Darter WELLINGTON- Charles W. Darter, 64, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church with his sons, Dr. Craig Darter and Charles W. Darter Jr., officiating. Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Darter was born on March 13, 1937, in Childress to Clarence and Marie Compton Darter. He married Annese Thomas on Sept. 23, 1960, in Ramsey, N.J. He received his bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University in 1959 and graduated from Baylor School of Law in 1966. He served in the Army from 1959 to 1962. He moved to Wellington in 1969 and opened his law practice. He served as the 100th Judicial District Attorney from 1974 to 1979. He was the Collingsworth County attorney from 1983 to present. He was active in the youth baseball league from 1967 to 1976. He was a former member of the Rotary Club, Wellington Kiwanis Club and charter member of the Wellington Country Club. He was a member of the First Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Annese; his mother, Marie Darter of Childress; two sons, Charles W. Darter Jr. of Lubbock and Dr. Thomas Craig Darter of Childress; a brother, C.L. Mr. Knight grew up in Tulia and lived there until moving to Amarillo in the 1950s. He farmed, served in the Army during World War II and drove cattle trucks. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 14, 2001 Elsewhere Don D. Williams - Don D. Williams, 82, of Waco and formerly of Amarillo, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Connally-Compton Funeral Directors with the Rev. Buddy Sipe officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery of Waco. Mr. Williams was born May 23, 1919, near Claude, to the late I.C. and Xenia Williams. He attended Amarillo High School and the University of Texas. He enjoyed a distinguished career in football, making All-State at the University of Texas in 1941 and later playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. On Jan. 27, 1947, he married Winnifred Faherty. Mr. Williams spent 26 years in the service of his county as a civil engineer in the Air Force, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel. He served in the Pacific during World War II. Later assignments included Korea, England, Taiwan, and Alaska and various other locations in the United States. Mr. Williams was awarded numerous medals for distinguished service and retired in 1967. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association and the Good Sam Travel Club. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, I.C. Williams Jr. and Rex Williams; and a great-grandson, Daniel Meek. Survivors include a daughter, Victoria Meek of Waco; a sister, Ruth Wagner of Amarillo; a brother, Ray Williams of Tempe, Ariz.; three grandsons, Kevin Meek and Patrick Meek, both of Waco and Eric Meek of Garland; and six great-grandchildren. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy and then attended Loretta Heights College in Denver. She married Jack Beckerman in 1952. She moved to Woodland Hills in 1967. Following the war, he served as a policeman in Abilene and later worked for El Paso Natural Gas, retiring in 1980. She married L.D. Eubanks Jr. on Jan. 15, 1945, in Gadsden, Ala. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Francis Eubanks in 1945; two grandchildren, Derrick Jason Hudson in 1987, and James Earl Eubanks in 1993; and a sister, Mary Harris in 1994. Survivors include her husband, L.D. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 14, 2001 Patrick Van McAlister MANGUM, Okla. - Patrick Van McAlister, 21, of Amarillo and formerly of Mangum, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001. Services will be at 12:30 p.m. today in Church of Christ with Terry Danley of Perryton and Todd McRay of Mangum officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery by Greer Funeral Home. Mr. McAlister was born in Mangum on Feb. 24, 1980, to Jerry Pat and Nancy VanVacter McAlister. He attended high school in Perryton, Texas, graduating in 1998. He was a three-year resident of Amarillo, where he lacked one semester completing a degree in computer graphics and design. He had been a full-time student at Amarillo College. Prior to living in Amarillo, he lived with his family in Perryton. Patrick was a very creative and excellent artist and musician. He gave every endeavor 100 percent plus. He loved people and considered loyalty to his church, his friends, and family a virtue. He was polite and filled with compassion for all of God's creations. He loved the Lord and depended on the avenue of prayer to help when times were bad. Patrick valued his individuality, and was an independent thinker. He gave his love freely to all who would accept it. Patrick was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents. Survivors include his father and mother of Frederick; and numerous other relatives and a great many friends. Mr. Butler married Peggy Ann Thomas March 31, 1955, in Santa Fe. He was a pharmacist and owned and operated the Medical Center Pharmacy until his retirement in 1993.
