Farmer FRITCH - Fred S. "Ted" Farmer, 85, died Monday, June 18, 2001, in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Garden of Devotion at Westlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Barry Loving, pastor of First Christian Church of Pampa, officiating. Arrangements are by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch. Mr. Farmer was born in Forestburg. He moved to Wheeler County in 1927 with his family. He had been a Fritch resident since 1963. Mr. Farmer retired as an operator for Phillips Petroleum Co. in 1983. He was a bombardier in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Charleen Kesler on Nov. 4, 1944, in Shamrock. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Johnson, in 1988. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Fredda Smith of Fritch and Mayda King and her husband, Terry, of Pampa; two brothers, P.L. "Percy" Farmer of Wheeler and Clifford Farmer of Fritch; two sisters, Lois Johnson of Borger and Oneta Murray of Hemphill; five grandchildren, D'awn and Brian Swartwood, Shaunda and Dick Patterson, Greg and Shannon King, Craig and Monti Smith and Chalan and Robert Galloway; and seven great-grandchildren, Morgan and Ryan King, Dathan Galloway, Madelyn Gunn, Raedon Smith, Shey Patterson and Cody Swartwood. Rosary was at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Bartley-Silva Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Alberto Carrion, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park. Xxavier was a student at Coronado Junior High School. He enjoyed his friends and computers. Survivors include his parents, Pablo and Sylvia Cabrera of Plainview; two brothers, Abel Ramirez and Joseph Paul Cabrera, both of Plainview; a sister, Sopia Ramirez of Plainview; and his grandmother, Martha Lopez of Plainview. Amarillo Globe-News, June 20, 2001 Berkeley Neece CLARENDON - Berkeley Gentry Ryan Neece, 84, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Ned Creswell, retired Episcopal minister of Amarillo, and the Rev. Jim Aveni, deacon of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, officiating. Cremation will take place today at Memorial Park Crematory in Amarillo. Private burial will be Friday in Citizens Cemetery of Clarendon. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Neece was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Clarendon and was a lifetime resident. She married Lawrence Chester Neece on April 4, 1943, at Clarendon. He preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1994. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Clarendon. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Emily Neece Wilson and husband, Rev. Charles A. Wilson, of Amarillo; a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence G. "Larry" Neece, and wife, Barbara, of San Diego, Calif.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The former Doris Gregory married W.J. Pleming on Oct. 23, 1949. She was a homemaker and she upholstered furniture. Survivors include her husband; three sons, John Pleming and Jim Pleming, both of Amarillo and Jeff Pleming of Childress; a sister, Fern Anderson of Lubbock; and 10 grandchildren. Entombment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Romines married Melvin Romines on April 6, 1986, in Amarillo. She was born in Glens Falls, N.Y. She owned and operated Susie's Donut Shop on River Road. She was known to Pleasant Valley residents as "the Donut Lady." She retired approximately 20 years ago. Survivors include her husband; a son, Larry Kelly of Amarillo; six daughters, Judy Gordon, Susan Smith and Kathy Wheeler, all of Amarillo, Leslie Selby of Las Vegas, JoAnn Scruggs of Springtown and Cindy Wurst of Arlington, Wash.; 24 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. Osage St. Mr. Bennett was born in Lubbock. He married Juanita Davis in 1969 at Claude. He owned B & B Overhead Door Co., and retired in 1980. Amarillo Globe-News, June 20, 2001 Floyd C. Crofford Floyd C. Crofford, 98, of Amarillo, died Sunday, June 17, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in South Georgia Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Miller, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. today in Rowe Cemetery in Hedley by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Crofford was born July 17, 1902, in Rule. His family later moved to Kelton. He married Gracie Lorene Williams at Claude on Nov. 27, 1923. They were married 70 years before her death in 1993. Mr. Crofford was a farmer, having farmed at Hedley, Clarendon, Hereford, Colorado and Bushland before retiring in 1976. He was deacon emeritus at South Georgia Baptist Church, where he had served for 29 years. Mr. Crofford was a member of the church choir and the sunshiners; he loved singing and playing his fiddle. He also served on the board of trustees for Martin School located near