Pinkerton HEREFORD - Georgie R. Pinkerton, 69, died Sunday, June 3, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Rix Funeral Directors Chapel with Don Fortner, his nephew and Seventh-day Adventist pastor. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery. Mrs. Pinkerton married Billy Joe Pinkerton on Jan. 29, 1954, in Norman, Okla. She was employed by Hereford Day Care Center, Norton Center, as an administrative assistant for 15 years prior to retiring. Survivors include a daughter, Vivian Klecker of Hereford; three sons, Bruce Pinkerton, Doug Pinkerton and Joe Pinkerton, all of Hereford; four sisters, Myrtle Fortner of Happy, Ivagene Elliston of Hereford and Bernice Greer and Evelyn Fitzpatrick, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Wayne Elliston of Amarillo; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, June 5, 2001 John Ruel Porter - John Ruel Porter, 82, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, in Houston. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Claude United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gene Weinette officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home Armstrong Chapel of Claude. Mr. Porter was born in Silverton. He graduated from Claude High School. He married Catherine Terrell in Chandler on Dec. 9, 1945. They were married for more than 56 years. Mr. Porter worked with Armstrong County Museum and the Claude Cemetery board. He also worked with the Masons, the Shriners and the American Legion. He served as a first sergeant in the Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Claude United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cynthia Gordon of Tyler; a son-in-law, Joseph Gordon; a sister, Bonnie Haddock of Lovington, N.M.; and two grandchildren, John Benjamin Gordon and his wife, Ainsley, of Dallas and Holly Ellen Gordon of Washington, D.C. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 26. Mr. Fagan was born in Rosston, Okla. He moved to Amarillo in 1963 from Quanah. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. In Quanah, he worked for the Quanah, Acme & Pacific Railroad. After moving to Amarillo, he worked for Llano Cemetery until his retirement in 1974. Mr. Fagan married Madie Bigham in 1937 at Quanah. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sherry Short of Amarillo, Connie Letts of Albuquerque, N.M., and Madie Kim Daughtery of Fayetteville, N.C.; a son, Tommy Fagan of Amarillo; a sister, Virda Mae Dunlap of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandson. He graduated from Amarillo High School and West Texas A&M at Canyon. He was manager of the Sandies football team during high school. He was an Eagle Scout. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order at WT and an alumnae adviser for the KA Chapter of WT. He also was a member of Southwest Cattle Raisers Association. Mr. Hunter worked for his father's State Farm Insurance Co. agency as a staff representative and was a partner in Lazy 3 Cattle Co. Survivors include his parents, Lynda and Roy Hunter of Amarillo; a brother, John Hunter of Fort Worth; a sister, Cari Laminack of Amarillo; and grandmother, Joy Zamora of Sudan. Amarillo Globe-News June 5, 2001 Thelma Louise Hamilton Thelma Louise Hamilton, 94, of Amarillo, died Saturday, June 2, 2001. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church at Holdenville, Okla., with the Rev. Joe Robinson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Holdenville Cemetery by Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. Local arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Hamilton was born in Roff, Okla. on April 14, 1097, to Eunice and Malcomb Bronaugh. The family moved to Ada, Okla., where she completed her school years. She received a bachelor's degree in education from East Central State University. Several years later she completed her master's degree in education and also received her counselor's certificate. She married James Hamilton in 1925. He preceded her in death in January 1974. She taught school in Stuart, Okla., Konowa, Okla., Norman, Okla., and Holdenville. During her career she taught English, Latin, speech, math and driver's education. Her last 19 years were spent as Holdenville's first counselor and testing coordinator. Mrs. Hamilton took early retirement in 1970 to spend time with her husband. They traveled extensively over the United States, Canada and Europe. She was a member of many organizations, including the Ken Mair Class, served as chairman for the May Breakfast 25 years, was awarded a life membership in 1959 in the Wesleyan Service Guild and was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi from the University of Oklahoma. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, County Education Association, Oklahoma Education Association, National Education Association and American Counselors Association. She served on the State Speech League board for five years and on the Home Economics board three years. She was a first aid instructor for the American Red Cross for eight years. She was a member of the official board of Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church and also served as the board's secretary. She was chairman of Council on Ministries, adult coordinator, chairman of Memorial Commission, chairman of the board of trustees for nine years, and a member of the United Methodist church for 88 years. She also served as a Pink Lady at Holdenville General Hospital for three years. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Pat Hamilton of Amarillo; cousins, Cora Elizabeth and Robert Baker of Tulsa, Okla., Nancy and Murray Gullatt of Tulsa and C.T. and Vicky Bronaugh of Arlington; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. He moved to Amarillo from Crane in 1961. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a charger member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church. He married Mary Zimmermann in 1938. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard Hinnant of Amarillo, John Hinnant of San Antonio and Reagan Barbee Hinnant of Richland Springs; a brother, Johnny Hinnant of Pearsall; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in San Jacinto Baptist Church with Dr. Stan Coffey officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Rogers moved to Amarillo in 1993 from Richmond, Va. She was the assistant manager of Mary & Rogers Day Care Center. She married Ronnie Rogers on June 10, 1982, in Amarillo. She was a member of San Jacinto Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by twin daughters, Amanda and Alisha, in 1985. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Derek Rogers, Ryan Rogers, Kelsey Rogers and Trisstin Rogers; her parents, Charles and Peggy Anderson of Lubbock; a brother, Chris Anderson of Amarillo; and her grandmother, Louise Graham of Lubbock. Amarillo Globe-News, June 5, 2001 Frances Lelia Pantel Frances Lelia Pantel, 84, of Amarillo, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, in Phoenix, Ariz. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the original building of First Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Bull officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Lowmans Arizona Funeral Home in Phoenix. Mrs. Pantel died as a result of a stroke suffered while recovering from surgery. Born Frances Lelia Parker on Nov. 3, 1906, in Clarendon, she received her nurse's training in Houston. She was a surgical nurse and operating room supervisor at the Veteran's Hospital of Amarillo for 26 years prior to her retirement in 1979. She married Ernest W. Pantel on July 29, 1972, in Amarillo. She was a 46-year resident of the city and a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; two sons, John E. Gaines and William H. Gay of Virginia; a stepson, Gregory E. Pantel of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Barbara E. Weatherford of Spring; a brother, Henry M. Parker of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Hughes St. Mrs. Brooks was born and educated in Burlington. She moved to Amarillo in 1935. Arrangements are by American Mortuary Services in San Antonio. Mrs. Atchley was born on July 30, 1930, at Cushing Okla. She moved to Amarillo in 1960. She had been a resident of Friona, Bovina and Farwell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Atchley. Survivors include two daughters, Kathi Kaufman of San Antonio and Ruth Webb of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Brandon Williams and Jennifer Kaufman, both of San Antonio; and a great-granddaughter, Ashtyn Williams of San Antonio.
