O'Hora Richard F. O'Hora, 53, of Amarillo and Charlotte, N.C., died Monday, July 24, 2000. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Thomas Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Heintz Funeral Service. Mr. O'Hora was born and raised in Scranton, Pa. He moved to the Utica, Pa. area and graduated from Notre Dame High School. He attended Syracuse University and Niagara University. He worked for Corporate Systems in Amarillo and he was a Catholic. He married Linda Lytynec in 1975. Survivors include his wife of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Suzanne Cook of Waterville, N.Y., and Marygrace O'Hora Catanzaro of Marlboro, Mass.; two brothers, Terry O'Hora of Biloxi, Miss., and Michael O'Hora of New Hartford, N.Y. Amarillo Daily News, July 31, 2000 Janet Cheryl Conner Janet Cheryl Conner, 43, of Amarillo, died Friday, July 28, 2000. Burial will be in Cortez, Colo., by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel, 15th Avenue and Martin Road. Mrs. Conner was born in Nocona. She had lived in Amarillo for the last 14 years. She worked as a phlebotomist for Physicians Preferred Laboratory. She married Richard Conner in 1975. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Chloe C. Barrios, Brittany S. Conner and Wendy L. Pace, all of Amarillo; a son, Richard R. Conner of Amarillo; her parents, Elton and Betty Exum of Cortez; two sisters, Brenda O'Brien and Landis Porter, both of Cortez; a brother, Dick Keck of Cortez; and six grandchildren. The family will be at 322 Park Ave. Amarillo Daily News, July 31, 2000 Lucy Earle Biggs Lucy Earle Biggs, 84, of Amarillo, died Saturday, July 29, 2000. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with Bob Murphy, retired minister of Paramount Terrace Christian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Biggs was born in Hamilton and was a lifelong resident of Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1936. She was a bookkeeper and had worked for Dunn & Bradstreet and for Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. She was a Presbyterian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Lee Biggs, in 1979; and by a son, Martin Lee Biggs Jr., in 1958. Survivors include a daughter, Jane Deas of Amarillo; two sisters, Jane Wolper and Lynn McManus, both of Arlington; three grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church in Panhandle with Dr. Doug Harvey, of First Christian Church in Panhandle, Dr. Dana Moore, of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Amarillo, and Dr. Jim Perkins of First Baptist Church in Panhandle, officiating. Mr. Biggs was born in Panhandle. He served in the Navy during World War II and also served in the Coast Guard. He farmed in Panhandle before moving to Amarillo in 1980. Mr. Biggs was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church. He also was a member of the Waggs Motor Home Club. He married Maxine Bender in 1948 at Panhandle. She died in 1981. He married Lois Carroll in 1992 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cheryl Ann Biggs Daniel of Amarillo and Jessie Raylene Biggs Pruitt of Canyon; a son, Frank David Biggs of Panhandle; a stepdaughter, Charlotte Riddell of Childress; four stepsons, Gordan Wayne Carroll of Amarillo, Bob J. Carroll of Bossier City, La., Kenneth Carroll of Amarillo and Ricci Carroll of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Virginia Pruitt of Odessa and Myra Mathias of Arlington; two brothers, Harold Biggs and Jim Biggs, both of Panhandle; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Wayne Sheffield of Wheeler Methodist Church at Wheeler officiating. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. today in Wheeler Cemetery at Wheeler. Mr. Sims was born in Dalhart. He graduated from Wheeler High School and attended Texas Tech University and McMurry University. He moved to Lubbock in 1985 from Amarillo. He worked in administration at Cavazos Junior High School. He was a member and past Sunday school teacher at Trinity Church. Survivors include a daughter, Tracy Sims of San Antonio; a son, Steven Sims of Lubbock; his mother, Amelia Sims of Arlington; a brother, Kent Sims of Wheeler; two sisters, Joyce Haddox of Austin and Carolyn Jolly of Arlington; and a granddaughter. Mrs. Caviness was born in Clyde and grew up in Lubbock. She graduated from Lubbock High School. She lived in Plainview from 1950 until 1999, when she moved to Amarillo. She was active in the Senior Citizens in Plainview and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She married E.C. "Tebe" Caviness in 1938 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1987. Survivors include two sons, Jim Caviness of Amarillo and Edmond Carroll Caviness II of Chula Vista, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, July 31, 2000 Vernon McLanahan PERRYTON - Vernon McLanahan, 85, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, in Booker. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Ochiltree County Cemetery with the Rev. Carl Thorell officiating. Arrangements are by Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker. Mr. McLanahan was born in Wolf Creek. He attended a country school, later moving to Roy, N.M. He worked as a cowboy at ranches across the country, including Binion Ranch in Montana and Slaughter Ranch in Texas. In 1978, he returned to Perryton, where he worked at area feedlots. He married Dorothy Jo Powell in 1936 at Arnett, Okla. She died in 1988. Survivors include a daughter, Vernona Devers of Booker; a sister Leona Boland of Guymon, Okla.