He was pastor of Templo Bethel Asambleas de Dios in Dumas. He was born April 25, 1938, at Cardenas, Chihuahua, Mexico. He married Herlinda Arenivar on April 23, 1963, at Meoqui, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was a pastor in Sunray and Dumas for 15 years. He worked in farming with Morris Hunt for 43 years. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Rosa Guajardo of Dumas; four sons, Victor Mares Jr., Daniel Mares and Esteban Mares, all of Dumas, and Josue Mares of Plainview; his mother, Maria Petra Mares of Dumas; two brothers, Samuel Mares and Aurelia Avila, both of Dumas; two sisters, Bertha Mendoza and Esther Calderon, both of Dumas; and seven grandchildren. He was a member of the Gordonville Masonic Lodge No. 536, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, S.J, USA, El Paso, and was a lifetime member of Brotherhood Locomotive Engineers. He retired as an engineer from Santa Fe Railway and had lived in the Gordonville (Sherwood Shores) area approximately 12 years. She married Aaron Lewis Barrow on March 22, 1941, at Albuquerque, N.M. He preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 2000. Mrs. Berry was born May 1, 1915, at Pleasant Hill, N.M., to Benjamin Franklin and Sarah Lee Robinson Freeman. She married Cecil Berry at Clovis, N.M., in 1936. In 1961, they moved to Canyon from Bovina, where they farmed and ranched. She attended West Texas State University, majoring in creative writing. She was a member of Panhandle Pen Women's Association and First Baptist Church of Canyon. Her husband preceded her in death in 1994. Survivors include three daughters, Glenna Berry of Abilene, Ellen Beougher of San Antonio and Celia McFadden of Lubbock; two sons, Larry Berry of Vega and Julian Berry of Canyon; seven grandsons; and several great-grandchildren.
