Jernigan, pastor of Calvary Christian Fellowship Church, and the Rev. Jack Lee, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mr. Pasley was born March 3, 1924, in Holdenville, Okla. He had lived in Shamrock since 1957. He owned and operated Pasley Construction Company from 1963 to 1993. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion. He served in the Navy during World War II. He married Helen Marie McCoin on Aug. 16, 1941. She died Dec. 21, 1989. Mr. Pasley then married Billie Lax on Dec. 29, 1990, in Shamrock. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dennis Ralph Pasley of Lubbock; a daughter, Barbara Davis of Weatherford, Okla.; a stepson, Dean Lax of Kelton; a stepdaughter, Brenda Bond of Shamrock; a brother, Glen Dale Paslay, of Holdenville; a sister, Minnie Reynolds of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He worked as a racehorse trainer for 20 years and spent the last two years as a jailer for the Denton County Sheriff's Department. He moved to Hardesty six months ago. He was a Baptist. He married Jackie Sue Wilkinson in 1956 at Dumas. She preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 2001. Mrs. VanVliet graduated as valedictorian of her high school class in Holstein, Iowa, in 1934. She was offered three scholarships for academics, basketball and music. Ruth attended both the American Institute of Business and Drake University. She married Charles Dean VanVliet of Indianola, Iowa, on Dec. 28, 1939. They were married for 61 years until Van's death June 18, 2000. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 56 years. She served as a deacon and played piano for the children's Sunday school for more than 40 years. Ruth's life was filled with music. She was 80 years old when she gave her piano recital at Amarillo College. Ruth was active in numerous clubs which included MacDowell Music Club, Philharmonic Music Club, the Amarillo Symphony Guild and the Women's Club of Amarillo. She also enjoyed tennis, golf, swimming and yoga. Ruth was the first president of the Tennis Association at Amarillo County Club. The son of a Methodist minister, he attended Oklahoma public schools. He graduated from Westminister College in Fulton, Mo., and was present when Winston Churchill delivered his "Iron Curtin" address. The first draftee from Custer County, Okla., in 1941, Mr. Simmons served five years in the Army Transportation Service. Following his active service, he served in the Army Reserves, achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel. He married Rachel Pierce in the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 19, 1942. Mr. Simmons worked for Dun & Bradstreet and operated a wholesale business in Knoxville, Tenn. Prior to retirement he was employed by the University of Tennessee Continuing Education Program, teaching civil defense across the state. He and his wife moved to Amarillo in October 1988 to be near family. He was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and the 50-50 Class. He was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Barton Grooms; and a grandson, Stephen Kendall Grooms.
