Hughes WHITE DEER - Harry I. Hughes, 93, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, in Pampa. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Toni Bailey, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in White Deer Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Hughes was born March 22, 1908, in Letona, Ark. He was reared there and moved to the Texas Panhandle in the late 1920s. He married Lois Hinton on Dec. 23, 1941, in Pampa. He was a tech sergeant with the Army Air Corps, serving during World War II in Africa and the Middle East. He was a mechanic for Cabot Carbon Companies from 1946 until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of White Deer Lions Club and was a city alderman for 10 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent, was on the board of trustees and was involved in other lay functions of the church. Survivors include his wife; a son, H. Wayne Hughes of Amarillo; two daughters, Susie Powell of Dallas and Jean Glick of Pine, Colo.; a brother, Calvin Hughes of Searcy, Ark.; and three grandchildren. Ms. Munson was born March 27, 1914, in Whitehouse, Ky. She lived in LaJunta, Colo., before moving to Dumas a month ago. She was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. She was assistant director of the senior citizens center. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; five brothers; a grandson, John Godinez; and two husbands, John C. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mr. Matheson was born Feb. 13, 1914, in Paradise. He was a resident of Claude from 1974 until moving to Amarillo earlier this year. He married Jimmie Lee Cole on Dec. 22, 1936, at Childress. He was a law enforcement officer, a cattle rancher and heavy equipment operator much of his life before retiring in 1966. He was a charter member of Elks Lodge in Sierra Vista, Ariz., and a member of the Cochise County Sheriff's Posse in Arizona. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife; a son, Donald W. Matheson and wife, Lynn, of Arlington; three grandchildren, Deborah Gorkowski of Tucson, Ariz., Dwayne Matheson of Landry Air Force Base, Va., and Dannie Lee Alvarez of Tracy, Calif.; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He moved to Kalispell in 1988. He had worked for Semi-Tool as a machinist for several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He was preceded in death by his mother on Dec. 29, 1982, and his grandmother, Reva Lee.
