Burial will be in Paducah Garden of Memories Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home. Mr. Chaney was born Dec. 21, 1928, in Paducah to Marion and Blanche Turner Chaney. He served his country in the Army during the Korean conflict. He married Bobbye Stofel on Dec. 19, 1950, in Paducah. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Paducah. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Chaney and Kenneth "Bud" Chaney; and two sisters, Vivian Canon and Renelda Rushing. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 16, 2001 Beatrice Bullard PAMPA - Beatrice Bullard, 75, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Nachtigall, pastor of Highland Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Bullard was born May 23, 1926, in Eagletown, Okla. She was a Methodist and owned Pak-a-Burger from 1982 to 1990 before retiring. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Dooley of Sunray and Doris Watkins of Pampa; a son, Marion Johnson of Duncan, Okla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 16, 2001 John Benjamin Horton Jr. John Benjamin Horton Jr., 84, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Portsmouth, Va. Local arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Horton was known as John, Ben, Grand Pops and Dad. He was a longtime resident of Portsmouth and moved to Pampa in September 1998. He lived with his son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Kerrick Horton, until his death. He was born in Cove Creek, N.C., on Nov. 22, 1917. He moved to Portsmouth in 1940 and served in the Merchant Marine. After his discharge he worked as a welder in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard from 1942 until the end of World War II. After the end of the war he worked for Sears and Roebuck in Norfolk for 20 years. He then opened the Wayside Hardware Store and operated it until 1986. He retired and worked part-time at Portsmouth Bowl and Portsmouth Airport until moving to Pampa. He married Helen Palmer in Boone, N.C., in 1939. Two children were born of the marriage, JoAnne Horton Dickens of Charlotte, N.C., and John Benjamin Horton III (Benny) of Pampa. He was a member of Aldersgate Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge, Men's Bowling Association, and Pilots Association of Portsmouth. He also belonged to the Pampa Senior Citizens, Pampa Men's Bowling Association and First Presbyterian Church of Pampa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 1996; and a granddaughter, Dana Marie Dickens, in 1983. Survivors include a son, Benny Horton and wife, Kerrick, of Pampa; a daughter, JoAnne Dickens and husband, Reggie, of Charlotte; and three grandchildren, J.B. Horton IV of Washington,D.C., Meredith Horton Bagwell and husband, Jason, of Amarillo and Jerry Bryant Dickens and wife, Stephanie, of Portsmouth. The family will be at 2533 Duncan in Pampa. Mrs. Hale married Roy E. Hale in Waldron, Ark., on June 7, 1946. She moved to Arizona in 1946, before moving to Amarillo in 1986. She was an active member at Central Church of Christ in Mesa before joining Paramount Terrace Christian Church in Amarillo. She was an avid china painter and a talented artist. She was a loving wife and mother, devoting her life to help ing others. She was considered everyone's "Mama Sue." Survivors include her husband, Roy; a daughter, Rebecca Lee Richeson of Johnson City, Tenn.; a son, Thomas Alan Hale of Phoenix; a sister, Bobbie Waggoner of Pampa; a brother, K.D. "Al" Mathis, 86, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, in Amarillo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church of Hooker with Ron Mims officiating. Burial will be in Hooker Cemetery by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home of Hooker. Mr. Mathis was born April 11, 1915, in Moline, Texas, the son of Ed and Jennie Woolsey Mathis. The second chapter of his life began on Jan. 27, 1994, when he was united in marriage to Letha Judd. They enjoyed golfing, traveling around the United States and visiting with their kids. They had a wonderful life. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hooker and served the youth of Hooker for more than 10 years as a member of the Hooker School Board. He was president of the Blackmer Municipal Golf Club and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Loerine; his parents; and a grandson, Benjamin Scott Mathis. Survivors include his wife, Letha; three sons, Richard and wife, Janet, of Golden, Colo., Bob and wife, Ann, of Belle Vista, Ark., and Bill and wife, Rita, of Montgomery, Ala.; two stepdaughters, Vicki Hofferber and husband, Larry, of Hooker and Sherri Lackey and husband, Doug, of Marietta, Ga.; two brothers, Floyd Mathis of Hooker and Ted Mathis and wife, Audrey, of Canon City, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
