Raymond TULIA - L.G. "Gus" Raymond, 85, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Wallace Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carol Smith, pastor of First Christian Church of Tulia, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Raymond was born May 14, 1916, in Swisher County. He married Ruth Doan on June 1, 1947, at Tulia. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Martha Raymond of Houston; two sons, Mike Raymond and Gary Raymond, both of Dallas; a brother, A.B. Raymond of Tulia; three sisters, Dorris Hisel of Plainview, Juanita Witt of Amarillo and Lucille Cobb of Claude; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 7, 2001 Sarah Taylor Burgess TULIA - Sarah Taylor Burgess, 89, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, in Dallas. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church of Tulia with the Rev. Ernie McGaughey, retired Methodist minister, and the Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Cemetery at Hereford by Wallace Funeral Home of Tulia. Mrs. Burgess grew up in Hereford and graduated from Hereford High School. She had been a school teacher in Tulia since 1962. Survivors include two sons, Larry Taylor of Garland and Lamar Taylor of California; a stepson, David Burgess of Tulia; a sister, Gladys Carter of Plainview; a brother, Noel Bryant of Dallas; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 7, 2001 Julian M. Key PAMPA - Julian M. Key, M.D., 82, formerly of Pampa, died June 20, 2001, in Bend, Ore. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, in First United Methodist Church at Pampa. Dr. Key resided and practiced medicine for most of his life in Pampa, a community of people that he loved. He was born in Houston on Jan. 6, 1919, to the Rev. Ira F. Key and Agnes Haney Sears Key. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and medical school at the University of Texas at Galveston. He married Kathryn White on April 11, 1944, and they moved to Pampa in 1945 where he practiced medicine at the Purviance Clinic with Dr. Macfield McDaniel. He retired in 1984 and moved to Mesa, Ariz. Dr. Key was a devoted husband, father and physician, as well as being active in the community. He was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church. His many community activities included the Gray County Republican Party and the Kiwanis Club. He greatly enjoyed golfing and hunting and, above all, being with friends and family. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Key Crossland and her husband, Clay, of Basalt, Colo., and Cindy Key Lundy and her husband, Bill, of Bend; his sister, Margaret Roberts of Dallas; and four grandchildren, Stephanie, Christopher, Julie and Cary. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Mellinger was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a confirmed Lutheran. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Malta 318 of Burlington, Iowa; Scottish Rite in Lubbock; Amarillo Moose Lodge 1371; Khiva Shrine in Amarillo; American Legion Post 54 in Amarillo and the Elks Lodge. His sporting interests and activities were goose and duck hunting, fishing and baseball. He was an automobile racer for more than 15 years. In 1948, he started work for the Civil Service Commission at Iowa Ordnance Plant in Burlington, Iowa. In 1951, he went to work with Mason & Hanger, Silas Mason Corp., in the position of material expeditor and quality assurance inspector with the Atomic Energy Commission at the Burlington Iowa AEC Plant. He later transferred with the AEC to the Amarillo area office of the Pantex Plant in December 1973. He retired from the Department of Energy in December 1988 as chief of product acceptance section of the Quality Assurance Branch AAO Pantex Plant in Amarillo. Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Graham of Amarillo; two sisters, Marilyn Seibel and Annette Peart, both of Bettendorf, Iowa; and two brothers, Devon Mellinger of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Robert Davis of Sarasota, Fla. Mr. Smith married Camilla Andrews in 1955 at Sayre, Okla., and moved to Amarillo in 1956 from Sayre. He retired in 1980 after 25 years of service with ICX Freight Lines of Amarillo and 12 years with Howell Sand Co. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Camilla, in 1994. Survivors include three daughters, Tina Howell, Pat McGee and Elaine Heavin, all of Amarillo; a sister, Leora Robinson of Carter, Okla.; and two grandsons, Andrew Heavin and Joshua Heavin, both of Amarillo. Griffis was born Aug. 14, 1920, in Dallas. He was the son of William Benton and Mary Davis Griffis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; and five siblings. She married Martin William Knuth on Jan. 26, 1936.
