Graveside services were at 2 p.m. MST Friday in Carlsbad Cemetery at Carlsbad, N.M., with the Rev. Craig C. Cockrell, minister of First United Methodist Church in Carlsbad, officiating. Arrangements were by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 15th Avenue and Martin Road. Mrs. Jones was born in Durant, Okla., and moved to Amarillo in 1984 from Spearman. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mae Owens of Elk City, Okla.; a son, M. David Stewart of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Feb. 3, 2001 Joyce McCutchen Smith Joyce McCutchen Smith, 81, of Hereford and formerly of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, in Laredo. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today in Kings Manor Methodist Home at Hereford with the Rev. Bob Miller, pastor of South Georgia Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell St. Mrs. Smith was born in Sanger and graduated from Sanger High School. She married Wayne McCutchen in 1937 and they lived in Silverton. They moved to Amarillo in 1968. He preceded her in death. She married LeRoy Smith in 1975 and he died in 1988. She spent summers in Zapata and had lived in Hereford for the past 18 months. She was a member of the South Georgia Baptist Church, where she attended the Adult Ladies Sunday school class. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include a son, Richard McCutchen of Wichita Falls; two daughters, Joy Bunch of Hereford and Waynelle Ariz. He died in 1982. She moved to Amarillo in 1983 and was a member of the Catholic Church. Survivors include a son, Louie Clark of Amarillo. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Tucker David D. Tucker, 77, of Amarillo, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Murray Gossett, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Tucker was born in Amarillo and was a lifetime resident. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1941 and attended Amarillo College until joining the Navy during World War II. After the war, he graduated from the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Tucker was an electrical engineer. He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and the Rotary Clubs in Amarillo and Pampa, having served as president of the Pampa club. He was a founding member of the Parkinson's Disease Association and an elder at the First Presbyterian Church. In 1962, he married Sue Kuyendall. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linny Green of Amarillo; a sister, Elizabeth Paxton of Amarillo; her twin brother, Gilderoy Tucker of Dallas; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Ninth Ave. Mr. Wilson was born at Valley View and moved to Amarillo in 1957. He was a contractor and served during World War II as a Marine. He was married to Minnie Williams in 1936 at Valley View. She died in 1990. He also was preceded in death by a son, Curtis Wilson, in 1979, and a daughter, Helen Bryan in 1997. Mrs. Foster was born in Forestburg, Texas, and moved to Clovis in 1953. She was a homemaker and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post No. 3015 and of Cooties. She was of the Assembly of God faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ezra Foster, in 1978. In 1932, she married Erving Charles Heying at Cement. He died in 1982. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Methodist Church. Mrs. Heying moved to Castle Rock seven years ago from Clovis. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Shown of Castle Rock and Jean Akin of Kansas; three sisters, Ethel Ridley, Dorothy Love and Ann Chaparro; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. Mrs. Lawless was born in Shreveport, La., and was a legal secretary at several law firms. She moved to Clovis in 1996 and was a Methodist. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Lawless. Survivors include a nephew, Oatley Adams of Houston; two nieces, Margaret Heck of Clovis and Florence Adams of Corpus Christi, Texas; and two great-nephews and a great-niece. Amarillo Daily News, Feb. 3, 2001 Oklahoma Eva R. Harmon GUYMON, Okla. - Eva R. Harmon, 98, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with Neville Buchanan, minister of the Hooker Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mrs. Harmon was born south of Bigelow, Kan. She attended the Country School District 76 and graduated from Irving High School in Irving, Kan., in 1921. She studied music at Phillips University in Enid and taught music in Marshall County, Kan. She was matron of the girls at the Christian Orphanage in St. Louis. In 1982, she moved to Guymon from Council Grove, Kan., and attended the Church of Christ. She was married to Rex A. Harmon in 1926 at Blue Rapids, Kan. He died in 1982. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Peacock of Guymon; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren. The family suggest memorials be to Amarillo High Plains Children's Home. Memorials will be accepted at the funeral home. Amarillo Daily News, Feb. 3, 2001 Elsewhere Edwin Churchill O'Brien Jr. RICHMOND, Va. - Edwin Churchill O'Brien Jr., 67, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001. A private memorial service will be held in the spring at Barry Cemetery in Barry, Ill. Cremation and arrangements are by Cremation Society of Virginia. Mr. O'Brien was born and raised in Barry. He attended the University of Illinois and graduated from Western Illinois University. