He was a retired motor home mechanic for Jack Sisemore Traveland. Survivors include five sons, John Joseph Hagan of Ojho, Calif., Dane and Kenny Hagan both of Amarillo, Pete Hagan of Lexington, Ky., and Joe Hagan of Bullhead, Ariz.; four daughters, Patty Hagan of Kansas, Teresa Hagan and Nora Duncan both of Amarillo, and Barbara Deise of Mesa Ariz.; and 15 grandchildren. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Stafford married Elnora Copeland in 1953 at Fort Sumner, N.M. He worked as a safety engineer at Pantex for 27 years, retiring in 1997. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Karen Ann Simmons of Clarendon; two sons, Tommy Stafford and Steve Strafford, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Dean Holt of Oklahoma City and Carolyn Fields of Bryan; three brothers, Raymond Stafford of Phoenixville, Pa., Arvin Stafford of Slaton and Dale Stafford of Little Rock, Ark.; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Simmons and Jamie Simmons both of Clarendon, and Amy Stafford of Amarillo; and two grandsons, Trey Stafford and Cody Stafford, both of Amarillo. Mrs. Pennington retired as the site manager from San Jacinto Senior Center. For the past several years she prepared and delivered Thanksgiving meals to 'her' seniors. She was born in Milagro, N.M. She moved to Amarillo in 1952. Survivors include three daughters, Patsy Romero Rickwartz, Ramona Romero Carlson and Mary Ann Romero Renteria, all of Amarillo; two sons, Lee Romero of Lumberton and Daniel Rocha of Amarillo; two sisters, Maria Baca of Albuquerque, N.M., and Virginia Baca Romero of Santa Rosa, N.M.; five brothers, Isidro Baca and Floyd Baca, both of Amarillo, and Louie Baca, Bennie Baca and Junior Baca, all of Santa Rosa; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Watts was born in Selma, Ala. He was a paint contractor in Amarillo since 1977. Survivors include his wife, Noreenia Brunson Watts; two sons, Johnny Watts and Mark Watts; and four grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, March 17, 2001 Canyon Eugene H. Sunderman Eugene H. Sunderman, 87, of Canyon, died Friday, March 16, 2001, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Peach, pastor of First Baptist Church in Vega, and the Rev. Clark Williams, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Sunderman was born in St. Marys, W.Va., on Nov. 6, 1913. He was the head football coach and athletic director at the University of Corpus of Corpus Christi (now Corpus Christi A&M). In February he was installed as the first inductee in the Athletic Hall of Fame at Corpus Christi A&M. He also was the head football coach at Happy, Dalhart, Merkle, Estelline, Bedias, and Decatur Baptist Junior College, tallying a 109-13 coaching record in high school football. In 1932, he was the state high school high jump champion. He was chosen as a "Little All American" in 1935 while playing football at Howard Payne University. Since retiring from coaching in 1961, he was involved in numerous private businesses in Amarillo and Canyon. In 1999, Mr. Sunderman was awarded the Dictionary of International Biography's 20th Century Award for Achievement for "Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Education and Sports." He served in the Army during World War II, and received the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lucius Penick Post No. 5681. Mr. Sunderman was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canyon and the Crusaders Sunday school class. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Hazel; three sons, Kirby of The Woodlands, Max of Vega and Kyle of Lubbock; a daughter, Kelly Craig of Canyon; two brothers, Dr. Frank Sunderman of Sinton and LTC, retired, Chris Sunderman of Aledo; 12 grandchildren; and a greatgranddaughter. Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Kersten was born Aug. 17, 1931, to Ziliba J. Neeley and Opal Norman Neeley in Quail. She was a lifetime resident of Collingsworth County. Following graduation from Quail High School in 1948, she moved to Wellington. She married Ronald Kersten on Oct. 2, 1949, in Wellington. She was a homemaker, and a member of the First Christian Church. Mrs. Kersten was preceded in death by a sister, Alpha Brock. Survivors include her husband, Ronald Kersten of Wellington; three daughters, Rhonda Joy Rutkowski of Canyon, Pamela Odom of Dimmitt and Kathy Kersten of Panhandle; three sisters, Jonnie Handley of Amarillo, Faye Cunningham of Spearman and Fern Jett Syracuse, Kan.; four brothers, Raymond Neeley and Jack Neeley, both of Wellington, and Z.J. Neeley and Walter Neeley, both of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Heckathorn was born Dec. 17, 1926, in Morton, the daughter of the late Alpheus and Mammy (Arnold) Mills. She and W.W. Heckathorn were married April 4, 1947, at Childress. Survivors include her husband; a son, Mike Heckathorn of Quanah; a daughter, Cathy Wimberley of Quanah; a brother, Garland Mills of Blair, Okla.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Vinyard was born Jan. 18, 1914, in Atoka, Okla. He was a truck driver. Branscum, both of Pampa, and Johnny Musgrave, Eddie Musgrave and Ricky Musgrave, all of Dallas; a grandmother, Allie Tate of Pampa; a special friend, Kelley Williams of Lake Meredith; and a stepson, Jon Williams of Lake Meredith. Andy Graham officiating. Arrangements are by Lunn Funeral Home. Mr. Logan was born March 20, 1925, in Lockney to the late W.R. and Clara Estel (Mercer) Logan. He and Zelma Olene Jeter were married in San Antonio in 1977. She died Jan. 30, 1985. A retired engineer, he had worked 30 years for Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and past Master of the Childress Masonic Lodge No. 695 AF&AM. He was a Shriner and a member of the Mascat Temple in Wichita Falls. Mr. Logan served in the Navy. He moved to Childress in 1978. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include three sons, William Logan of Crowley, James Logan of Fort Worth and Robert Logan of Farmington, N.M.; a stepson, Lance Griggs of Fort Worth; a sister, Willie Estel Guttormson of Olney; 10 grandchildren; and 10 greatgrandchildren. J D will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Mrs. Langewisch was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin J. Langewisch on Feb. 28, 2001. Survivors include a sister, Elsie M. Payne of Dumas.
