Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Todd Dyess, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Mrs. Smith was born in Dodge City, Kan., and had lived in Pampa since 1957. She earned a master's degree in chemistry from the University of California at Los Angeles. She was a bookkeeper and a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She married Ronald G. Smith in 1970 at Clayton, N.M. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sandra L. Johnson of Pampa; a stepdaughter, Brenda Rathgeber of Woodward, Okla.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Pampa Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 939, Pampa, TX 79066-0939. QUANAH - Audine Lucy Stokes, 87, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Price-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clinton Young, minister of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park. Mrs. Stokes was born in Chattanooga, Okla. She lived in Acme and Quanah between 1932 and 1992. She worked for Moses Variety Store. She moved to Livingston in 1992 and returned to Quanah in 1996. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married J.C. Stokes in 1932. He died in 1992. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Kay Burt in 1980; and by a son, Jackie Ray Stokes in 1995. Survivors include a brother, George K. Little of Anadarko, Okla.; two sisters, Selma Williams of Coppell and Fleta Mae Blackburn of Bethany, Okla.; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. PERRYTON - Gary Lynn Payne, 55, died Aug. 30, 2000. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marlon Sparks officiating. Burial will be at Ochiltree Cemetery. Mr. Payne was born in Perryton and was a lifelong resident. He was a horse trainer. Survivors include his brother, Jerry M. Payne of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Darlene Cawthorn of Leander, Grace Eagle and Shirley McClure, both of Perryton. The family suggests that memorials be to a favorite charity. BORGER - Ronnie Hill, 52, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, in Amarillo. No services are planned. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors. Mr. Hill was born in Gorman and had lived in Borger for 27 years. He retired as an operator from Phillips Petroleum Co., Plains Plant. He was a Baptist. He married Shirley Alford in 1967 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bodie Hill of Amarillo and Matt Hill of Borger; a daughter, Roxanne Hill of Borger; a brother, Paul David Hill of Dumas; and two granddaughters. The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176-0001. OLTON - Robert Lee Meinecke, 69, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with Sharon Quinn, of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Wood-Dunning Funeral. Mr. Meinecke was born in Plainview. He graduated from Plainview High School and Texas Tech University. He was a farmer and had lived in Olton since 1952. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. He also was a member of the Methodist Church in Olton. He married Toni McCloud in 1985 at Olton. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Jackye Meinecke of Las Cruces, N.M., Sheree Meinecke of Corrales, N.M., Mitzi Rhoads of Corpus Christi and Robin Riley of Sacramento, Calif.; a son, Ray Rohde of Modesto, Calif.; a sister, Margaret Lowe of Plainview; two grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to St. Jude Hospital and Olton Ambulance Association. GRUVER - Jeanette Infelise Bort Vigna, 78, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000. Vigil services will be at 8 p.m. today in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the church with the Rev. Scott Raef officiating. Burial will be in Gruver Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Mrs. Vigna was born in Superior, Wis. She had lived in Gruver for 38 years, moving from northern California. She married A.C. Bort in 1945 at Stockton, Calif. He died in 1996. She married Peter Vigna in 1999 at Spearman. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Art Bort of Amarillo, Bob Bort of Helena, Mont., and Steve Bort of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter, Anne Rasor of Pensacola, Fla.; two stepsons, Frank Vigna of Berkeley, Calif., and Gordon Vigna of Antioch, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Karen Soliz of Pittsburg, Calif.; a brother, John Infelise of Stockton; a sister, Marie Tomei of Stockton; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Travis Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Memphis Funeral Home. Mrs. Morris was born in Hall County and was a lifetime resident of Memphis area. She was a member of the Travis Baptist Church, the Hall County Hospital Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an artist. She married Samuel Kenneth Hawkins in 1945. He died in 1962. She married Charles Morris in 1973. Survivors include her husband; a son, Kenny Hawkins of Odessa; a daughter, Debra Walker of Shamrock; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Sanders Nelson, 37, of Amarillo, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, in Kermit. Services will be private. