in Vernon and Wichita Falls before moving to Lubbock. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Vernon. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Kay Price of Katy; two sons, Mark Freudiger of Lubbock and Gary Freudiger of Amarillo; a brother, J.W. Atkins of Costa Mesa, Calif.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 30, 2000 Melvin David McCabe MCLEAN - Melvin David "Mac" McCabe, 86, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in McLean Church of Christ. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery with military honors. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home of Hereford. Mr. McCabe was born in Montague County and moved to McLean with his family in 1928. After serving in Algeria, French Morocco and Tunisia with the Army during World War II, he returned to McLean and worked as an engineer for Warren Petroleum until his retirement. He was a member of McLean Church of Christ, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8565 and the Country Corner Morning Coffee Club. He married Grace Bidwell in 1947 in Amarillo. She died in 1997. Survivors include a son, John Robert McCabe of Amarillo; and five grandsons. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Mrs. Scott was born in Nolan County and had lived in Morton since 1938. She graduated as salutatorian from Morton High School in 1949. A homemaker, she was a member of First Baptist Church and the Mary Martha Sunday school class. She married G.R. "Bob" Scott in 1950 at Morton. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Doug Scott of Coleman and Steve Scott of Seminole; a daughter, Susan Lamb of Morton; her mother, Pearl Kelly of Morton; a brother, Alvin Kelly of Midland; and seven grandchildren.
