Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Christian Church. Officiants are the Rev. Bob Sweeten, pastor of First Christian Church, the Rev. Jerry Stewart, pastor of First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Mark Metzger, pastor of First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Taylor was a lifetime resident of Stratford. He was a junior at Stratford High School. He was born Aug. 24, 1983, at Amarillo. He was a member of the Big Blue Band, the National Honor Society and the gifted and talented program. He was manager and trainer for three years for the basketball and football teams. The basketball team was state runner-up and the football team was 2000 state champion. Mr. Taylor served as vice president of his junior class and had been elected president of the senior class and student body. He participated in UIL and qualified for regionals in his sophomore year. He was named in Who's Who in American High School Students and Who's Who in Science his sophomore year. He also was active and led youth groups in his church. In June he attended the American Legion Texas Boys State. He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Jim Taylor, on Feb. 29, 1996. Survivors include his parents, Joe and Cathy Taylor of Stratford; a brother, Jordan Taylor of Stratford; grandparents, Helen Taylor of Stratford and Verna and Fred Cross of Stephenville; a great-grandmother, Maudie Vance of Amarillo; aunts and uncles, Mary Sue and Marvin Cotton, Micky and Beth Cross, Jim and Olivia Cross and Tom Cross; and seven first-cousins. The family will be at 1305 N. Chestnut in Stratford. The family suggests memorials be to the Erich Taylor Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o First State Bank of Stratford and Dalhart. Amarillo Globe-News July 3, 2001 Juanita Gowin QUITAQUE - Juanita Gowin, 78, of Hale Center, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, in Plainview. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church of Quitaque with the Rev. Charlie Styce and Woody Posey officiating. Burial will be in Flomot Cemetery of Flomot by Myers-Long Funeral Directors of Quitaque. Mrs. Gowin was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Bonita. She passed away on July 1, 2001, at Plainview, at the age of 78 years, eight months and 22 days. She married Games Gowin. He died in 1988. She also was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Wayne Gowin, in 1978; and by a daughter, Betty Ann Johnston, in 1993. Survivors include a son, James Gowin of Plattsburg, Mo.; a daughter, Linda Fowler of Plainview; five brothers, James Reed of Hominy, Okla., E.G. Reed of Flomot, George Reed of Silverton, Leo Reed of Amarillo and Cecil Reed of Whitesboro; two sisters, Elizabeth McDonald of Pampa and Alma Monk of Uvalde; 10 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Steward had been a resident of Pampa since 1929. She was a member of the Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ. Survivors include three daughters, Atha Belle Lee of Pampa, Mary Jo Rawls of Fort Worth and Ruth Helen Jordan of San Angelo; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, July 3, 2001 Marion Thomas Mounsey - Marion Thomas "Bus" Mounsey, 86, died Thursday, June 28, 2001. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Booker Friends Church. The body was donated to medical science. Arrangements are by Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker. Mr. Mounsey was born Feb. 8, 1915, in Booker, to Thomas and Minnie Howard Mounsey. During World War II he served with the 3rd Division of the Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater and the Battle of Iwo Jima. Survivors include his wife, Naomi; two sons, Barrie Mounsey of Booker and Tommy Mounsey of Amarillo; a daughter, Gloriadel Coltart of San Mateo, Calif.; a sister, Annie Corkill of Winfield, Kans.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Booker School scholarship funds; the Ricky Jergenson Scholarship Fund; or a favorite charity. Michael Arndt of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home. Charlotte Czewski married S.A. Walling on June 2, 1927, in Cleburne. The Czewski family was one of the pioneer families to Childress. Survivors include a sister, Katheryne McGhee of Childress. Amarillo Globe-News, July 3, 2001 Amarillo Nettie Jewell Alvarez Nettie Jewell Alvarez, 61, of Amarillo, died Sunday, July 1, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Trinity Fellowship Church with the Rev. Phil Mercado, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Ms. Alvarez was raised in Clarendon. She managed the restaurant at the Grand Bowl for about three years. She attended Trinity Fellowship Church. She was a loving homemaker and devoted mother and grandmother. Ms. Alvarez was preceded in death by her 2-month-old daughter, Tina Marie Alvarez, in 1958. Survivors include a husband, Celestino Alvarez Sr., from whom she was separated; a daughter, Christina Clifton of Amarillo; two sons, Tino Alvarez Jr. of Lubbock and Tony Alvarez of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, James Loffler of Fremont, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Burial will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Urban was a retired senior master sergeant in the Air Force. He loved golf and seldom missed a tournament. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in the First Baptist Church with Billy Rammage officiating. Burial will be in Willowbar Cemetery by Cimarron Mortuary of Boise City. Mrs. Bolin was born Oct 5, 1915, in Mayetta, Kan., to the late Joseph Israel and Nannie Catherine Roberson Melenson. She married Lewis Bolin on Aug. 5, 1936. Survivors include two sons, Karlan Bolin of Suisun City, Calif., and Ronald Joe Bolin of Keyes; a daughter, Janice Seggern of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church in Keyes. Memorials may be left in care of the mortuary. David Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Peaceful Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Johnson served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Hobby in the Pacific Theater. He owned Jay's Garage in Amarillo in the mid-1950s. Survivors include his wife; four sons, James Johnson of Tulsa, Okla., Jay Johnson of Amarillo, Lamar Johnson of Nashville, Tenn., and David Lawson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a daughter, Arlene McGlone of Norman, Okla.; two brothers, Charles Johnson of Amarillo and Larry Johnson of Holly Lake Farms; two sisters, Ruby Farrar of Amarillo and Jean Brownlow of Wellington; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to South Plains Ostomy Association or Southcrest Baptist Church building fund.
