Mrs. Smith was born in Levelland and had been an Amarillo resident most of her life. She was a member of Plum Creek Fellowship, a Church of Christ Family. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth R. Mr. Moore was born in Muleshoe and attended schools in Amarillo. He graduated from Amarillo High School and West Texas State University. He had lived in Arlington for a number of years. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Kemp was born March 4, 1919, in Frederick, Okla. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 41 years. He retired in 1981 as a supervisor in communications. He was a member of Southwest Church of Christ and a member of the Telephone Pioneers Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Naoma, in 1994. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Terry Lowe of St. Stephen United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Warren died early Thursday morning after a brief illness. She made her home for the last four years at Potter House Assisted Living. She moved to Amarillo on April 28, 1919, from Marion, Ala., after the death of her mother in the 1918 flu epidemic. Her father, E.M. Blackburn Sr., had just purchased the Eakle Undertaking Co. from Clarence Eakle. It was the first undertaking company in Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School, attended nurses's training at the original Northwest Texas Hospital, and later was the first office nurse when Dr. W.H. Wheir started his practice. She married Hugh Lackey of Perryton. She later returned to Amarillo to make a home for her father. She married Fred Warren on March 6, 1948. She was an avid bridge player and a charter member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother and friend and an inspiration to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, on Sept. 16, 1978. Survivors include three daughters, Betsy Northrup and Kay Sheffield, both of Amarillo, and Nan Sullivan of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Bill Lackey and wife, Lee, of Amarillo; a brother E.M. Blackburn Jr.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice, 1000 S. He retired from the Army in 1971 after 21 years of service. He served in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. After retiring from the military, he worked at Panhandle Fruit and Ben E. Keith for several years. He then retired as a security guard after 15 years at Bank One. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlene Holman and LaVerne Hise, both of Amarillo; and a son, Maurice Holman in 1957. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; four daughters, Karen Hicks, Konni Sims, Nichole Krallman and Faye Williams, all of Amarillo; one son, Don Holman of Amarillo; two sisters, Doris Taliaferro and Jonnie Lee Hall, both of Amarillo; three brothers, T.W. The family requests memorials be to Hereford Senior Citizens. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 21, 2001 Jack Childress MEMPHIS - Jack Childress, 74, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, in Arlington. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Posey, retired minister of First Christian Church, officiating. Mr. Childress' body was willed to Southwestern Medical Research Center in Dallas and his ashes have been returned to his family for burial. Mr. Childress was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Memphis to Eldrue and Myrl Childress. He was a member of the 1945 graduating class of Memphis High School. He was a World War II veteran and later attended Texas Tech University. He lived in Amarillo and Lubbock, working for U.S. Ceramic Tile for many years. He moved to the Metroplex in 1969 and has since been associated with Two-J Corp. He was very active in First Christian Church in Arlington, serving as a deacon and in various classes and departments. He was a very devoted father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Parker Childress; and his parents, Eldrue and Myrl Childress. Survivors include his wife, Gladdine Sickles Childress; two sons, Charlie Glen Childress and his wife, Nancy, of Austin, and John "Scooter" Childress of Arlington; two daughters, Rebecca Childress Subedur and her husband, Jahanur, of Dallas, and Anna Sickles Parrish and her husband, Charles, of Granbury; a brother, Darrell Childress and his wife, Peggy; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ted and Laverne Swift of Richardson; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Private services were in Tucson with the Rev. Sarah Tomassontt officiating. A memorial service will be later. Mr. Latham was born April 13, 1918, in White Deer, Texas. He graduated from Amarillo College and the University of Colorado with an electrical engineering degree. His career included work in the federal Soil Conservation Service and being an Atomic Energy Commission efficiency expert for Procter and Gamble. He then farmed and ranched the LL Ranch in Hereford, Texas. He was a life Scout and served as a Scoutmaster for Troop 5 in Amarillo for many years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Llano Estacada Chapter. He served in many capacities and as a lay minister over a 40-year period at San Jacinto United Methodist Church in Amarillo. He was an avid sports fan and participant in golf and tennis in Texas and Arizona. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Francine; a son, Beau Latham of Amarillo; a daughter-in-law, Roberta M. Latham of Tucson; mother-in-law, Ella Purdom of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, James Latham Sr. of Dallas; Deborah Latham Gifford of Amarillo; Michael Latham of Arlington, Texas; Christopher Beau Latham of Flagstaff; Angel Crisp of Richardson, Texas; Charlotte Latham of Tucson; and Jason Latham of Peterborough, N.H.; six great-grandchildren, James Leo Latham of Dallas; Jeremy Gifford and Brendon Beau Latham, both of Amarillo; Erowynn Maul-Latham of Flagstaff; Katiana Latham and Jerrika Latham, both of Peterborough, N.M.
