Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Citizens Cemetery at Clarendon with the Rev. Gene Moore, her son-in-law, officiating. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mrs. Seago was born Sept. 5, 1909, at San Augustine, to Isaac and Susan Francis Noble. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from West Texas State University. She married Nelson Seago in 1953 and they were active members of the Lelia Lake community for many years. She spent her life serving others. She taught in Texas Public Schools for 34 years and in Colorado schools for six years. She and her husband were active members in Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron and Patron in the Clarendon Chapter. Just recently she received her 50-year pen. She lived her life for others and was the truest friend one could have. When her health prevented her from doing for others, she made sure her daughters carried on her mission. His roots in Texas history date back to the early days of the Republic. The four unchanging tenets of Gladys were, "I love my God, I'm a Texan, I'm a Methodist and I'm a Democrat." However, in the last presidential election she accompanied her daughters to Republican headquarters. As she was a about to cast her vote she said, "I thought I was a Democrat," but her Texas spirit crossed party lines as she voted for her fellow Texan, George Bush. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Rodney Nelson Seago; four brothers; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Survivors include two daughters, Bobbie Moore of Waco and Sue Payne of Pleasanton; a brother, Lacy Noble of Clarendon; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Robertson Funeral Home. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 9, 2001 Myrtle Simpson MATADOR - Myrtle Simpson, 76, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, in Lockney. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Church of Christ with Mike Crowley Sr., minister, officiating. Burial will be in Whiteflat Cemetery at Whiteflat by Seigler Funeral Home. Mrs. Simpson was born May 15, 1925. She was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, Wayne Williams of Oklahoma City and Calvin Williams of Amarillo; three daughters, Ruth Stone of Matador, Imagene Newberry of Crosbyton and Ruby Moore of Benton; a sister, Willie Mae Shipley of Waco; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 9, 2001 Horace Elmer Mullin TURKEY - Horace Elmer Mullin, 94, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Church of Christ with minister Clark Johnson, minister Stuart Smith and minister Randy Mullin officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Myers-Long Funeral Directors. Mr. Mullin was born to Horace and Arena Mullin on Jan. 13, 1907, in the Turkey area. He was one of 10 children. He lived in the Turkey area all his life. He and Lillian Bowman Law were married on March 10, 1929, and had 72 wonderful years of marriage. He engaged in several occupations including the Toggery, railroad work, hauling cattle and raising them, harvested wheat, farmed cotton and other crops, then was in the Three Brothers Allis Chalmers business for 52 years. He was a devout Christian man who loved people and children. He helped family and friends as often as he could and still carry on the hard work he always engaged in to raise his family. He was gifted with the ability to laugh, engage in conversation, loved history and was very humorous. He was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters, Mary Maud Hutson, Jessie Mullin, William Mullin, Guy Mullin and Nona Mullin. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 9, 2001 Marvin Eugene Ezell BOVINA - Marvin Eugene Ezell, 83, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2001, in Muleshoe. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard N. Horn of Austin, the Rev. Quita Jones, pastor, and Dr. Robert Monk of Abilene officiating. Burial will be in Bovina Cemetery by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home. Mr. Ezell was born April 20, 1918, two miles south of Bovina, to Roy B. and Della Martin Ezell. He was a lifetime resident of Parmer County. He married Genevieve Bender of Shattuck, Okla., on Feb. 20, 1937, at Clovis, N.M. He was a member of First United Methodist Church for 75 years. He served as church treasurer for 33 years and was also a Sunday school teacher He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 129th Infantry Co., 37th Division in the liberation of the Philippines, where he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge. He became postmaster of Bovina on May 30, 1947, and served until March 30, 1984, when he retired. He was a former member and past president of several organizations including serving on the school board for six years, charter member of Bovina Lions Club, Bovina Wheat Growers, Bovina Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry Eugene Ezell and wife, Irene, of Mullin and Roger Lynn Ezell and wife, Judy, of Plano; a daughter, Joan Kay Horn and husband, Dick, of Austin; six grandchildren, Angela Taylor, Larry Ezell Jr. Leslie Guy Ezell, Richard Horn, Tim Horn and Stephen Horn; seven great-grandchildren, Dewayne, Cassie, Chase, Tanner, Hannah, Kendra and Dylan; and a great-great-grandchild, Zachary Scott. