Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church with Pastor Mike Martin and Rev. Gary Gumfory officiating. Burial will be in Gruver Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Mrs. Hart was born March 11, 1928, on the family farm in Hansford County northeast of Gruver. She graduated from Gruver High School. She attended Texas Woman's University in Denton and West Texas State College in Canyon. She was a longtime resident of Hansford County and was involved in farming and ranching. She was a partner in Palo Duro Grain Company. She was involved in the Republican Party and was a state committeewoman. She served as a Gruver City Councilwoman. She was instrumental in obtaining the funds for the Gruver Municipal Swimming Pool. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Hart Tidwell. Survivors include a son, Jerry Hart of Morse; a daughter, Ginger Pittman of Spearman; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Herrera was born March 21, 1946, in Donna. He married Esperanza Gallegos in 1970. Evert Craig, 90, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Morrison Memorial Chapel in Dumas with Pastor Donnie Callaway, pastor of James Church of God in Texhoma, Okla., officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Craig was born March 10, 1911, in Longmont, Colo. She was a Dumas and Moore County resident from 1946 to 1993, then moved to Stratford. She married Forrest Donald Craig on May 29, 1933, in Longmont. She was a member of First Christian Church in Dumas. She was a grocery clerk at Cut Rate Grocery for 13 years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987. Survivors include a sister, Wilma Steel of Grand Junction, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Irene Craig of Texhoma, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 19, 2001 John Thomas Broadaway Panhandle - John Thomas Broadaway, 75, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony Powell, Dr. Jim Howard and Dr. Bob Parker officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Home. Mr. Broadaway, son of pioneer parents John and Juanita Wyatt Broadaway, was raised in Carson County. Upon graduation from Panhandle High School he joined the U.S. Naval Air Corps. On Sept. 20, 1946, he was commissioned an ensign and received his Navy Wings. His squadron flying F4U (Corsairs) was assigned to the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He married Dorothy Evans on Sept. 25, 1946, at Panhandle. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he returned to West Texas State and graduated in 1951. He was a photographer for the Amarillo Globe-News, instructional supervisor in the Snark Missile Program at Amarillo Air Force Base, and a farmer and rancher in Carson County. In 1970, Mr. Broadaway directed the U.S. Census in all of North Texas from El Paso to Denton. He served on the Panhandle school board and was a charter member, deacon and teacher in Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Broadaway held various offices within the West Texas State Alumni Association and was a member of the Phoenix Club. He was an avid planner and builder in his home, his community and his church. Traveling with his friends and family, especially the annual grandkid trip, was the joy of his life. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Purvines of Panhandle and Diane Padgett of Houston; a son, John B. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. Mrs. Short lived in Amarillo most of her life. She was employed for many years as a housekeeper at nursing homes in the area. She was a Baptist. Mrs. Short was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Manning; and two daughters, Alta Jo Rhea and Wanda Webb. Mrs. Thurmond was born in Slaton and had been an Amarillo resident most of her life. She was a registered nurse. She married Onie Thurmond in 1953, at Amarillo. He preceded her in death in 1994. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 19, 2001 Manion Jones ALBUQUERQUE N.M. - Manion Jones, 81, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001. Graveside services were at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, on Friday, Aug. 31, 2001. Arrangements were by the Sunrise Society of New Mexico. Mr. Jones grew up in Amarillo. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1938 and attended Amarillo College. He served with the Seabees, the construction unit of the Navy, for two years on Guadalcanal, in World War II. Following the war he moved to Gallup. He worked in newspaper circulation in Amarillo, Texas, Albuquerque and Gallup. Prior to retirement he worked as a tour guide for Amtrak on the route from Gallup to Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manson and Eunice Jones; two sisters, Margaret Coble and Mildred Jones; and a brother, Boyd Jones. Survivors include a sister, Kathryn Jones of Albuquerque; four nieces, Gwendolyn Sutton of Amarillo, Jan Sharon Coble of Cleveland,Ohio, Ramon Davis of Fountain, Colo., Cheryl Gadish of Tempe, Ariz.; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Mrs. Adame married Raul Adame Oct. 15, 1983, in Clovis. She was a laboratory technician at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Rogelio Adame and Eddie Adame, both of the home; her parents, Francisco and Manuela Acosta of Clovis; five brothers, Gene Acosta and Francisco Acosta, both of Clovis, Deigo Acosta and Catarino Acosta, both of Amarillo, Texas, Dimas Acosta of Muleshoe, Texas; and two sisters, Iduina Badillo of Amarillo and Dora Gonzalez of Muleshoe. Mrs. Forester married Richard F. Forester Dec. 23, 1939, in Sherman, Texas. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a son, Roger Forester of Clovis; a brother, O.M. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 19, 2001 Oklahoma Velma Shubert TEXHOMA, Okla. - Velma Shubert, 93, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in James Church of God with the Rev. Donnie Callaway officiating. Arrangements are by Dawson-Welch Funeral Home. Mrs. Shubert was born Jan. 29, 1908, at Eva, Okla., in Texas County to Daniel V. and Nellie Norris. She married F.C. Shubert on July 28, 1929. They made their home in rural Texhoma until 1983 when they moved to Texhoma. To this union, two daughters were born, Charlene and Nadine. Velma was active in the work of the Lord at James Church. She started playing the piano and organ at the age of 13. She continued to play until 1995 when her health prevented her from playing. She was a member of the Busy Matrons Club, the Iris Garden Club and the Lucky 13 Quilting Club. She was a great artist and taught art for several years. Mrs. Shubert was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister; and brother. Survivors include her husband, F.C.; two daughters, Charlene Cornelson of Texhoma and Nadine Huddleston and her husband, Roy Joe of rural Texhoma; seven grandchildren, Gary Cornelson and wife, Debra of Liberal Kan., Cathy Huddleston Evans of Logo Vista, Texas, Rex Cornelson and wife, Lori of Norman, Donnie Huddleston and wife, Valerie of rural Texhoma, Bruce Cornelson and wife, Terri of Texhoma, Shirley Clark and husband, Sonny of Amarillo, and Sandi Dunston and husband, David of Amarillo; and 21 great-grandchildren.