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in post-war Germany. He was a project engineer. He was a member of the Sigma Tau fraternity and USGA. Mr. O'Brien was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Eileen Stash, in 1997. Survivors include three sisters, Marian Campbell of Sarasota, Fla., Marty Schantz of Amarillo and Francy McKee of Normal, Ill. In 1946, he married Dora Alkire in Canyon. A resident of Floydada since 1959, Mr. Miller farmed and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bowen, 66, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Foster, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Mr. Bowen was born in Atoka County, Okla. He had lived in Spearman for 42 years, moving from Sunray. In 1955, he married Veleta Lackey at Sunray. He was a pipeline corrosion technician for Northern Natural Gas Co. / Enron, retiring in 1999. He was a charter member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Terrie Goins of Sparta, Mo., and Carrie Ceniceros of Spearman; two sons, Larry Bowen of Lubbock and Earnest Bowen of Amarillo; three brothers, John Timothy Bowen of Tioga, William Howard Bowen of Wardville, Okla., and James Edward Bowen of Sunray; a sister, Zena Faye McDonald of Spearman; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. "Bill" Cook, 69, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Edith Ford Cemetery at Canadian with the Rev. Jim Powell, pastor of Hobart Baptist Church in Pampa, officiating. Arrangements are by CarmichaelWhatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Cook was born in Bryan County, Okla. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1947. In 1954, he married Helen Ann Hornback at Clovis, N.M. She died in 1998. He was a self-employed mechanic, owning and operating Cook's Garage. He worked with the Boy Scouts, earning the Silver Beaver Award. He was a Hobart Baptist Church member. Survivors include four sons, Billy Don Cook of Eureka, Calif., Donnie Frank Jones of Big Spring, Johnny Thomas Cook of Pampa and Carl Lindsey Cook of Abilene; a daughter, Debbie Darby of Pampa; five sisters, Betty Sue Shipley, Evelyn Anderson and Mary Ann Jennik, all of Sand Springs, Okla., and Georgia Louise McCain and Hattie Ruth Downs, both of Pampa; four brothers, Roy Cook and Johnny Frank Cook, both of Pampa, and Henry Thomas Cook and Jimmy Franklin Cook, both of Tulsa, Okla.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Feb. 3, 2001 Roy J. Crittenden GARDEN GROVE, Calif. - Roy J. Crittenden, 100, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, Fountain Valley. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Connally Compton Funeral Directors Chapel in Waco, Texas. Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery at Waco. Mr. Crittenden was born in Albany, Ga. He was a sergeant major in the Army during World War I and was awarded the French Legion of Heart Medal. In 1965, he retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. He was an elder at the Church of Christ in Amarillo, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a 32nd Degree Mason. In 1922, he married Ida May Cherry. She died in 1961. He married Grace Curlin in 1963. She died in 1996. Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Jimmie Crittenden; a son, Roy Crittenden; and two stepsons, William Curlin and Roy Curlin. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Davis and Joy Webster; two stepdaughters, Geraldine Ledenham and Margaret Powers; two sisters, Ivila Bond and Mary Gaither; seven grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Amarillo Daily News, Feb. 3, 2001 Addison Wesley Cutter PERRYTON - The Rev. Addison Wesley Cutter, 93, of Dallas and formerly of Perryton, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Ulrey, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Cutter was born in Ochiltree County and graduated from Perryton High School in 1924. He attended business college in Chillicothe, Mo., and earned his bachelor of arts and master of divinity degrees from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He also performed professionally in Dallas summer musicals. In Perryton, he had worked for an attorney, the abstract and county clerk's office and the First National Bank. A Navy chaplain, he was later an associate pastor at First Methodist Church in Oklahoma City and taught Bible courses at Oklahoma City University. He served at Methodist churches in Oklahoma and in Texas and helped organize the Northaven Methodist Church in Dallas. Mr. Cutter was associate editor of the Texas Methodist newspaper and chaplain to Goodwill Industries in Dallas. After retiring, he moved to Hide-A-Way Lake and was instrumental in establishing the Hide-A-Way Country News, serving as editor. He returned to Dallas and was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church. He was author of "Town of Ochiltree," published in 1988. Mr. Cutter was married to Louise Garrett in 1928 at Perryton. She died in 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Madolyn Cutter of Lake Dallas.