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Nelson was born in Perryton. She moved to Amarillo in 1972, and graduated from Tascosa High School in 1981. She was an emergency medical technician. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She married Murray Nelson in 1998 at California. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Maria Nelson; a sister; and four brothers. Retha Ann Suthers Godfrey, 88, died on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church in Arnett, Okla. Burial will be at the De Bolt Cemetery by Rose Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Godfrey was born on a ranch near Arnett, Okla. She attended public school in Ellis County. She earned her bachelors degree at Oklahoma A&M and her master's degree at West Texas State Teachers College. She taught for 40 years, and had lived in Amarillo for the past 50 years. She was awarded the R.A. Selby Award in 1977. She attended Polk Street Methodist Church. She married Fredrick H. Godfrey in 1936. He preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by her son, Fredrick C. Godfrey. Survivors include her daughter, Anne Mach of Yukon, Okla.; one son, Richard Godfrey of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a sister, Virginia Bruns of Tulsa, Okla.; and three grandchildren. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers be to the National Stroke Association, 9707 E. Easter Lane, Englewood, CO 80112; or a favorite charity. .D. "Pete" Mainous, 84, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Golden Plains Church of Christ with Paul Camp officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Odessa with Burt Groves of Eisenhower Church of Christ in Odessa officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Mainous was born in Perkins, Okla. He graduated in 1934 from Barnsdall High School at Barnsdall, Okla. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He received two Bronze Stars. He was a drilling superintendent in the oil industry. He was a Mason and a member of the Golden Plains Church of Christ. He moved to Amarillo three years ago. His first wife, Edith Joslin, died in 1965. He married Alice Jett Kutin in 1969 at Odessa. Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Chris Kutin of Amarillo and Alex Kutin of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Jewell Pauline Lewis Robertson, 89, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 3000. Services will be at 10 a.m Friday in the Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. F. M. Byford, of Paramount Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Robertson was born in Lelia Lake. She moved to Amarillo, where she attended high school and Amarillo College. She worked as a secretary and accountant and retired from Edward Jones. She was a charter member of the Paramount Baptist Church, and several other organizations. She received the Memorial Development award from the National Association of Home Builders in 1963, 1964 and 1965. She was a member of the National Association of Female Executives, Financial Planners Association, Amarillo Federation Women's Clubs, Amarillo Country Garden Club and Amarillo Chamber of Commerce. She was past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and president of the Daughters of the Nile, and in the Who's Who of American Women 1991-92. She married Charles A. Robertson in 1950. He died in 1976. She also was preceded by a stepson, Charles A. Robertson Jr. Survivors include three sisters, Alta Lane of Canyon, Louise Howard of Anton, and Lee Reeves of Horseshoe Bay; and a stepson, Warren Robertson. The family suggests memorials be for a favorite charity. BLAIR, Okla. - Loren Cargal, 76, of Dallas and formerly of Blair, died Monday, Aug. 28. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery. Arrangements are by Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home of Lone Wolf. Mr. Cargal was born in Blair, where he attended school. He farmed and worked for Eagle Pitcher Copper Mine in Olustee. During World War II, he served in the Army. He moved to Spring Creek, Texas, in 1977 and in 1986 he retired and moved to Dallas. He married Ina Merle Whitlow in 1948. She died in April. Survivors include three sons, Lynn Pruitt of Lake Worth, Texas, Ken Cargal of Turpin and Tommy Cargal of Dallas; one daughter, Carol Biddy of Amarillo; one brother, Junior Cargal of Altus; one sister, Sue Waggoner of Midland, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. CAMARILLO, Calif. - Velda Jeanne Northern, 53, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Hollywood Hills, in Burbank. Arrangements are by Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary in Camarillo. Ms. Northern was born in Amarillo. She attended Palo Duro High School in Amarillo and finished high school in Fresno. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include her mother, Dorothy Smith Northern of Amarillo; her stepmother and caregiver, Barbara Northern of Camarillo; three brothers, Richard Wayne Northern and Van W.
