He was a graduate of Big Spring High School and McMurry University in Abilene. He attended the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He served United Methodist Churches in Texas and New Mexico for nearly 41 years. He served on numerous annual conference boards, including McMurry University Board of Trustees for 18 years; Methodist Mission Home Board in San Antonio for 11 years; and Methodist Home for Children Board in Waco for 11 years. He served as chairman of the board of Health and Welfare of the New Mexico Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church for six years and was a member of the Landun Homes Retirement Center in Carlsbad, N.M., for six years. He was a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class of St. Luke United Methodist Church and the Retired United Ministers Group. It was his wish to have his remains donated to Texas Tech University Health Sciences for the advancement of biomedical science. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Davela Parker and Mary Nell Westmoreland, both of Denver City, and Patricia Edens of Midland; a son, D.
