Edelmon DUMAS - Martin W. "Bill" Edelmon, 56, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Venable, pastor of First Baptist Church in Hartley, officiating. Masonic Rites will be conducted by Lodge No. 1009 of Dumas. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 244 of Dumas. Mr. Edelmon was born Sept. 6, 1945, in Plainview. He had been a resident of Dumas since 1986. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He married Nonie Roberts on April 4, 1969, in Dumas. He was formerly employed by GTE and Miller Machine Co. He was a longtime member of Dumas Masonic Lodge No. 1009, York Rite and Scottish Rite. He was in the Army from 1964 to 1986. He served two tours in Vietnam and was a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maudene Edelmon on Feb. 7, 1993. Survivors include his wife, Nonie; a son, Marty Edelmon of Dumas; his father, Claude Edelmon of Memphis; and a sister, Judy Stewart of Memphis. The family will be at 503 Cherry, Dumas, TX 79029. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Gorman Cemetery of Gorman. Mr. Hooper married Arlene Fuller on June 7, 1951, in Gorman. He was a farmer and rancher for H.R. Taylor, and was the district manager for Permian Bryan Sales & Service for 23 years. Survivors include his wife, Arlene; a daughter, Velia Bowers of Bishop, Calif.; a son, Jimmy D. Mr. Gonzales was born April 13, 1924, in Garita. For many years he was a ranch hand working at the T-4 Cattle Co. in Montoya. She moved to Amarillo with her parents in 1926, a few months before she was 4 years of age. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1940 and spent one year at Amarillo College. After attending West Texas State for one year, she enrolled in Texas Technological College in 1942, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in home economics in 1944. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Phi Upsilon Omicron, a professional home economics honorary fraternity. She was named one of the outstanding women students at Texas Tech. After working in the war effort at the Pantex Ordnance Plant, she accepted a position as home economist for Southwestern Public Service Co. In 1952, she received the Laura McCall Award as one of the nation's top 10 home economists. The award was presented at the Edison Electric Institute in Chicago. This award, the highest recognition in her profession, was given for achievement and advanced thinking in the field of electrical living. As a recipient of the award, she was featured in McCall's magazine. In 1953, she was promoted to Director of Home Economics for Southwestern Public Service Co. and remained in that position until her marriage to Bert Ballengee in 1956. She was a longtime member of Polk Street Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Bert; a son, Ben Brannen Ballengee of Austin; a daughter, Ann Claire Carlson of Dallas; and two grandchildren, Susanna Brannen Carlson and John Hayden Carlson, both of Dallas. Mr. Cordell was born July 6, 1915, in Beebe, Ark., to George Anderson Cordell and Myrtle Garrison Cordell. He was married Oct. 14, 1939, in Panhandle to Mona Luzelle Bailey. They moved to Amarillo in 1955. He was a retired tire salesman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mona, on Aug. 28, 2001; a son, Jonathan David Cordell on Dec. 13, 1970; six sisters; and a brother. Survivors include four sons, Hugh, Orville, Ivan and Tony, all of Panhandle; five daughters-in-law, Patsy, Edith, Ravina, and Deanna, all of Panhandle, and Karon Smith of Amarillo; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She graduated from Amarillo High School and attended the University of Texas at Arlington. She graduated from West Texas State University in 1992 with a bachelor of arts degree with a certificate of interdisciplinary studies. She was a preschool teacher for a while at First Christian Church and later was an instrumental music instructor for many of the elementary schools in the Amarillo Independent School District. Most recently she was the instrumental music instructor at Sam Houston Middle School and the school's orchestra director. She was also the assistant orchestra director for Tascosa High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Texas Music Educators Association. Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Sandy and Mort Sain of Dodson; a brother, Matthew Hobson of New York City; and a stepbrother, Danny Sain of Dodson.
