Services will be at 3 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Ivey Edwards, pastor, and Bobby Boston and Lewis Gibbons, friends of Mr. Derrick, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mr. Derrick was born Dec. 13, 1913, at Spur, Dickens County, and came to Donley County in 1915. His father worked for the RO Ranch, which later became the Lewis Ranch, for 65 years. After the death of W.J. Lewis in 1960, and his son's death a year later, Frank, who was raised on the Lewis Ranches and worked there since the age of 17, became general manager. He held this position during most of the Lewis era of the RO Ranch and until his retirement. He was community-oriented and involved in many community projects throughout his life. He served as a staff sergeant in the Army during World War II, involved in the chemical warfare division. He was a recipient of the Texas Trail Blazer Award as an outstanding rancher in 1991. He was Clarendon Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 1988 and received special recognition for support of the Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Texas Cattle Raisers Association and was a Methodist. Casket bearers will be nephews of Mr. Derrick. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Derrick; and a sister, Margaret Nelson. Survivors include two sisters, Mary Harlan and Pearl Hermesmeyer, both of Clarendon; a brother, Floyd Derrick of Amarillo; and several nieces and nephews. He was raised in the St. Francis community and graduated from Price Memorial College. He served in the Army Air Corps for 22 years and retired with the rank of captain. He completed 47 bombing missions over Europe. He was awarded the Air Medal Award with eight oak leaf clusters and five battle stars. In 1951, he joined the Postal Service and retired in 1990. He was a life member of DAV. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet; his daughter, Caroline Tennison; and a son, Patrick Raef.
