Mrs. Gray was born in Wheeling, W.Va. She had lived in Groom for the past 12 years. A homemaker, she was a demonstration agent at Albertson's in Pampa. Ralph Nicholas Leone: 1918-2001 __________________________________________ Ralph N. Leone Amarillo Lt. Col. Ralph Nicholas Leone, 82, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001. Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Monsignor Joseph Tash as celebrant. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Leone was born in Bronx, N.Y., and had been a resident of Amarillo for 42 years. He married Margaret Kenyon on Oct. 23, 1948, at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. As a well-known promoter of Amarillo, he was active in a number of volunteer organizations, including the HOSTS program, AMBUCs and Chamber of Commerce. He was chairman of the 2001 Annual Reunion, 461st Bomb Wing in Amarillo, which was headquartered at Amarillo Air Force Base from 1959 to 1968. Professionally, he was a free-lance photographer and owner of Visuals Unlimited. He also had taught photography at Amarillo College, had been manager of Medical Media for the Veteran's Hospital and had been in sales for KFDA Channel 10. During World War II, he was a highly decorated B-26 pilot. In April 1944, he was shot down over France. For the next 12 months, he was a prisoner of war in Germany. He received the Purple Heart. He retired from the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel after 24 years of service and remained active in veterans organizations. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Margaret I. "Miki" Leone of Amarillo; a daughter, Peggy Leone of Amarillo; and a brother, Julius Leone of White Plains, N.Y. Mrs. Nettles was born Feb. 16, 1918, in House, N.M., but moved to Amarillo at an early age with her parents, H. J. Cobb and Viola Swift Cobb. She graduated from Amarillo High School and was employed by Mobil Oil Co. and Phillips Petroleum Co., from which she retired. Mrs. Nettles was a member of First Christian Church, the U & I Sunday School Class, CWF, Miriam Group, and had served as chairman of the arts and crafts group at the church for many years. She was also a member of the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association, Ester McCrory Chapter of the D.A.R., Amarillo Art Alliance, Amarillo Symphony Guild, Art Force and the Amarillo Federation of Women's Clubs. She was a member and past president of Junior Business Women's Club, Amarillo Art League and the Desk and Derrick Club. She married Paul Nettles on May 30, 1957, in Lubbock. Survivors include her husband; a sister, Doris Miller of McAllen; four nephews, Keith Miller of Tempe, Ariz., Steve Miller of Dallas, Kirk Miller of Wichita, Kan., and Gerald Moreland of Lubbock. He was a member of the Amarillo Plumbers and Steam Fitters Union, Local No. 196, where he served as president and business agent. He also was a trainer on the apprentice board. He was a well-known butcher for many years in Pleasant Valley. He married Wilma L. Allen on July 12, 1944, at Tulsa, Okla. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carol L. Cooper of San Antonio and Carla G. Cooper of Amarillo; two sons, Roger Cooper of Baird and Ronald G. Cooper of Amarillo; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
