Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Brown's Chapel of the Fountains with Dr. Winfred Moore, visiting distinguished professor of religion at Baylor University in Waco, and the Rev. Gregg Simmons officiating. Burial was at 1 p.m. in Westlawn Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors. Mrs. Turner went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Sept. 26. She was born July 16, 1909, in Octavia, Okla., to Edward Wilson and Edna Smith Wilson. She married Edward Kelly Turner on Dec. 20, 1930. She graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma College in Durant with a master's degree in education. She was a high school teacher for many years. She and her husband moved to Borger in 1946. They later teamed together and operated the Ed Turner Agency for over 30 years. She was active in numerous volunteer and civic organizations and held many offices in the 20th Century Club. She taught the ladies' Dorcas Sunday school class at First Baptist Church of Borger for many years. She was a homemaker. Casket bearers were William Griffin, Jeff Griffin, John Bayless, Mark Dill, Roy Gurley and Levert Gillman. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 15, 1989, a brother, Lawrence Wilson in 1982 and her sister, Ruby Davis in 1995. Survivors include a son, E.W."Butch" Turner and wife, Linda of Borger; a daughter, Linda Thornton and husband, Dr. Floyd Thornton of Wichita Falls; four grandchildren, Kelly Hooper of Euless, Leah Hooper Walker and husband, Richard of Wichita Falls, Katie Turner Francis and husband, Brad of Borger and Colby Turner of Austin; and four great-grandchildren. Pollard, 76, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Bethel Assembly of God with the Rev. Rex Kreusel, pastor, and the Rev. H.L. Stevens, retired minister of Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Pollard was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Memphis. He worked for Natural Gas Pipeline for 27 years. Survivors include his wife, Lois; a daughter, Tanya Spivey of Amarillo; a son, Billy Pollard of Fort Worth; a brother, Bob Pollard of Dumas; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Childress TULIA - William B. Childress, M.D., 81, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Davenport, pastor, and Hardy Childress officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home. Dr. Childress was born July 14, 1920, in Swisher County. He moved to Stamford in 1925 where he graduated from high school. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. He married Dorothy Coleman on Jan. 23, 1943, in Fort Worth. He was a member of the first graduating class of Southwestern Medical School at Fort Worth in 1944. He served his surgical residency at Medical Arts Hospital in Dallas for two years. He was a captain in the Army during World War II. He moved to Tulia in 1950, where he began his practice and his lifelong love of serving the people of Tulia and Swisher County. After practicing medicine in five generations of families, he retired in 1998 but continued to practice at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Tulia Unit. Dr. Childress was a gentleman farmer. He was a longtime member of The Pastor's Class at First Baptist Church. He was a charter member of Tulia Rotary Club, where he achieved the Paul Harris Fellow Award and had 46 years of perfect attendance. He was a charter member of the American Academy of Family Practice. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Childress, in 1992. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Elaine Lee of Amarillo; a son, Bill Tom Childress of Amarillo; a brother, Hardy Childress of Bryan; and two grandsons, Jason Lee and Jacob Lee, both of Amarillo. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and was a member of Bell Telephone Pioneers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcelle Smith on Sept. 17, 2000.
