Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Wendell Leach and the Rev. David Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Johnson was born March 31, 1915, in Nevada, Texas. She married Dudley Johnson on April 11, 1930, at Athens, Texas. Mrs. Johnson was a ready-to-wear buyer for 20 years at Kline's and for eight years at Colbert's. She was the manager of Eldorado Apartments for two years. She was a retired senior volunteer for five years. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association and was once elected Woman of the Year. She was president of the Pilot Club in 1961 and co-chairman of the American Heart Association's Heart Fund in 1977. She was a member of Tenth Street Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991. Survivors include a daughter, Jeanene Detton of Amarillo; a son, Jargo Johnson of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; 24 greatgrandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and very special friend and neighbor, Jesse Salcido. The family suggests memorials be to the American Heart Association, 2404 W. Seventh, Amarillo, TX 79106; or BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176-0001. The family will receive visitors today from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Schooler Funeral Home. Amarillo Daily News April 9, 2001 Beth Thompson Beth Thompson, 79, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 7, 2001. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Brentwood Chapel at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Jacklyn McNeil officiating. Mrs. Thompson was born in Idabel, Okla., on April 27, 1921. She married Fred Thompson on March 19, 1941. She moved to Amarillo from Idabel. She loved retail in ladies apparel. She worked for Mr. G's for 22 years. Survivors include a sister, Allene Clarkson of Wichita Falls; and good friends, Tommie Chavez of Espanola, N.M., Jim Upchurch of Lubbock and Joann Bennett and Tomi Lowe, both of Amarillo. Services will be at noon Tuesday in Chapel of Roses at Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St., with the Rev. Warren Cobe, pastor of True Love Church of God in Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Evans was born in Montgomery. He had lived in Amarillo for 65 years. Survivors include a son, R.L. Evans of Denver; and a granddaughter. Amarillo Daily News April 9, 2001 Horace L. Wolf Jr. Horace L. "Buddy" Wolf Jr., 57, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 7, 2001. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in North Amarillo Church of Christ with Haun Kite, associate minister, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery with military rites by D.A.V. Chapter No. 26. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Wolf was born in New Orleans. He was a longtime resident of Amarillo. A Navy veteran, he married Carrie Shelton in 1993 at Amarillo. After attending Amarillo Police Academy, Amarillo College and West Texas State University, he worked as a police officer and detective for the Amarillo Police Department. A retired forgery detective with 29 years of service, he was instrumental in the formation of the forgery division. He had received additional training in document examination and was certified as an expert trial witness in handwriting analysis. He was a member of WADE (World Association of Document Examiners) and North Amarillo Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark Wolf and Michael Wolf; two brothers; and a sister. Prayer services will be at 8 p.m. today in Trinity Fellowship Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church with Phil Mercado, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Holley Funeral Home. Mr. Flores had been a concrete contractor in Canyon since 1976. Survivors include his former wife, Elizabeth Flores; two sons, Joe L. Flores Jr., of Canyon and Johnny Flores of Amarillo; four daughters, Minerva Flores, Sally Flores and Jasinia Flores, all of Canyon, and Irma Flores of Amarillo; a brother, Sabino Flores of Tucson, Ariz.; four sisters, Rita Ramirez and Maria Estrada, both of Hereford, and Yolanda Gonzalez and Josephine Flores, both of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren, Dulce, Diangela, Diego, Mercedes, Ezekiel and Elijah, all of Canyon, and Billy, Joseph, John and Jonah, all of Amarillo; and two greatgrandchildren, Isaiah and Adrick, both of Amarillo. Services were at 2 p.m. Friday in Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Rick Stevens officiating. Burial was at 4 p.m. Saturday in Clayton Memorial Cemetery at Clayton. Arrangements were by Sears Alamogordo Funeral Home. Mrs. Leighty was born on Feb. 21, 1916, at Mount Dora. She taught for more than 35 years at several area schools, including Seneca, Grenville, Amistad and Des Moines. Survivors include her husband, Lyle F. Leighty; a son, Michael Leighty of Fort Worth; a daughter, Laura Sanchez of Vallejo, Calif.; a sister, Ruth Walker of Clayton; and two granddaughters. Amarillo Daily News April 9, 2001 Elsewhere Dennis B. Ford Jr. AUSTIN - Dr. Dennis B. Ford Jr., 78, died Thursday, April 5, 2001. Services were at 5 p.m. Saturday in Pedernales Valley Baptist Church. Burial was in Fall Creek Cemetery by Harrell Funeral Home. Dr. Ford had lived in Briarcliff and Austin since 1982. He was awarded the Purple Heart during his service in the Army in World War II. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Texas A&I University, a master's degree in business administration from Texas Tech University and a doctorate from the University of Texas. He was a professor and dean of the School of Business at Texas A&I University at Kingsville for 25 years. For many years, he was an active member and a deacon of First Baptist Church at Kingsville. He was also a management consultant and chairman of the board of a Houston manufacturing company. He was an active member of the tennis community at Lost Creek Country Club. He had a lifelong commitment to education, both for himself and for his loved ones.. Survivors include his wife, Dr. LaNelle Brigance Ford; two daughters, Dr. Kathryn Ford and Dr. Linda Ford; five sisters, Nina Davis, Dorothy Cline, Geneva Langley, Barbara Jackson and Shirley McNew; and grandchildren, Eric Julie, Tory, Jonah and Zoe, all of Northern California. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park by Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. Bullock married Effie Hawkins on July 5, 1941, at Altus, Okla. He served with the Army as a radio operator during World War II in the battles of Bismarck Archipelago, South Philippines and Luzon. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sandra Wakefield of Tyler and Romona Gibson of Denton; two sisters, Dorothy Rocca and Miram Campbell, both of Cleveland; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Mr. Hoyt was raised and attended school in Mankato, Kan. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Monte Carol Hall; three stepdaughters, Vernita Marie Martinez of Waurika, Okla., and Lorraine Davis and Shirley Neal, both of Wichita, Kan.; a brother, Marlin Dean Hoyt of Canadian; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Harris was a retired farmer. He served with the Navy during World War II. Survivors include two sons, Wesley Allen Harris of Minco, Okla., and Dana Jay Harris of Monahans; three sisters, Vennie Vick of Littlefield, Bonnie Butler of Hamlin and Dene Hall of Midland; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
