Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Ochiltree County Cemetery with Vernon Appel, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker. Mr. Hitt was born June 6, 1922, in Stover, Miss., to Cleburne and Augusta Russell Hitt. Mr. Hitt enlisted in the Army and served in the European campaign during World War II. Survivors include a daughter, Alice Ochoa of Farnsworth; a son, Steve Hitt of Perryton; two brothers, Haskell Hitt of Darrouzett and Tommy Hitt of Tupelo, Miss.; four sisters, Elease Hite of Clarksdale, Miss., Hazel Durham of Horn Lake, Miss., and Margaret Hitt and Jean Mosby, both of Memphis, Tenn.; and four grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, July 11, 2001 Ann Thompson DALHART - Ann Hartshorn Thompson, 72, died Monday, July 9, 2001. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery at Dalhart. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Texline United Methodist Church at Texline. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home. Mrs. Thompson was born Aug. 9, 1928, in Dalhart to Obart and Alleine Johnson Hartshorn. She married Joe Thompson on Nov. 26, 1950, in Dallas. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Becky Hill of Amarillo, Terri Teig of Stratford and Juliann Fulton of Bushland; a son, Rusty Thompson of Lubbock; a sister, Shirley Matlock of Dallas; and four grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Texline United Methodist Church or Harrington Cancer Center. Amarillo Globe-News, July 11, 2001 Raymond Edward Reid PAMPA - Raymond Edward Reid, 81, died Saturday, July 7, 2001. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in St. Matthews Episcopal Church. Mr. Reid was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Rainelle, W.Va., where he spent the first 16 years of his life. He worked as a welder until he joined the Army Air Corps. He was stationed at Wheeler Field at Oahu on Dec. 7, 1941, when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. He then left Hawaii for flight school to become a B-25 bomber pilot. He flew combat missions from Africa to the island of Corsica with primary targets in Italy and France. He also was involved in the bombing mission of Anzio. In his 70 missions, Mr. Reid had some close calls. He crash-landed once and had two planes that were junked because they were so shot up. One had 267 bullet holes in it. Following his 70th mission he was sent to Pampa Army Air Field to instruct cadets. At that time he had 1,500 combat hours. Mr. Reid's medals include the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze service stars; the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with oak leaf clusters, in addition to other various air medals. He was inducted into the Panhandle Army Air Corps Hall of Fame museum with Gen. Paul Tibbets and his wife in attendance. Mr. Reid was discharged in 1945 and began working for Cree Oil Production and Drilling, working there until his death. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Pampa Masonic Lodge No. 1381. He was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church. He married Bettye Jane Cree on May 26, 1945. Survivors include his wife; his children, Diane Reid, Raymond Reid and Shelley Reid; a sister, Reba Dent; and grandchildren, Stephen Christopher Smith and Ashley Tabor Smith. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers be to a favorite charity. Following the service, the family will receive friends and loved ones at the Pampa Country Club. He will be missed and loved always. Amarillo Globe-News, July 11, 2001 Robert E. Boeckel PAMPA - Robert E. "Bob" Boeckel, 78, died Monday, July 9, 2001. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Miami Cemetery at Miami, with the Rev. Doug Yates, Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice chaplain of Pampa, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Boeckel was born Dec. 28, 1922, in Hazen, N.D. He attended school in Fairview, Mont. He was a corporal in the Marine Corps, serving during World War II in the South Pacific, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal and the Volcano Islands. He married Bea Lachemeier in 1948 at Hardin, Mont. He retired from Transystems Inc. in 1987 as a truck superintendent. He was a member of Pampa Senior Citizens. Mr. Boeckel was preceded in death by five brothers, Albert, Emil, Walter, Alvin and Hayden Boeckel. Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnne and Tom Wheeler of Canadian; a sister and brother-in-law, Freida and Elmer Aman; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gordon and Joann Boeckel and Floyd and Verl Ann Boeckel; three granddaughters and husbands, Shilo and Wayland Forbes, Shantelle and Stuart Hefner and Rhonda and Kenny Fox; three stepgrandchildren, Terry Wheeler, Tonya Lookingbill and Marla Stanford; and three great-grandchildren. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Rix Funeral Directors. Mr. Aguillon was born on July 18, 1912, in Monterrey, Mexico. He married Esther Mendez in 1937 at San Paulo, Neuvo Leon, Mexico. Mrs. Jackson was born in Dalhart and grew up and attended school in Vega. She moved to Amarillo in 1951. She attended Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Mrs. Jackson had been a manager of accounting and investments for over 40 years. Before her retirement she was an investment manager for Western National Life Insurance Co. She was a certified graphoanalyst, which is a handwriting analysis expert. Survivors include her husband, Royce "Buck" Jackson; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Molly Jackson of Amarillo; two brothers, Harold Dillehay of Canyon and Jerry O'Connor of Wildorado; and a grandson, Tyler Jackson. Burial will be in Forest Lawn at Glendale, Calif. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. McNeill was born in Brocket, N.D. She had lived in Amarillo for six years. She married Donald McNeill in 1937 at New York City. She was one of 10 children born to James and Mary Becvar, who emigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald McNeill. Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Daugherty of Bainbridge Island, Wash., and Evelyn McNeill of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; a son, Bruce McNeill of Midland; three sisters, Alice Thompson of San Luis Obispo, Agnes Winters of Adelphi, Md., and Josephine Zaeske of Leonard, N.D.; two granddaughters, Wendy Rising of Amarillo and Theresa McNeill of Rockledge, Fla.; four grandsons, Michael Spellman of Jamesville, N.Y., Edward McNeill and Richard McNeill both of Rockledge and Steven McNeill of Midland; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. "Hoss" Toler, 38, formerly of Belen, died Saturday, July 7, 2001. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Santa Fe National Cemetery with the John Carpenter, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel in Albuquerque. Mr. Toler graduated from Belen High School in 1981. He was state runner-up two years in wrestling as a heavyweight. He played football. He recently attended his 20th school reunion. Steven loved New Mexico. He enjoyed bull riding and bulldogging in the rodeo and was good at breaking horses in his younger years. He served his country in the Navy as an air traffic controller. Hoss also wrestled in the Navy. Survivors include his parents, Robert and Eleanor Toler of Amarillo; a sister, Mary Katherine Hawkins and husband, Russell, of Amarillo; a nephew, Wesley; and an aunt, Helen Bender.
