Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Central Baptist Church with Dr. Derrell Monday, pastor, and the Rev. Rick Parnell, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. May was born Jan. 22, 1933, in Wheeler. He graduated from Wheeler High School in 1952. He married Helen Marie Johnson on Jan. 16, 1953, in Wheeler by the Rev. M.B. Smith. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict as an anti-aircraft artillery radar operator. He was a resident of the Wheeler-Mobeetie area until 1995, when he moved to Pampa. He worked in the sand and gravel business as well as custom harvesting with his dad, Amos. He also was involved in farming and ranching and was an independent insurance agent and bank president. He worked for a while with his son Gary, in oil field contracting and worked with various auction services. He served as deacon at First Baptist Church of Mobeetie and First Baptist Church of Miami, and served as congregational song leader in Mobeetie. He was a member of Central Baptist Church where he served as an usher and was a member of the Adult Six Mens Sunday School Class. He was a Gideon. He was a member of the Tex-Mex Diablos of the Carriage Travel Club serving as president. He was a loving and loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a special place in his heart for children. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Amos and Faye May. Survivors include his wife, Helen; a daughter, Debbie Stribling and husband, Tom, of Dumas; two sons, Jackie May and wife, Pat, of Amarillo and Gary May and wife, Carolyn of Diana; two sisters, Lois Harris and husband, Charles, of Pampa and Melba Robertson and husband, Glenn, of Bay City; six grandchildren, Jackie Don and Kellie May, both of Fritch, Tony Salas and Amanda Salas of Mobeetie, Brandee Stribling of Olton, Wesley Stribling and Anna Stribling of Canyon and Travis May and Clayton May of Diana; three foster grandchildren, Darius, Brittani and Jerome all of Dumas; five great-grandchildren, Peyton May and Shelton May, both of Fritch, Jayton, Garrett, and Jarrett Childress all of Mobeetie; and two step-great-grandchildren, Lynnesa and Deidra Salas both of Mobeetie. Mr. Schniers was born June 13, 1922, at Dalhart, to Ben and Mary Schumacker Schniers. He was raised in the Perico Area and graduated from Perico School. He served in the Army. He married Doris Cumming in Dalhart on Nov. 22, 1955. He retired from Thompson Wholesale in 1975. He was an active member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and a lifelong member of Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Paul. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Texola Cemetery at Texola, Okla. Ms. Horton was born Sept. 7, 1915, at Baum, Okla. She was a Texola resident from 1960 until 1995, when she moved to Dumas. She was a homemaker and member of Ninth and Bliss Church of Christ. She married Thomas T. Horton on June 23, 1932, at Frederick, Okla. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970; a daughter, Wilma Jean Bunge; and a son, Robert Horton. Survivors include three sons, J.W. Horton of Lynchburg, Tenn., Gerald Horton of Dumas and Johnnie Horton of Denver; three daughters, Genevie Harrison of New Waverly, Lillian Powers of Fort Lupton, Colo., and Christine Walker of Odessa; a sister, Louise Haynes of Fresno, Calif.; two brothers, Ansel Greenway of Hereford and J.R. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 11, 2001 Ruth Braly Neil PLAINVIEW - Ruth Braly Neil, 84, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, in Amarillo. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Wood-Dunning Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. Alice Catholic Church with the Rev. Jim McCartney, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. Mrs. Neil died at 5:20 a.m. Sunday in Amarillo and she will be laid to rest next to her late husband. She was born in Quitaque Jan. 2, 1917. She grew up in Silverton and graduated from Silverton High School. She married Patric W. Neil on June 21, 1938, at Plainview. She spent all of her adult life in Plainview, except for a period in which she and her family lived in Pampa and for 26 years in Tulia. She worked for Southwestern Public Service. When her son was small she led a Cub Scout troop, was a charter member of Opti-Mrs. Club and served as treasurer of PTA. She was a member of St. Alice Catholic Church. She served as a volunteer for the food bank and Senior Citizens Center in Tulia. She was a member of Altar societies in both Tulia and Plainview, helping with arts and crafts and other activities. Ruth and her husband acted as docents at Swisher County Museum and served on the RSVP board. Despite her many activities, her children and grandchildren were her main interests. She loved them dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996, and a sister, Della Braly, in 1983. Survivors include a son, Patric W. Neil Jr. and wife, Marie, of Dallas; a daughter, Frances Hutson and husband, Jim, of Amarillo; a sister, Agnes Braly of Plainview; and two granddaughters, Ruth H. He worked as a printer. He was preceded in death by three daughters, Joyce Clark, Carol Brazeal and Mary Ann Hawley. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Lonnie E. Mr. Hartwell was born in Bennington, Okla., and was raised in Hall County. He served in the Army during World War II, from 1943 until 1946 in the Army Corps of Engineers 73rd Combat Division. He fought in many battles including the Battle of the Bulge with Gen. Patton. He served from 1946 to 1948 in Japan and was recalled to serve in the Korean conflict. He married Opal Webb on Aug. 15, 1958, at Portales, N.M. In the 1950s, he worked in the oil fields in Texas and New Mexico. He moved to Amarillo and owned and operated an appliance repair business. He worked for Great Western Distributors for 27 years before retiring as warehouse manager in 1987. He was a member of Texas Panhandle Chapter of Model A Ford Club as well as a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a brother, G.W. Hartwell, who died in France during World War II. Survivors include his wife; a brother, James Hartwell and wife, Noni, of Amarillo; a sister, Arletta Cobb and husband, Phillip, of Wellington; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Moore was born in Kingsmill. He married Hortense Hodges in Tucumcari, N.M., in 1938. He began working for KGNC-AM in February 1942 as a control room operator. For almost 40 years, he worked the early shift beginning anywhere from 4:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. He was a charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He lived at Hudson House in Claude. Survivors include two daughters, Earlene Armstrong of Amarillo and Gail Milhoan of Olney, Md.; two sons, Byron Moore of White Deer and Dale Moore of Hereford; a sister, Mildred Moore of Amarillo; a brother, Billy Bob Moore of Wildorado; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Spencer was born in Reed, Okla., and had been a longtime Amarillo resident. He served as an Air Corps Cadet in the Air Force during World War II. He graduated from Lamesa High School in 1943, attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in commerce from St. Edward's University in 1950. He married Helen Lou Watson on Aug. 29, 1950. He joined Shamrock Oil and Gas Co. in 1951 as a laborer. He held various engineering positions until 1961 when he was named assistant manager of producing operations. In 1971 he was promoted to manager of producing operations for Diamond Shamrock Co. In November 1975, he was named assistant general manager of drilling and producing operations and in 1978 he assumed the position of vice president/general manager of production. From 1979 until his retirement on Jan. 1, 1986, he served as vice president of operations-production and supply and transportation departments for the oil and gas unit. He served on the board of directors for United Way of Amarillo and Amarillo Rotary Club, on the board of trustees for High Plains Baptist Hospital and was a past member of the board of directors for Amarillo YMCA. He was a member and deacon emeritus of First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school in the preschool division. He held memberships in Society of Petroleum Engineers of AIME, American Petroleum Institute, Panhandle Geological Society and Panhandle National Gas Society. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard L. Spencer and wife, Connie, of Houston and Stephen W. Spencer and wife, Natasha, of Dallas; four grandchildren, Steve Spencer and Elizabeth Spencer, both of Houston, and Anthony Spencer and William Spencer, both of Dallas; a sister, Joan Wilkes of Austin; and a sister-in-law, Ann Glidden of Houston.