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Twin Oaks Manor or a favorite charity. Amarillo Daily News, July 31, 2000 E.E. Thurman PLAINVIEW - E.E. "Buddy" Thurman, 66, died Saturday, July 29, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Max Browning, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mr. Thurman was born in Haskell and grew up in Chillicothe, where he attended schools. He moved to Hale County in 1943. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1951. He worked as a mechanic and as a body-man for W.T. Cain and for Winn Motor Co. He had been a service manager for Jack Morris since 1977. He was a pilot and had earned commercial, instrument, multi-engine and sea plane ratings. He was a member of the AOPA, EEA Chapter No. 302 in Conroe and held a ham radio license. He was on the Northwest Texas Emergency Ham Net, was a licensed scuba instructor with PADA and raced motorcycles. Mr. Thurman served six years in the Texas National Guard and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He married Charlotte Wimp in 1952 at Swisher County. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carla Edwards of Plainview; a son, Don Thurman of Plainview; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the American Heart Association or a favorite charity. Amarillo Daily News, July 31, 2000 Jackie Jackson MIAMI - Jackie "Ma'am" Jackson, 68, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, in Canadian. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Jack Gindorf, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors in Canadian. Mrs. Jackson was born in Cheyenne, Okla. She graduated from Cheyenne High School and attended Southwest Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. She moved to Miami in 1957. She worked for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. She was a secretary for the Roberts County-District Clerk's office, later serving as the district clerk, retiring in 1995. She attended First Christian Church and played the piano and organ. She married Wilford Hill "Pater" Jackson. He died in 1995. Survivors include two daughters, Triska Gross of Eunice, N.M., and Tammye Maple of Pampa; two sons, William Jackson and Wade Jackson, both of Miami; and seven grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing until 8 p.m. today and Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Amarillo Daily News, July 31, 2000 Alberta O. Mr. Larned was born in Hedrick, Okla. He worked for the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad and then owned and operated a mechanic shop. He married Pansy Sarah Mallory in 1939 at Childress. Survivors include his wife; two daughter, Linda Larned and Billie Sloan; two sons, Don Larned and Johnny Larned; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Mr. Ellis was born in Brown County. He moved to Hale County at an early age and was a lifelong resident. He was a farmer and rancher. He married Lorene Stuckey in 1931 at Clovis, N.M. She died in 1992. Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Grace Sylvester and Kay Todd, both of Plainview; a son, Grady Don Ellis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three sisters, Cleo Long of Plainview, Gladys Hampton of Olton and Bonnie Chastain of Brownwood; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Randy White, pastor, and the Rev. John Glover, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by CarmichaelWhatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Johnson was born in Memphis. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1938 and attended Amarillo College. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II at North Africa, Corsica, Italy and Austria. He was a master sergeant and sergeant major for the 320th air service group of the 12th Air Force. He retired as a manager after 45 years from Cabot-Ingersoll Rand in 1984. Mr. Johnson was past president of Meals on Wheels, Pampa Senior Citizens, Pampa Top of Texas Kiwanis Club and the Pampa Knife and Fork Club. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He also was a member of the Pampa Camp of Gideons International, and was a deacon and former Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church. He married Evelyn Morehead in 1946 at Pampa. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. Jay Johnson of Pampa; three daughters, Dr. Jodi Taylor of Colorado Springs, Colo., Janis Spearman of Pampa and Mary Beth Rafferty of Plano; a sister, Lois DeMerritt of El Paso; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Burial will be in the Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home. Mrs. Castleberry was born in Lakeview. She attended Wheeler schools, living in Wheeler from 1963 until moving to Pampa in 1972. She moved to Perryton in 1991. She worked for the Marie Foundations and for the Senior Village in Perryton. She married Willie Wallace Castleberry in 1949 at Pampa. He died in 1994. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Ann Castleberry, in 1951. Survivors include three daughters, Diana Lee Parker of Forgan, Okla., Mary Brown of Decherd, Tenn., and Patricia Vigil of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