Clarendon in the 1940s. Mr. Crofford was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gracie; by a daughter, Bobbie Ladema; and by his mother, father, three sisters and two brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Margie Crofford Phillips and her husband, Billy M. Phillips, of Amarillo; a son, F.G. Crofford and his wife, Bonnie, of Amarillo; three granddaughters and a grandson; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and many wonderful friends. The family suggests memorials be to United We Build Fund at South Georgia Baptist Church, 5209 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, TX 79110. Arrangements are by Rix Funeral Directors. Mrs. Holmes was born in Meno, Okla., on May 24, 1914. She grew up in White Deer, where she graduated from high school in 1932. She was the widow of C.A. "Bill" Holmes, who died June 28, 2000. Survivors include her twin sister, Opal Franklin of Riverton, Wyo.; a grandson, Ricky Rice of Tulia; two granddaughters, Kim Payne of Lubbock and Camille Owens of Dallas; and four great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, June 20, 2001 Jerry O'Neal Reid BASTROP - Jerry O'Neal Reid, 60, died Thursday, June 14, 2001. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Monday in Texico Cemetery of Texico, N.M., with Paul Crooks, elder, officiating. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis, N.M. Mr. Reid was raised in Texico, graduating from Texico schools. He was a carpenter and had worked in construction in the Bastrop area. Survivors include his wife, Linda Lee Reid; a daughter, Cara Diane Hollis of Hobbs, N.M.; his mother, Ruth Reid of Texico; three brothers, W.O. Reid of Logan, N.M., Don Reid of Clovis and Ken Reid of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Margie Crooks of Texico and Sue Webster of Union, Ky.; and a grandchild. The family suggests memorials be to Baptist Children's Home in Portales, N.M. Amarillo Globe-News, June 20, 2001 Jack L. Heath DURANGO, Colo. - Jack L. Heath, 69, died Thursday, May 24, 2001. Memorial services will be Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, in Durango. Arrangements are by Hood Mortuary of Durango. Mr. Heath was born June 3, 1931, in Clarendon, Texas, the son of Dewey T. and Gladys L. Heath. He grew up in Amarillo. He would have celebrated his 70th birthday on June 3. Jack was well known as a ski instructor in Aspen and was a member of RMSIA and PSIA since 1957. He also taught skiing at Purgatory ski area in Durango. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved his Aussie Shepherd dog, Hunk, cowboy boots and blue jeans and his Stetson hat. He and his partner, Bill Dashner, moved to Durango in the early 1970s to build their ranch home near the airport. Jack also flew a Cessna 185 around Colorado and the Southwest, including frequent trips to Tucson, Ariz., where they had a second home. Jack built several kayaks and dreamed about starting a business called Kayak Jacks. He also loved growing plants. He was building a greenhouse in order to enjoy his horticultural interest. During construction of this project, he fell off the roof to his death on May 24, 2001. Jack was considered by his many friends as a very compassionate man. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Tom Heath, who died in an airplane crash in the 1960s. Survivors include his uncle, Wallace Heath of Amarillo; and his aunt, Bobbye Jo Heath of Lubbock, Texas. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers be to a favorite charity. Amarillo Globe-News, June 20, 2001 Oma Lee Hall MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - Oma Lee Reed Hall, 91, died Monday, June 18, 2001. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40, of Amarillo. Oma Lee Reed Hall died June 18, 2001, at home in Midlothian. She was born in Wilbarger County, Texas, on May 11, 1910. She had lived in the Panhandle area until 1992, when she moved to Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; and by a son, Billy. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Richard and Nancy of Midlothian and Carroll and Barbara of Las Cruces, N.M.; two sisters, Thelma Platt of Richardson and Louise Swanberg of Pomona, Calif; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. Amarillo Globe-News, June 20, 2001 Dennis Glenn Smith EL PASO - Dennis Glenn Smith, 56, formerly of Clovis, N.M., died Saturday, June 16, 2001. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel in Clovis. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories at Clovis. Mr. Smith had worked for 37 years as a fire protection engineer, designing and installing sprinkler systems. He married Carol Thompson on March 19, 1966, in Albuquerque, N.M. Survivors include his wife; his parents, Jeff and Geraldine Smith of Clovis; a brother, Larry Smith of Albuquerque; and a sister, Dr. Cindy Smith of Clovis.
