Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Avenue Baptist Church with Jim Bulin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Rix Funeral Directors. Elizabeth Laura Duckworth was born on June 21, 1912, in Pawnee, Okla., to Robert Emerson and Elsie Duckworth. She married Emmitt Manley on Dec. 24, 1932, in Pawnee. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Rex Manley of Hereford, Max Manley of Lubbock and Don Manley of Plainview; a daughter, Sandra Manley of Corpus Christi; a sister, Doris Smith of Bozeman, Mont.; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Cooper, 78, died Monday, June 11, 2001. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rex Krusel and the Rev. Vince Sandlin officiating. Burial will be in East Mound Cemetery at Matador by Seigler Funeral Home. Mr. Cooper was a rancher and operated a fuel dealership in Matador. Survivors include his wife, Jean; a son, Jim Cooper of Matador; a daughter, Nancy Cooper of Oklahoma City; a sister, Geneva Griffin of Lubbock; and three grandsons. Arrangements are by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home. Mrs. McGhee married Ralph McGhee on June 15, 1939, in Dickens. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a sister, Ruth Dutton of Floydada. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Jeff Raines, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Funeral Cemetery. Mrs. Sims married George E. Sims, July 4, 1934, in Alden, Kan. She was a sales representative for more than 50 years for Luzier Cosmetics. An avid bridge player, she was Life Master and National Director of the American Contract Bridge League and taught bridge for 15 years at Amarillo College. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and former director of Job's Daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Propp of Sterling, Colo.; a son, Jeffrey Sims of Amarillo; two sisters, Margie Rogers of Casper, Wyo., and Eva Erwin of Douglas, Ga.; four grandchildren, Sharon Worrell, Lori Armstrong, Lisa Ecklund and Casey Simms; and three great-grandchildren, Nicole Armstrong, Tyson Armstrong and Joshua Worrell. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Community of Grace United Methodist Church, 1525 N. Grand, with Terry Sparks, pastor, and the Rev. Jessie Cortez officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Golden Gate Mortuary, 1416 N. Hughes St. Mrs. Miller was born July 8, 1904 to Milton and Mary Wilson of Hubbard City. She had been a member of the Methodist church for more than 70 years. When she moved to Amarillo she united with Wesley Community Church, which later became Wyatt Memorial United Methodist Church and is now Community of Grace United Methodist Church. She was a faithful, devoted member until her health failed. She was the mother of the church, serving as Communion Steward, Usher and various other positions in the church. She was a member of City Wide Ushers and United Methodist Women. She was a cook at Patton High School, USO Club and for Dr. A. Early for 30 years. Survivors include a son, William Cortez of Amarillo; a sister, Thelma Thomas of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a cousin, Francis Thrower; and numerous nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, June 13, 2001 William V. Garland William V. "Bill" Garland, 77, of Amarillo, died Monday, June 11, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Chapel, 5400 Bell St., with the Rev. Claud Tugwell, retired, and L.D. McNall officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery East with flag honors rendered by the Navy. Mr. Garland was a Baptist. He married Norma Lee Abbott on Jan. 21, 1947. He served in the Navy during World War II, from 1942 to 1945, aboard the USS LST-628. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Garland graduated from Goodnight High School in 1940. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Lee Garland, in 1994. Survivors include a son, Carl Garland of Amarillo; a brother, George Garland of Washington; a sister, Mary Lee McNall of Washington; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in the church by the Rev. Sotero Sena. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Saiz married Virginia Barela Feb. 19, 1966, in Clovis. He was a deputy sheriff at Clovis, Portales, Hobbs, Chama, Eunice, Lovington, and Pecos. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Barela Saiz of Hobbs; a son, Ruben Saiz Jr. of Hobbs; four daughters, Mary Prudence Saiz of Shreveport, La., Desiree Saiz of the home and Patricia Couger and Katherine Saiz, both of Hobbs; his mother, Prudence Saiz of Clovis; four brothers, Robert Saiz, Phillip Saiz, Sailo Saiz and Paul Saiz, all of Clovis; five sisters, Virginia Garcia of Nara Visa, Mary Ann Prior of Clovis, Irene Wilde of Beaverton, Ore., Sandra Larsen of Ludington, Mich., and Judy Menold of Torrance, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Mrs. Pierce was the daughter of Bertha Hudspeth and George Raymond McNee, born July 22, 1913, in the Eva community. She was united in marriage to James "Pete" Pierce on Nov. 3, 1937, in Guymon. Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Simpson of Sweeny, Texas; a son, Russell Pierce of Konawa, Okla.; a sister, Beulah Pickard of Tecumseh; a brother, Floyd McNee of Sallisaw; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News,June 13, 2001 Elsewhere Harold C. McCommon - Harold C. McCommon, 79, died Friday, June 8, 2001. Services were at 1 p.m. Sunday in Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Shreveport. Mr. McCommon retired as a major from the Air Force and was a veteran of World War II in India. He was the original owner of the Silver Minnow Bait House in Shreveport in the 1970s. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Clark McCommon, formerly of Amarillo; a son, Dana McCommon of Shreveport; a daughter, Amy Sue Connors of Port Lavaca, Texas: two stepsons, James R. Whitten of Natchitoches and Randy Clark of Albuquerque, N.M.; a stepdaughter, Cherry Beasley of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
