Gholston M.D. Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeff Conway officiating. Private family service will be in Llano Garden Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Dr. Gholston was born in Amarillo. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1945, served a year in the Navy and obtained his bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Oklahoma in 1950. He married Imogene Ingram on Feb. 24, 1951, at Beggs, Okla. After practicing pharmacy for a few years, Don began medical school as a married man with two little girls. He and his wife took on the daunting goal of pursuing medical training to the subspecialty level while adding three more little ones to the family. Dr. Gholston attended Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and followed with internship and residency in Denver and a cardiology fellowship in Louisville. He opened his cardiology practice, the first in the Panhandle, in Amarillo in 1964. Professional affiliations included Potter-Randall County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association and American College of Cardiology. Dr. Gholston was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity and belonged to Westminster Presbyterian Church. This former tennis player, trout fisherman and hunter found fly-fishing to be a wonderful late-life pursuit. The Rockies held a special place in his heart. He succeeded in transmitting many of his passions to his son, sons-in-law and grandsons. Patients and fellow health professionals remember Dr. Gholston as a caring, listening physician and an eager teacher. His retirement in August 2000 was a bittersweet event. To his friends, he was loyal and fun-loving. His family will always treasure the memory of a loving, supportive and utterly dependable husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lora and Thurman Gholston. She attended North Texas State College at Denton and has lived in Amarillo since 1956. She worked for more than 40 years in the oil and gas industry, retiring in 1994 from Earl T. Smith and Associates of Amarillo. She was a member and served as an officer of Desk and Derrick Club. She will be remembered as a loving mother, a cherished friend and a woman who freely gave her time, her talents and her treasure to help others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay L. Denton, in June 2000. He graduated from Panhandle High School and served as a flight instructor in the Army Air Corps during World War II. A lifelong cattleman and farmer, he retired from the Pantex Plant as a production stores warehouse foreman in 1979. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Panhandle. He married Vivian O'Neal on July 3, 1936, at Panhandle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vaughn and Nola Biggs, Panhandle pioneers, and his brother, Raymond Biggs. He had lived in Claude since 1977. He married Patsy Lorene Cummins on May 29, 1964, at Amarillo. He was a Navy veteran and was a truck driver most of his life. He was a member of Claude Church of Christ. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Cole Community Center in Canyon, Texas, with Kevin Naillieux, Berlin Raymond and John Mulford officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery at Canyon by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Bryan lost a 3b-year battle with cancer. He was born to Homer and Dorotha Bryan on March 17, 1934, at Happy, Texas. He attended schools at Happy, graduating in May 1952. He farmed for four years then owned and operated Bryan Construction since 1956. He lived and worked in Nacogdoches, Texas, Pampa, Texas, and Decatur, Texas, before moving to Fayetteville, then to Hindsville where he resided until his death. He was preceded in death by his father on Feb. 1, 1981; his son, Montye Lee Bryan, on Feb. 5, 1997; and a nephew, Kenny Bryan, on Dec. 31, 1997.
