Cardenas HEREFORD - Rosa B. Cardenas, 63, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001. Prayer services were at 7 p.m. Sunday in Rix Funeral Directors chapel in Hereford. A second prayer service will be at 6 p.m. today in Fisher Funeral Home of Kiowa, Kan. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Highland Cemetery at Medicine Lodge, Kan. Mrs. Cardenas was born Feb. 2, 1938, in Trementina, N.M. She married Simon M. Cardenas on Sept. 9, 1958, in Hereford. Survivors include two sons, Albert Cardenas of San Antonio and Simon Cardenas Jr. of Fort Worth; a daughter, Glenda White of Irving; six sisters, Ruby Martinez, Lillie Gamboa, Elsie Apodaca and Cathy Lucero, all of Hereford, Helen Reyes of Canyon and Jane Blea of Irving; four brothers, Gilbert Blea of Midland, David Blea and Steven Blea, both of Irving, and Obed Blea of Hereford; and six grandchildren. Haworth, 80, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church of Borger with the Rev. Jim Terry, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Haworth was born in Gate, Okla., Jan. 22, 1921, and had been a Borger resident since 1947. He served in the Navy as a lieutenant junior grade during World War II. He retired with Phillips Petroleum Co. as a supervisor at the Philtex Plant in 1985. He attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University from 1938 to 1941 and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1942. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, board member of Opportunities Inc. and worked with the Boy Scouts and Borger Little League for many years. He was the Sunday school teacher for the Friendship class. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elver Haworth; and a sister, Pauline Huneke. Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, Mark Haworth and wife, Nan, and Kirk Haworth and wife, Linda, all of Amarillo; a sister, Esther Endres of Bixby, Okla.; and six grandchildren, Carmen Haworth, Sunny Haworth, Lindsay Haworth, Cullen Haworth, Christy Haworth and Shawn Haworth. Mr. Miller was raised in Keyes. He served in the Army during World War II. Troy Lemley, 73, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001. Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church at Clarendon with the Rev. James Ivey Edwards officiating. Cremation and arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Coach Troy Lemley retired from a 38-year teaching and coaching career in 1987. His last season coaching was the last year Phillips High School fielded a basketball team; not coincidentally, that was also the last year a son played for him. His final season concluded a 14-year stretch during which at least one of his sons played on his teams at Hedley and Phillips. He was a Crosbyton native and coached at McAdoo, Smyer, Springlake-Earth, Lockney, Aspermont, Hedley and for the last nine years, at Phillips. He compiled a 626-295 record in his coaching career. He was not only proud of his teams' winning records, but was very proud of the success of his many students and players in their careers and endeavors. Survivors include his wife, Midge; a daughter, Amy Lemley of Wichita, Kan.; four sons, John Lemley of Stillwater, Okla., Joe Lemley of Clarendon, Ben Lemley of Amarillo and Vic Lemley of Opelousas, La.; and eight grandchildren. Dr. Devanney was born March 9, 1910. He married Laura Elizabeth Hopkins on Oct. 6, 1939. He was a naval doctor in the Marines during World War II and was awarded a medal of honor for bravery for his efforts in the South Pacific. He was a retired urologist after 27 years of practice. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998. Survivors include two sons, John Thomas Devanney and wife, Margo, of Salem, Ore., and Louis R. Mr. Banks was born May 26, 1980, in Elk City to Teresa Jean and Dennis Lee Banks. He grew up in Elk City where he graduated from Elk City High School in 1999. He was an active member of the track team that won the state championship in 1999 where he placed third in the state in the pole vault and was an all stater. He was also a member of the cross country state championship team. He was an avid sportsman and spent much of his spare time as a taxidermist. He was married to Tiffany Joan (Milburn) in Canadian, Texas, on Jan. 27, 2001, and they moved to the Sweetwater community to make their home. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
