Mr. Adelman was born in 1982 at Amarillo. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Bills was the son of William Craig and Zona Erma Tinnin Bills and was born at the family-owned Tinnin Tourist Hotel in Floydada. During World War II he joined the Navy as a Corpsman and served with the First and Third Marine Corps under Admiral Bill Halsey. He was engaged in the first wave attack in Guadalcanal and later in Guam with the purpose of establishing field hospitals. For these actions he received the Presidential Citation with five battle stars, a Purple Heart and other citations. During the Korean Conflict, he was recalled to service at the Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego. After his military service, he and his wife, Freddie, settled in San Diego with their growing family. He was married for 57 years and renewed his wedding vows on Valentine's Day. He owned barbershops for many years in the San Diego area. In 1978, he and Freddie decided to return to their roots in the Texas Panhandle. He was an agent for ICX Special Commodities Division and Columbine Carriers. Subsequently he became president of Bluebonnet Leasing Company, retiring in 1990. He joined the Co-ed Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in 1978 where he will be missed by many loving friends. He was preceded in death by a son, James Michael Bills in 1972. Survivors include his wife, Freddie Nell Beckham Bills; two daughters, Nell Bartlett and husband, Jim, of San Diego, and Janice Huddleston and husband, Bryan, of Salt Lake City; a son, John Randall Bills of Amarillo; a brother, W.C. Bills and wife, Ginger, of Tulsa, Okla.; his uncle, Algean Bills of Springtown; his aunt, Zepha Bills Pierce of Dallas; three nephews, Craig Bills, Steven Bills and Rick Bills, all of Tulsa, Okla.; a cousin, Glenette Tinnin Golightly and husband, Don, of Beaver, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Richard Hill and wife, Dana, Kris Hill, John Shank and wife, Claudia, Erick Shank, Josh Huddleston, Chris Huddleston and Julia Huddleston, all of Salt Lake City; and four great-grandchildren, Jackson Davis Hill, Katie Marie Shank, Megan Shank and Timothy Brock. Services were at 2 p.m. Thursday in Silverton Church of Christ with Ed Norris officiating. Burial was in Silverton Cemetery by Myers-Long Funeral Home. Local arrangements were by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Burson was born Dec. 23, 1908, on the "F" Ranch in Quitaque, to Miner and Eula Crawford. She married True Burson in 1929 and they lived on the family farm that was homesteaded by Jno. Burson. She moved from the farm to town in the summer of 1979. She was a resident of Silverton for 90 years. In September 2000, she left a treasure to each member of her family, her published memoirs. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977; a son, Don Burson in 1986; and a granddaughter, Karen Bixler in 1999. She was a member of United Methodist Church of Allison and Allison Methodist Women, where she served as president among other offices. She was a member of the Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981. Mrs. Simpson was born Sept. 26, 1901, in Roxton, to James Perry Williams and Viola Cockrell Williams. She had resided in Paris, Texas, and Hollis, Okla., before moving to Wellington several years ago. She was a homemaker. She married Raymond Pendergraft in 1919. He died in February 1974. She married Charles Simpson in 1981. He died in September 1989. She had been a resident of Wellington Care Center for the past 15 years. She was preceded in death by her two husbands and a daughter, Hazel McKinney, in October 1985. Survivors include three sons, Otis Pendergraft and John Pendergraft, both of Gainesville and Lee Pendergraft of Paris; a daughter, Sue Anderson of Martinez, Calif.; 44 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. (AP) - Dr. Robert Matthew Berne, a heart specialist and educator whose textbooks were used by generations of doctors, died Oct. 4 of lung cancer. He was 83. Berne, a professor emeritus at the University of Virginia Medical Center, was known for his research into how chemicals control blood flow and rhythms in the heart. He first reported on the subject in 1963 in one of the more than 200 papers he published over the years. His work earned him special citations from the American Heart Association in 1979 and 1985. GOP stalwart dies CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A man who cast the first vote on U.S. presidential election days for more than four decades died Wednesday of pneumonia. He was 102. In 1960, lifelong Republican Neil Tillotson the village of Dixville Notch to incorporate for voting. Every four years since, the community's voters gathered at midnight on election day in front of television cameras to cast the first votes in the New Hampshire presidential primary and general elections.
