She received her master's in biology education from Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Okla. She married Don J. Holbrook on April 16, 1955, at Wheeler. He was a member and president from 1978-1979 of Water Conditioning Association International and recipient of the Founders Award in 1980. He was past president of Southwest Culligan Water Conditioning Association. He was a member of Exchange Club, Executive Club, Amarillo Town Club Bridge Club and an Amarillo Police Department handicap parking volunteer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne C. Hatchett, a longtime physician of radiology and Amarillo philanthropist, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001. He was 83. Services are pending with Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Dr. Hatchett was born Nov. 14, 1918, in Dalhart. He graduated in the top of his class from Amarillo High School. He then attended the University of Texas, where he was in the top 1 percent of his class and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, he attended the University of Texas Medical School at Galveston. He received postgraduate training at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and the University of Nebraska Medical School in Omaha, Neb. While in Nebraska, he researched radioactive medicine at the University Hospital. Dr. Hatchett served in the Army Medical Corps as a captain. He moved to the Texas Panhandle in 1949 and maintained his private practice of radiology. He had been involved with the medical community since he arrived in Amarillo. Dr. Hatchett served as medical director of radiology at Northwest Texas Hospital for many years. He had served on the staff of St. Anthony's Hospital, and he was a consultant to the Department of Veterans Affairs Health System Hospital. He belonged to numerous medical societies, including the Radiological Society of N.A., the Texas Radiological Society, and the Rocky Mountain Radiological Society. He was an instructor in radiology and oncology at the University of Nebraska and was a postgraduate instructor in radiology at the University of Texas. He served on many medical boards, including the American Board of Radiology and the Community Council. He was named to the Statewide Health Coordinating Council, the State Medical Facilities Plan Review Committee, the Statewide Health Coordinating Council and was appointed to the Potter County Board of Child Welfare. Dr. Hatchett received the Estelle Marsh Humanitarian Award in September 2001 from Planned Parenthood for his significant donations that enabled the organization to purchase the building at 1501 S. Taylor St. He was a founder and co-leader of the first Great Books group organized in Amarillo nearly 50 years ago. The 1999 annual report of the Great Books Foundation devoted a page to the recognition of Dr. Hatchett and the Amarillo Great Books discussion group. Dr. Hatchett also was an active member and supporter of the performing and visual arts in Amarillo and the area.
