Mr. Beckett was born in Mason County, Ky. He was raised on a tobacco farm by his grandmother. He participated in action at Guadalcanal Island, Soloman Islands, New Britain, Peleliu, Palau Islands and the Carolina Islands, all in the Asiatic Pacific Area. He was an active and faithful member of First United Methodist Church. He served as mayor of Texhoma and as president of Texas County Water Board. Mr. Beckett was born in Mason County, Ky. He was raised on a tobacco farm by his grandmother. He worked for Goodyear Tire Co. in Akron, Ohio, for 20 years before and after serving his county in the Marine Corps during World War II. He participated in action at Guadalcanal Island, Solomon Islands, New Britain, Peleliu, Palau Islands and the Carolina Islands, all in the Asiatic Pacific Area. He was awarded the Service Lapel Button, the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart with Cluster Medal and the Honorable Discharge Button. He married Doris Buterbaugh on June 14, 1959, at Akron. They moved to Amarillo in 1962. He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church for more than 30 years. He worked for Bittman's Appliance for about 10 years before working at Good Housekeeping Shop for five years. He also worked at Walsh Foods in sales for a short while. He was an excellent salesman. He was well-known and loved in his community, and he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Pearson. In Amarillo, she was a homemaker and an elder at First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Hepburn Nevins Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 4, 1982, at Amarillo. She married Standley Hudson and he died Aug. 15, 1987. She lived at Muleshoe and House, N.M., before moving to Amarillo in 1944. She was a hairdresser for many years. She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church for 50 years. She taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for many years. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Mrs. Gabehart was born Feb. 21, 1932, near Butler, Okla., the second of nine children, to Steve and Dottie Prince Maggard. She graduated from Binger High School at Binger, Okla., in 1948. She married Albert Gabehart on Oct. 22, 1947, at Anadarko, Okla. Moving to the Olton community in 1948, she and Albert farmed near Circle. They moved to Canyon in 1975. She was a member of Friends for Inspiration in Canyon, a supporter of Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice in Amarillo, and a breast cancer survivor. She brought love and joy to her family, her home and her friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years; her parents; and three brothers, Willie Maggard, Calvin Maggard and Donald Maggard.