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Pray was born in Cripple Creek, Colo., to Leslie Bryan Manning and Geraldine Helen McCarthy Manning. She graduated from Amarillo High School and was a longtime resident. She received a master's degree in business from West Texas State University and was a professor there. She married Wallace Franklin Pray on Aug. 29, 1947, at Amarillo. She was a member of St. Luke Presbyterian Church. She was active in the community as a volunteer for HOSTS, Region 16 adult basic education as a mentor, Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice, Faith City Mission and Meals on Wheels. She was the Randall County RSVP Volunteer of the Year for 2000-2001. She was also recognized as a Volunteer of the Day for Amarillo Globe-News. She was a member of the Wild Rose Lodge, Auxiliary of United Transportation Union, Amarillo Federation of Women, West Texas A&M Women, Amarillo Senior Citizens and the Quilters Club. She was also president of Alpha Chi Omega. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 26, 2001. Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Pray of Amarillo, Patricia Whitten of Tulsa, Okla., and Jeri Brady of Tacoma, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Cremation and arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Wagner was born in Reading, Pa., on Aug. 6, 1913. He had lived in Amarillo since 1949. He worked as a home builder for 12 years and then owned Top of Texas Goat Dairy for 14 years. He retired in 1975. He was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church for 40 years. Survivors include his wife, Imogene; three daughters, Roya Gore of Houston, Robyn Crumb of Fort Worth and Lissa Merchant of Amarillo; a sister, Bella Ernst of Reading, Pa.; two grandchildren, Randy Woolsey and Traci Boaz, both of Houston; and a great-grandson, Reece Woolsey of Houston. Mass will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1200 S. Washington St., with Monsignor Joe Bixenman, Monsignor Francis Smyer and the Rev. Terry Burke officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery at Pampa by Moore Funeral Home of Arlington. Dr. Rush was born Feb. 26, 1948, at Pampa. She attended Pampa High School where she was an accomplished National Science Fair winner. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in medical technology and microbiology. In the course of her studies she met Michael Rush and they were married on Jan. 17, 1970. They had two daughters and eventually settled in Arlington. She went back to school at the University of Texas at Arlington to fulfill her pre-med requirements. While raising two young daughters, she fulfilled her dream of becoming a medical doctor and graduated in the top 10 percent of her class from Southwestern Medical School in 1984. She practiced medicine in the Dallas-Fort Worth area as a board certified family practitioner and volunteered her services with Arlington Night Shelter and Mission Arlington as a care giver for the homeless. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Perry Doucette in 1994. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kellie Rush-Frie and husband, Ross of Austin and Tracie Rush of Fort Worth; her mother, Mary Doucette; a brother, John Doucette and wife, Phyllis of Amarillo; a niece, Laura Ann of Amarillo; a nephew, Mark LeFors of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Michael Edward and Lauren Nicole, both of Austin, and Blake Ryan of Fort Worth. Arrangements were by Abbey Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Mr. Meyers was excited about the upcoming birth of his second grandchild, to be named Justise Rae Mares, who will be born in February. Survivors include his ex-wife and mother of his children, Paula Hollis of Sanger; his children, Robin Mares and husband, John, and Paul Meyers, all of Amarillo; a sister, Sandy Bedtelyon of Saginaw, Mich.; and a grandchild, James Anthony Mares. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 9, 2001 Elsewhere Leonard Pressley Ashton Jr. SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Leonard Pressley Ashton Jr., 82, formerly of Cactus, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, in Scottsdale, Ariz. Private family services will be held. Burial will be in Paradise Memorial Gardens by Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary. Mr. Ashton was born at home on April 14, 1919, at Wellington, to Leonard Pressley Ashton Sr. and Elise Wilson Ashton. He married LaVerne Robertson of Reed, Okla., on June 18, 1941. He served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps in World War II stationed out of Shepherd Field. He served as an officer of the local AFL-CIO for more than 20 years representing the union men with which he worked for many years striving continually for better working conditions and wages. He was an active member of Etter Baptist Church. When Phillips closed the plant in 1971, he retired and formed, with a small group of men, the Cactus 287 Corp., of which he was president. The company purchased the township of Cactus. They moved to Scottsdale in 2000 when his health started to fail to be close to two of his daughters. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Grand Lodge of Texas AF&AM Dumas Lodge 1009. He belonged to the Loyal Order of the Moose in Dumas and was a member of High Plains Army 36th Division Association in Amarillo. He was an independent car dealer for 30 years and was a member of Amarillo Auto Auction. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Sherri Smith and Danyce Ashton, both of Scottsdale, Candace Scott of Austin, Texas, and Kim Wallace of Wylie, Texas; two sons-in-law, Charlie Smith and Randy Wallace; a brother, Archie Lee Ashton and wife, Lillian of Amarillo, Texas; a sister, Wilsie Skipworth and husband, Edwin "Skip" of Amarillo; two grandsons and their families, Ashton Nowak, Tisha Nowak and Sawyer Nowak, all of Austin, and Joshua Pipkin, Collin Pipkin and Pressley Pipkin, all of Amarillo; and a host of other family members and many friends.
