She was a homemaker and member of St. Laurence Cathedral. She belonged to St. Laurence Cathedral altar society for many years, Legion of Mary and attended Bible study classes at the church. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a minister and pastored Adams Street Baptist Church for several years. He was a carpenter and a member of Souls Harbour Church. Survivors include a daughter, Imogene Johnson of Amarillo; a sister, Ida E. Reid of Denver; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Mr. Grimes was born Aug. 5, 1917, at Achille. He married Pauline Bolinger in Durant on Sept. 18, 1939. They were married for more than 62 years. He graduated from Achille High School in 1935 and received a bachelor's degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and a master's degree from Oklahoma State University. He was a longtime resident of Borger. He was a principal and teacher in Borger schools for 30 years, retiring in 1977. He and his wife, Pauline, moved to Amarillo in June 1999. He served in the Navy during World War II. Most of his service was aboard the USS Gunston Hall in the South Pacific. He was awarded the American Theatre, Asiatic Pacific and Philippine Liberation ribbons with seven bronze service stars and victory and good conduct medals. He was honorably discharged after the war. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mae Grimes; his father, Lonnie Grimes; two brothers, Owen and Harold; and a sister, Mildred. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. Gary Grimes and wife, Nancy, of Wichita Falls; a brother, Lonnie Grimes and wife, Nancy, of Amarillo; two sisters, Medrith Grimes and Joyce Ladd and husband, C.B., all of Bennington, Okla.; a grandson, Gant Grimes and wife, Courtney, of Arlington; and a granddaughter, Reagan Grimes of Sacramento, Calif. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Cantrell was born June 27, 1903, to pioneer parents, Judge and Mrs. C.G. Landis. She was a lifelong resident of Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1921. She received her bachelor's degree and her master's degree in education from West Texas State University in Canyon. She did some graduate study at the University of Arkansas. She taught in elementary grades in Amarillo public schools, Liberal, Kan., and Lincoln, Ark. She was a lifelong member of First Christian Church, having attended church in all four of the church's buildings. She married Homer Lee Cantrell in 1926 at Amarillo. She was an active member of Loyalty Sunday school class and C.F.W. She was a member of local, state and national Retired Teachers Association and a charter member of Amarillo Senior Citizens Association. She was a former member of B.P.W., A.A.U.W., Beta Sigma Phi and Alpha Delta Kappa sororities. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1965; a granddaughter; her parents; five sisters; and four brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Jenkins and husband, James, of Tucumcari, N.M.; a granddaughter, Diane Grap of Rocky Mount, N.C.; a grandson, Jerry Jenkins of Anchorage, Alaska; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Byrd was born Aug. 12, 1912, in Myra, Cook County, and was a resident of Claude most of her life. She had lived on the family farm south of Claude since 1935. She married Martin Cleon Byrd Sr. on Oct. 26, 1935, in Claude. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church where she was involved with United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by a son, Martin Cleon Byrd II, in 1987; and two brothers, Bill Aldridge and Doug Aldridge. Mr. Frye was born Oct. 1, 1946, in Wetumka, Okla., and was a resident of Fort Worth before moving to Clarendon three years ago. He married Linda Faye Naylor on Aug. 24, 1968, in Dumas. He was employed at Pantex as a budget analyst and accountant. He was a first lieutenant in the Army, having served on the eastern front during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Clarendon VFW Post No. 7782 and the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he worked with the RA Group and Clarendon College Ministry. Mrs. Parrish attended school in her hometown of Amarillo, Texas, until 1960 when she moved to Borger, Texas. She continued her schooling in Borger and went on to attend two years of school at Draughon's Business College in Amarillo. She moved to Clovis in 1989, and worked as a dispatcher for the Clovis Police Department. Later she transferred to the Portales Police Department. Since January 1997 she was the court clerk for the magistrate judge in Portales. She married Dale Parrish on Aug. 27, 1992, in Elko, Nev. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Arrangements are by The Gabriels Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Irwin was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico Territory, May 13, 1910, to John F. and Mattie V. Dunaway. The family moved to Canyon where she grew up. She lived in Amarillo and Clarendon before moving to Georgetown in 1997. Affectionately known as Memo to her grandchildren, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and fishing, skills she taught to her children and grandchildren. She was a beautiful lady with lovely blue eyes. She will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her greatest gift was the love she instilled in everyone in her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; a brother; and six sisters. Mr. Roberts was born April 19, 1930, in Childress and attended high school in Quanah. He married the former Dortha Wenham in Amarillo on April, 1, 1948. He was a manager for AmeriPride for 30 years. He served as treasurer for Monterey AmBucks for eight years and belonged to Linen Association in both Texas and California. He had been a resident of Lubbock since moving from Amarillo in 1979. He was a member and usher at Southcrest Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by five brothers; and a sister. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Karen Louise Reynolds of North Richland Hills; a son, Cary Wayne Roberts of North Richland Hills; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
