Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in April Sound Church with the Rev. Dowen Johnson officiating. Private graveside services will be at Garden Park Cemetery by Cashner Funeral Home and Cemeteries. Mr. Hughes was a joy to those who knew him for 82 years. He walked this earth from May 31, 1918, until May 5, 2001. Charlie will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, for whom God, family and church came first. He was with the Department of Transportation, District No. 4, for 35 years. He loved his work and the friendships he made in his years with the department. He was a member of April Sound Church, and especially cherished the fellowship of the Upper Room Sunday school class. He was a Mason. He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Orla; three children, Ron and his wife, DJ, Lynda and her husband, Bob Sasser, and Neal and his wife, Mary. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren, are Erik Hughes and his wife, Amanda, and their sons, Andrew and Beau of Antioch, Ill.; Brian Sasser and Heather Kelly of Las Vegas; Alyson Murphy and her husband, Martin, of Richardson; Kim Sasser of Nashville, Tenn.; and Tai Hughes of Montgomery. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers to the building fund of the April Sound Church, 671/2 April Wind South, Montgomery, TX 77356; or Crown of Texas Hospice Foundation at Louisiana Pacific Tower, 100 Interstate 45 North, Box No. 103, Conroe, TX 77301. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Scott Airy, Terry Merritt, Jack Bodman, Harry Kocian, George Ehler, Gordon Bussey and Martin Murphy.
