Services were at 2 p.m. Monday in Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Smith of Michigan and the Rev. Bill Sizemore, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors. Mr. Ray was a native of Greer County, Okla., and had been a Borger resident for 49 years. He had been a manager for Panhandle Crane Service and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Fannie, of the home; a son, Jerry Ray of Irving; a daughter, Robin Harrington of Borger; four brothers, Donald Ray of St. Louis, Norvel Ray of Las Vegas, Mernie Ray of Yukon, Okla., and Gary Ray of Grand Prairie; five sisters, Bernice Hand of Del City, Okla., Sylvia Crump of Junction City, Ore., Roberta Kuklenski of Tulsa, Okla., Roxie Ray of Waco and Neva Madole of Norman, Okla.; and three grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Jan. 16, 2001 Joyce Shawhart MEMPHIS - Joyce "Nannie" Shawhart, 73, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. O.K. Bowen officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Memphis Funeral Home. Mrs. Shawhart was born in Reno, Texas, and had lived in Memphis 57 years. She graduated "Nightingale" top of the class from a licensed vocational nursing school and worked in the health care industry 55 years. She worked for three generations of Dr.'s Robert E. Clark, father, son, and grandson. She was a Baptist. She married Arlie Shawhart in 1942 at Lamar County. He died in 1988. Survivors include a daughter, Louise Lebow of Pampa; a son, Mark L. She earned a degree in education from West Texas State College. She taught at Margaret Wills Elementary School in Amarillo for a short time before moving to Espanola, N.M., where she taught until retiring. She returned to Amarillo seven years ago and was a member of Olsen Park Baptist Church. She married Y. Jack Miller in 1934. He died in 1968. She married Cliff Groff in 1966. He preceded her in death in 1990. Survivors include a son, Jackie B. Miller of Santa Fe, N.M.; a daughter, Eva Jo Sudbury of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She graduated from Muleshoe High School and was a bank teller for 12 years. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She and her husband moved in 1992 to Amarillo, where she was a convenience store manager for five years. She was a member of Prairie View Baptist Church. She married Ray Allen Williams Sr. in 1952 at Muleshoe. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ray Allen Williams Jr. and Joseph Roland Williams, both of Amarillo; two daughters, Sharon Kay Shipley of Midland and Jacqueline Ruth Whisennand of Blythe, Calif.; a sister, Velma Howell of Muleshoe; and 10 grandchildren. She graduated from Littlefield High School and from the Plainview Hospital Nursing School. She was a registered nurse in Carlsbad, N.M., before marrying Ray J. Reiser in 1941. In 1948, she moved to Amarillo, where she went to work for Northwest Texas Hospital in 1951. She worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital. Survivors include a daughter, Gay Reiser Cannon of Arlington; a sister, Robbie Ernestine Martino; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Austin was born in Wellington, Kan. She moved to Amarillo from Waynoka, Okla., in 1949. She was a retired cafeteria manager of the Amarillo Independent School District. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star Amarillo Chapter No. 787 and past Mother Adviser of the Palo Duro Rainbow Girls Assembly No. 113. She was a United Methodist. She married Audrey Delbert Austin in 1926 at Newton, Kan. He died in 1983. Survivors include three daughters, Virginia A. Prince-Baggerman of Amarillo, Gayle F. Hensley of Meridian and Karen A. Case of Flower Mound; two sisters, Frances Gray Randall of Prescott, Ariz., and Erma A. Wells of Amarillo; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Golden Gate Mortuary, 1416 N. Hughes St. Mr. Brackens was born in Amarillo. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1978 and attended Southwestern Union College in Keene. He worked at ASARCO, where he was presented with the Certificate of Safety Award for 16 years without lost time due to injury or illness. Survivors include his parents, Roosevelt and Delma Brackens of Amarillo; four sisters, Deborah Brackens of Mitchellville, Md., and Alsandra Brackens, Inez Brackens and Leigh Ann Brackens, all of Amarillo; a brother, Roosevelt L. Brackens Jr., of Aurora, Colo.; and a family friend, Bradley Hanvey. The body will be available for viewing from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. He served in the Army. In 1951, he returned from Plainview to Amarillo, where he worked for ASARCO. He retired in 1975. He was a musician and played with the "Hillybilly Playboys." Mr. York married Mildred Sessions in 1950 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth York of Amarillo; a son, Bill York III of Coppell; a brother, Steve Taylor of Amarillo; and a grandchild. Survivors include two sons, Joshua Wayne Ferguson of Amarillo and Garison Scot Ferguson of Round Rock, Texas; her parents, Tommy and Margaret Mason of Duncan; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Prine of Midland, Texas, and Delora Mason of Lawton; and a granddaughter. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Littlefield Memorial Park with Jud Wilhite, associate minister of Paramount Terrace Christian Church in Amarillo, officiating. Arrangements are by Hammons Funeral Home. Mrs. Harms was born in Jean and raised on the family farm in Lamb County near Amherst. She graduated from Amherst High School in 1939. She moved to rural Ackley, Iowa in 1944, returned to Littlefield in 1962, then moved to Amarillo in 1995. She worked for R.H. Donnelley Corp. in Nevada, Iowa from 1953 to 1962. She was a part-time typist, bookkeeper and seamstress. She was a homemaker and a member of the Steamboat Rock, Iowa Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church in Littlefield. She married Wilbert Harms in 1944 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Leona Chadwick of Amarillo; and two brothers; Adrian Veach and Kennedy Veach, both of Littlefield. The family suggest memorials be to BSA Hospice in Amarillo or the Amarillo College Foundation. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home.
